First of all, I had originally hoped that the my post regarding QuanticDestiny's racial slur would stay open until Quantic would appropriately punish him for his unwarranted behaviour. Since the post is closed, I guess this is as good place as any to reflect on my thoughts over this incident.
I am surprised that most of posts were simply asking me to "grow a pair" or "Destiny is Destiny and it's nothing new". In the replay of the game in question, he recognized my ID as Korean, saw me typing Korean GGs to him, and proceeded to call me "gook". Obviously what he wrote was racially motivated, knowing that I am Korean.
As a community, are we really going to condone a public figure (whether he likes it or not, or whether I want to admit it or not, this is true), such as Destiny, who draws in thousands of viewers, to openly racially insult other people in streams in public? As public entertainer, he must be held to a socially acceptable standards and responsibilities. For him to think that he can say shit like that freely to others is preposterous.
Also for those of you who keep PMing me about this replay, http://www.sctemple.com/replay/165934/#Chat Do some fucking research before assuming things to be true. That account in gold league currently, whereas my account is high masters at the moment. Unless you want to believe a gold leaguer has similar MMR and can be matched vs Destiny in ladder. I find it funny that Destiny is providing this replay to support his argument in his reddit post. Like I said on my original post, I have raged in ladder games just like everyone else, and since I used to stream, those people who have watched me play would know. But to verbally attack people with racial slurs is something that I have never done and I will never do. There are boundaries in a society we live in and this is totally out of line.
I will be watching to see if Quantic chooses to let this incident slide, or come out with an appropriate response to discipline QuanticDestiny.

You can't just let it die can you? Must he really be punished by his team. Come on.

You need to get over yourself.

Just cause you use complete sentences and try to use flawed logic to justify your case doesn't mean you're right, you're just as closed minded as the person you're persecuting. Whatever happens will happen whether you whine about it publicly or not. Seriously you need to just get over it and go back to laddering.
|
Yes, he must be punished. Why should Destiny be treated any other way than an employee of a corporation?
If you call a co-worker something derogatory then you can bet you would face consequences. Destiny has been overlooked because "it's Destiny". And getting on Wardens nuts because he's the first to call out on it is ridiculous, why should he get a different response when you were all lighting the pitchforks when it was Orb?

Really? Are you this desperate for attention?

And it won't change if he doesn't whine about that.

I think he had a right to respond to the allegations Destiny leveled against him for using racially offensive language.

Really? lol are you that offended that he called you a gook or do you just want to see somebody you dislike "get in trouble"? Just get over it.

im not suggesting anything, so don't blame me:
nothing will ever happen unless you hit the pocketbook. Destiny (or any other player for that matter) could probably get away with saying anything at all as long as he brought in the money. if you want change, then you have to hit the money-flow. then it doesn't matter if he actually didn't say anything, he'll most likely be gone.
its sad, its terrible, it shouldn't work that way: but it does. cash is and will always be king in these situations. threads like this are only going to draw in the trolls. not that i necessarily think that anything should be done, i actually don't care either way. but just saying: you want results? hit the checkbook.

This blog is an extreme case of bitching. I suggest you man the fuck up and let Quantic decide.

The reason he is a public figure is because he pulls in thousands of viewers. The reason he pulls in thousands of viewers is because his personality (including his use of language). So, yes, the community has decided on this one and they are willing to accept him. If they weren't willing to accept him then he wouldn't have views and wouldn't be prominent. Sorry.

Cant we just stop talking about this kind of drama? This isnt reddit after all. And this kind of shit will always happen, if its not destiny its another "famous" player...

I'm sure Quantic was(is) fully aware of destiny's past and his current actions.
Is this thread really necessary? The decision is theirs, we've already had a 140 page thread on the matter....

Well, after starting a thread making allegations that led to reverberations throughout several SC2 communities; I would expect him to have something to say about the outcome. Not that I necessarily agree on his position, but I think Warden has a right to respond to both Destiny's allegations as well as the criticism from Destiny's fans. Doesn't mean you all have to agree with him, but I think you should at least listen to what he has to say. Part of the reason yesterday's shit storm got as big as it did was because no one was willing to listen to anyone else.

Really? From my perspective, about 50% of the replies in that thread were on the opposite end of the argument. Quite a few people are clearly not okay with Destiny's conduct. Obviously the TL staff wasn't okay with his conduct either; so I'm not sure how you can imply that this was some type of open and shut case.

