And if they had a higher prize amount for the 4th place person in the group then this wouldn't be a problem. It's still GOM's job to make all the matches worth playing.

Well... this is why people take e-Sports as a joke... Buncha no life video game nerds enjoying their own fest... no professionalism at all.

You cannot force players to play seriously in games that don't mean anything. It's totally up to Naniwa and he obviously wasn't in the mood for playing a showmatch right after he's been knocked out of the tournament. It's his choice; deal with it.

Similar things have happened before earlier as well (including Stephano vs Brat_OK if I recall correctly, where both were trying as hard as possible to lose, IdrA forfeiting his matches against Nerchio, people forfeiting their consulation match at MLG) and there's never been much flack about it. In fact, people were heavily defending IdrA for his forfeit against Nerchio.
Now, lets face it, the game between Naniwa and Nestea was useless, both were at 0-3 and wouldn't advance, so why still care as a player. They play to win and to earn money, not to play useless games while you're very frustrated. In the end, a person plays money to see good games, not to see games in general. Watching Stephano vs Brat_OK was literally insulting, similar to IdrA's six pool against MC a while ago, so I see no difference to end it as soon as possible than to play it out while being uninterested.
In the end, it is also the fault of GOM.tv. I do find this Blizzard Cup not that great with BO1 matches which results in cheese or risky strategies and now losers-bracket and they could know that such situations could happen.
Was it mannered by Naniwa? No, but it was not a completely strange discision either. When you're actually training very hard (and not just sitting at home, eating and watching Starcraft 2) then you are stressed when you lose and absolutely not interested in playing useless matches when you really want to go away and get yourself together.

Hello, im a professional gamer. I work 10h a day, 7 days a week to be good. I qualified to this one tournament. I will get to play the best players in the world.
...
I lost 3 games because I was a victim of cheap strategies. Thousands of hours of work flushed down the toilet. Then a company comes and says "Hey! How about you play a show match now?"

They didn't sell tickets/advertise for the up&down. It was a part of the season ticket, and the format was explained many times.

The match isn't pointless btw, it was to determine the 4th and 5th place of the group.
Yes, you can say that it was same amount of prize money regardless, but as professional players, you don't play simply for money. Therefore, that ranking involved does count as "something" they are playing for.
Just like the NBA and NHL regular seasons, teams that know they aren't advancing to the playoffs still play their full games. Just as any professional sports would. Naniwa just simply showed a lack of professionalism and integrity for the sport in general

Three cheap strategies?
It's not the players fault that Naniwa does the same thing in almost all of his games.

I still support Naniwa, screw pointless matches
|
Nothing to get upset about, no reason to be a drama queen over this. It was a pointless game and if he doesn't want to play it it's fine. He doesn't owe the fans or anyone else anything.

Gom's production team said they aren't even mad. Publicity over tiny things like this actually do more good than harm for the GSL. Naniwa isn't in trouble, and you're making a big deal out of nothing.
|
Stop making this a bigger deal than it is. Jesus Christ... The game had no meaning whatsoever. For the people who claimed that it was as bad as match fixing, how do you figure that? I'd love to know how your mind works, or doesn't.

It's a big flaw if you have to play a match like this, but it's also a joke that something like this happens.
I would like to see someone worker rush and screw around in a KeSPA runned league/tournament. They aint no joke and thats how it should be. Sc2 is so ameatur-ish compared to them. People can say whatever they want about KeSPA but they make SCBW legit as fuck.

Playing in one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year, with some of the greatest players in the world. Even if you're technically out, you should be playing for pride.
Naniwa showed that he simply has none. Sad, because I was really rooting for him,

Hello, I work as a programmer. I work fulltime doing my job. I completed a project planning a new system and I will start working to make it one of the best systems in the world.

Some boss decided to cut the budget and I didn't get to do it. Then someone came and asked me to start on a new project.
Face it, if you're doing something PROFESSIONALLY. You have to be PROFESSIONAL about it.

The game didn't decide who got the Code A.
It decided who might have a chance to advance in the weekly tournament, which if he eventually won, would score him a spot in Code A. So he still needed to win like 5-6 bo3's I guess.
I get your point, but it's misleading.

I gained a lot of respect for Naniwa when he explained why he switched teams to have an opportunity to make more money for performing well in tournaments.
I just lost all that respect and any respect I could possibly have for a person to be given such an opportunity and throw it back in everyone's face. It is even more sickening that the majority of the people discussing this topic defend his actions. Quitting is one of the worst forms of disrespect that exists in competitive games (professional or amateur). People can continue support him as they please, but I won't be watching any more of his matches in the future. His actions were unprofessional and disrespectful to everyone.

Just like how your Blizzard Cup ticket will also include all the games right? These groups are only "part" of the Blizzard Cup.
