CORALVILLE, Iowa —Jeb Bush called Tuesday for a “leader with a servant’s heart.”
“We need a nominee who knows it’s not all about him,” the one-time GOP front-runner said.
But, increasingly, establishment Republicans worry that Bush’s campaign is little more than an ego trip. With the former Florida governor now sitting stagnant in the middle of the pack and his super PAC ratcheting up its attacks on Marco Rubio, a growing number of Republican centrists are coming to view Bush’s campaign as a distraction — one that could hurt their ability to keep the nomination away from Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.
On Monday, the Right to Rise PAC hit the early state airwaves with an ad skewering Bush’s former protégé for flipping on immigration—an issue on which he and Bush actually agree. And on Tuesday, the group unleashed a second ad that portrayed Rubio as a flip-flopper and mocked his heeled boots.
These attacks aim to clear some space for Bush in the establishment lane of this sprawling primary fight with the Iowa caucuses just weeks away. But to those who no longer believe Bush can win the Republican nomination, his super PAC, with tens of millions of dollars left to spend, looks more like a wrecking ball meant to lay waste to the one contender many Bush donors see as the last remaining mainstream alternative to Trump or Cruz.
“This is something Jeb Bush has to decide. Does he want his legacy to be that he elected Donald Trump or Ted Cruz?” said Stuart Stevens, the GOP strategist who ran Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign. “He can’t control that super PAC but he ought to call on the super PAC to stop and stop attacking people with whom he mostly agrees.”
Bush’s White House bid hit rock bottom in late October, after his own botched attack on Rubio during an October debate underlined the perilousness for Bush in attacking his one-time ally. Now, many establishment Republicans, including a growing number of Bush supporters, are frustrated that his super PAC is intent on doing the same thing.

I've loved how he's handled all of this. No need to attack a candidate when she's doing it to herself for you.

Why is Jeb Bush still in this race? He should take his guacamole recipe and start a mexican restaurant instead.
Also, I hope dirt on Chelsea Clinton starts popping up. If you're going to send your daughter to do your campaign work she's fair game.

Would we have had that 100% insanity video of his pocket turtles if he wasn't in the race? He is essential to this election cycle. I am still floored by that video.

Barack Obama promised an overhaul of coal mining on public lands on Tuesday, delivering a major blow to the ailing industry.
In his final State of the Union address, the US president said he would push for changes to the leasing of public lands for oil, coal and gas leases at cut-rate prices, saying: “Rather than subsidize the past, we should invest in the future.”
The move follows a listening tour last year by Sally Jewell, the interior secretary, during which she explored leasing programmes on public lands and the collapse of the coal mining industry due to low prices.
Environmental groups had planned major campaigns around the government’s leasing programme for 2016, arguing that continued fossil fuel extraction on public lands was undermining Obama’s efforts to fight climate change.
After insisting in his first term on an “all of the above” energy policy that promoted expansion of oil, gas and coal, Obama now appears to agree with scientists who say catastrophic climate change cannot be avoided without strict limits on fossil fuel extraction.
“I’m going to push to change the way we manage our oil and coal resources, so that they better reflect the costs they impose on taxpayers and our planet,” he said in the speech.
The overhaul comes amid collapsing global prices for coal – which have had a big impact on the government’s lease programme. The government had to put off lease sales involving some 2bn tonnes of coal over the last year because companies were unwilling to buy.
The White House said in an email it would provide further details in the coming weeks, adding: “The President underscored the need to accelerate our transition to low-carbon economy by changing how we manage our oil and coal resources.”
Campaign groups have long accused Obama of having a blind spot when it came to the mining of fossil fuels on public lands.

In one sense it doesn't matter since most Republican primaries award delegates proportionally, and arguably any delegates awarded to an establishment candidate will likely end up in the pocket of whichever establishment candidate emerges at the top of the heap. In that sense, Jeb Bush has every reason to drag this out.
But that's also an incentive for all the establishment candidates to claw their way on top of the heap. Spending money on attack ads against each other is good for the individual candidate but bad for the establishment since some of the voters influenced by the ads will end up in Trump or Cruz' camp.
Plus some primaries aren't proportional, or are only partially proportional, so there's still some damage being done there.

To clearly the best thing to do is to dig up dirt on her rather than address if her statements were correct or not. Because there is nothing better than seeing the daughter of a candidate humiliated when they find something out about her. Forget talking about health care, this is all about self gratification and seeing if we can dig up dirty things about Chelsea Clinton.
Sanders is a big boy, he can handle a couple jabs from Clinton’s daughter. I read the quote and that being an "attack" is stretching the meaning on the word. He doesn’t need the help of the public, mouth watering for sorted details about Chelsea Clinton.

Or maybe you shouldn't wish for private dirt to be what people target any political figure on, except when pointing out extreme hypocrisy?

All the obvious flaws aside, I really don't get this american obsession with "flip flopping". When has "changing your mind" become a bad thing to do? Are americans always right at everything the first time they talk about it? If new information arises and it turns out that your previous position was bad, should you try to change the evidence as opposed to your own stance? Should you try to force a square peg through a round shape, just because you thought it might fit when you were really drunk?

It is to show someone does not actually believe what they say and just say whatever people want to hear. Which is ironic since practically every politician does it, Europe is no different in that tbh.

The facts don't need to change for the person to just gain more knowledge or see the issue from another side. We punish our politicians for becoming better informed.

I know that i changed my positions on an awful lot of topics just over the last ten years alone, sometimes due to me learning more things, sometimes due to me realizing that i was actually retarded before. I don't see why this shouldn't ever happen to politicians.