Let's be fair, Warden's thread isn't what caused the shit storm. It was a catalyst that unleased a number of issues that had been quietly simmering under the surface. The anger against Destiny wasn't just about the b.net chat; it was about the content of Destiny's stream, his attitude, and his conduct and whether or not someone such as that should be featured. Conversely, I think the reaction of many Destiny fans was probably stemming from some of the ongoing criticisms of Destiny, so again the thread was a catalyst there as well.

You are the most wise Toast^^^ I have ever met <3

I condone the market choosing the results.
If you want to effect a change in this or any other situation regarding a player on a major team, don't waste your time with Quantic. Find the people who supply Quantic with its funding and inform them that regardless of the quality of their product, you and anyone you can convince to join you will no longer be purchasing them.
Will your message matter? No, not unless it is joined with many, many more. But occasionally enough people will take the initiative to make something happen. Remember the Limbaugh/Fluke controversy a couple months ago (probably American only concern)? While a bunch of idiots were calling for the FCC to pull his license, a few motivated groups managed to level the power of the wallet and managed to pull him from over 50 radio stations. Believe me, if enough people agree with you, Quantic will get the message.
Personally, I hope you fail in your efforts. Destiny is a perfect reminder of how utterly insignificant the whole SC2 experience should be in the grand scheme of the real world. In the face of so many people foregoing education and gainful employment to "go pro", I like having that scraggly little guy as the icon for the utmost limit of possibility for the majority of folks who pursue that life. And the ability to shoot one's mouth off saying such things IS the exact dividing line between his activities and relevance in life.

Lol, for fucks sake kid just let it go, the massive shitstorm thread was closed and he was banned for some time, why wouldn't this one be closed?

He lost featured status. He was banned. Be happy. Let it die.

Yup. Not sure why you are so intent on trying to get destiny in trouble warden, you must really hate him to try so hard xD.

I guess it was only a matter of time, after the whole orb fiasco, until something like this took place again. This kind of drama is disgusting. Your previous thread was locked for a reason, if I were you I'd have taken the hint and not gone on to embarass myself further.

Still, TL took a stand. Hopefully he learns his lesson, maybe not. But one can hope

The OP is the "victim". If he is offended or disgusted, he is fully right to be able to voice his concerns since.. he is in fact, involved. Some people don't get offended as easily, some more touchy but that doesn't make what Destiny do correct. If this were some random viewer getting offended.. then don't watch his stream but this is the victim himself.
Let him do as he please just as Destiny did and we will see what goes on from here.

Butthurt: (n) An inappropriately strong negative emotional response from a perceived personal insult. Characterized by strong feelings of shame. Frequently associated with a cessation of communication and overt hostility towards the "aggressor."
|
Wait I obviously missed the controversy and apparently the thread got closed. Am I correct in guessing that Destiny made fun of someone over the internet - using racist terms - and said person got butthurt and opened a thread on TL. This lead to Destiny getting banned and unfeatured because someone is a little bitch.

I think if you really want something to happen, you should contact Quantic management directly instead of trying to gather attention from the community

Your point is well made, except I don't understand the inclusion of the opinion that the SC2 experience is "utterly irrelevant". What is this "real world" you're talking about? How is it objectively distinct from "the SC2 experience"? Does that mean when Destiny acts like an asshole, it's not real? I'm not trying to suggest that everyone can grow up and have competitive gaming careers, nor that having a stream viewership means you're running for president. But to cast aside how many man-hours of attention put into this community and its goings-on as so much nothing... that doesn't even make sense.
It especially doesn't make sense when you consider the thousands of people apparently condoning deplorable behavior. Why is Warden taking shit from them? Shouldn't they... grow a pair?
You guys are pretty sensitive for espousing such an indifference to negativity.
If, on the other hand, there is a real argument to be had about public racism and/or the public use of racist language, it requires a much higher level of knowledge and discussion than what I've been seeing. Either way the Warden haters are a complete let-down, on all fronts.

I'm saying even if 50% of the people disagree and don't want him around it doesn't really matter. There are still going to be thousands of people who watch him whenever he turns on his computer and they are still going to talk about him using the same modes of communication that the rest of the community does. Because of this he is still going to be a prominent member of the community.

Im really curious as to what age you are? Where you really this butthurt from a ladder game that you had to go and seek attention like this? Lets be honest here, you are a mediocre mid-masters player who dosen't really have much going for him, you see an opportunity to thrust yourself into the limelight because a moderately famous starcraft ( who obviously isn't racist) called you a gook.
I just can't believe that you got offended over this shit.

For the purposes of TL, I think this discussion is over. If you're worried about people calling you names and saying things like "grow a pair"... well, welcome to the world of being a public figure.
