People should remember it's not even in PTR yet. They are just saying pretty much that they think the 4gate wars PvP is stupid and are looking at ways to fix it, and this is one (of many) possible solutions.

I think this would be an unfavourable change for PvZ, but then I'm a zerg player, so I would say that...

They will _never_ do this. They made it pretty clear that Protoss are meant to use warpgates, the research is just there for balance reasons.

Defending also doesn't become easier because your units build faster. Most Protoss get 4Gateways up short after an expansion, but rarely do they warp-in from all four every warpgate cooldown. It isn't possible to be perfect with Warpgates so protoss usually compensates by getting 1-2 more than they need early game and 5-6 late game.

Having your units stream out of your gateway when a ling bust enters isn't going to make it easier to defend either, being able to choose where your units are made is a pretty big advantage within itself, especially for defending, it lets you build up a small force in an area that is safely defended before entering the fight again.

I dislike how they "fix" everything by increasing times for upgrades and such or making units slower. It's really boring to watch if the tempo is too slow.

This is awful. Changing warpgate will break any other matchup.
PvP is very fun at the moment (as a player). There is a defender advantage and 4 gates can even be held with 3 gates (with good micro tough). Blink stalkers and phoenix make this matchup very fun. Altough the games are often short, they are very intense and require a lot of skill.
If any change is really needed, Blizzard should remove the warpin-on-highground mechanic.

The biggest complaint about SC2 I hear from BW fans is that it's too fast. More specifically, Idra complains constantly that the races get their macro mechanics to kick in faster than their scouting becomes available.

Though, more time spent researching warp gates is more time spent tying up the cybercore. If the research time is increased significantly enough, this is a de facto hallucination nerf.

I'd rather continue to be bored by PvP matches than have to deal with proxy gates every other match. Maybe they'll make spine crawlers build 10 seconds faster or something, too.

lol @ everybody saying it will break the other matchups. At least one of them (probably both) already IS broken, so what harm could it possibly do? Nerfing Protoss at this moment can only lead to a better balanced game, simple as that. I am not even whining or complaining here, but at this stage its pretty much obvious protoss is the strongest race atm.

Yeah PvP is boring, but ZvZ is broodwar was not the same ? Zergling then mutas ? 4 gate then Collosus wars ?

Why "fix" ? Only good thing would be all same but limit warping to a certain distance of the nexus. You use WARP PRISM to warp far. You could get a TC upgrade for far warp pylon. Oh man I'm already theocrating sorry.

"We will address 4gate in the next patch", really ?
Again removing a strategy from the game ?

I don't think you can change the warpgate research time without breaking the game. Things like RoachRush and 2Racks All Ins only become defendable by warping in a sentry as soon as the warpgate tech is finished. You don't have time to wait another 40 seconds for the sentry to produce, because your first Force Field will be timed out and heÄs going to destroy you.

PvP is going to be retarded without a fast Warp Gate and here are the reasons:
-ProxyGates will be played more often because of reduced unit cooldown and on maps like close Meta/Shattered a 3 Gate Opening without gas will become standard.
-Without 4Gate you can't punish an opponent who's going for some ridiculous tech such as 1 Gate DT or Phoenix. It's going to become a coin flip because you have to blindly chose which tech you get. With 4Gate that's not a big problem because you can just go Robo and defend against everything.
-FE builds which make the other 2 Mirror MatchUps more enjoyable won't be used anyways. Warp Gate tech will still finish before the expansion gives any benefits.

I think the only change which would improve the matchup is a good way to use static defense. Just give the Photon Cannon 7 range and Protoss can defend a ForgeExpand in PvP.

But I hope I'm mistaken and PvP is going to be as interesting as TvT after the next patch.
(I'm Protoss btw)

I actually like playing PvP as much as I like PvT and PvZ. But I understand that it is boring from a spectator's perspective and therefore it should be changed.

Why don't they just increase warp in time and bring back the bonus damage to units who are warping in(as far as I know you don't do any bonus damage to warping in units right?). That way you could snipe units that are being warped in by your army, but it wouldn't ruin all of the protoss timings.

This is so stupid that it infuriates me. You don't nerf for sake of nerfing, you target the cause of the problems. Slapping an increased research time on Warpgates isn't going to solve lategame issue for Zerg, it might just imbalance the early game to favor the zerg. Now you have two problems, Zerg is too strong early and Protoss too strong late*.

*NOT saying that it would actually play out like that, just trying to make a point

Terran probably has to wall off a lot more vs Toss now.

Also, hope this isn't the only Toss change, they definitely need a nerf or Terran/Zerg need a buff.

The complaint about P at the pro level is that their 200/200 ball is too strong with Colos in it. Which is indeed a problem Blizz mentioned in the situation report for patch 1.3 (They want to see how P does without KA first).

The issue with 4gate PvP is thus.

1. If my opponent is 4gating me, I need 4 gates to win.
2. If my opponent doesn't 4gate, and I build 4gates, not only CAN I 4gate, I *have* to, because my build is so inefficient otherwise.

So PvP was ALWAYS 4gate on 4gate.

At the Pro Level, Terrans and Zerg aren't complaining about straight 4gates, though fake expo into 4gate is tricky for Zerg.

I'd be careful about confusing your own opinion with total consensus. Protoss almost certainly has the biggest advantage in the current meta game. Will that continue to be the case? Probably no. Does it indicate imbalance? No.
