What an action-packed game on this rainy day!

Action did that double drop and 3rd attack very well. Got into a macro advantage from there and closed it up nicely! He grew into such a strong player.

Do you guys like the calendar to be updated with the current match or not?
I mean it does kinda spoil the results it if you decide to visit TL during the event, but don't plan on watching it live.

I agree. Felt like that in the next game too.

Also, mini just won that all of a sudden.

I remember him always being like this when I watched him back in 2011. On the up, but really aggressive in a nuanced way, but very awesome micro.

action should either go 1st or dont qualify, so there is no flash-action free 1/4 final for flash and don't get me wrong, I don't mind flash winning it, I just want to see him doing it vs the best competitors, not the worst

He looked lost once the zealots harassed his base. I'm guessing he knew Mini had a fourth up and running and he wanted to destroy Mini's fourth base, but Mini too good with multitasking.

So we can get a Flash v Snow, then Flash v Larva!

That's not easy at all for Flash.

I honestly don't understand the hype about Movie.
I wasn't following the scene back when he was a top player,
but it's easy to recognize that, besides the fact that he's obviously rusty,
the guy isn't smart at all.
You cannot challenge the top tier when your game iq is in the range of 83,
unless you are bisu.

Bisu is probably the only "dumb" player who manage to make it to the top,
probably the greatest Protoss player to ever play the game also.
His mechanics, apm, multi tasking and practice did compensate for his fried shrimp game iq.

movie, however, isn't in that league.

happy that rain came back with 2 strong games to make it to the ro8.

Which is great Let's see how Snow holds up with his strong PvT, in Flash's court.

Hard to predict how the Ro4 will look like. I guess hero and Flash and Larva and Rain seems to be the most likely group to get there. Can't wait to see the games!

The thing that I did not get is Hero in Flash side of the bracket so we won't have the previous final again. Regarding the champion I would like to watch the 1/4 round first, I have no idea how best of 5s will look like on these maps honestly

Well, I find this insulting. I'm not a Bisu fanboy, but how is he "dumb"? Anything to back that up? An IQ in the range of 83, come on? Fried shrimp game IQ? This is not to say that I'm completely fine with calling Movie "dumb" - it's just a matter of good manners, really - but at least he's not the dominant all-destroying (zerg at least) REVOLUTIONARY protoss that Bisu was. Come on, you tilt the whole PvZ matchup in favor of P for some time, while destroying the top Zerg player, only zerg bonjwa, and you have the game IQ of a fried shrimp? Someone just invented the whole build for him and then he practiced it with his fried-shrimp-IQ until he had it perfected and just made it viable through mechanics and multi-tasking? Hell, I cannot imagine someone having such multitasking - which involves solving several problems at once not just mechanically, but intellectually - with a... what was it? Oh, a fried shrimp game IQ. Come on. /rant

Flash has possibly the second hardest ro8 draw besides Mind. I have to go in favor of Shuttle in his match vs Rain, Larva has an edge against Mini, but herO would probably destroy Mind... and I'm seriously worried about Flash. Still rooting for him, though. He just has the LAN presence and experience that can be matched by few. But, well, as long as he doesn't die to a Zerg, I'm happy.

do not take that too seriously, but what I meant is bisu is the only guy without a strong game sense who make it through the best players in the world.

Even a rusty JD, or Rain for instance, are going to be a challenge for anyone because, well, they are smart players. it doesn't apply to what I saw of Movie.

Remember the shuttle with a reaver inside that he basically suicide for no reason to JD on sparkle :o

Seeing as Flash is wary of Hero more than any other Zerg and Mind being nowhere near Flash's level in TvZ, it just seemed logical. Hero is a beast and is, at least for me, the best zerg player ATM, although not as flamboyant as larva or having the deadly precision of Soulkey. Maybe I'm wrong, but hero vs mind is pretty tilted for me.

each player can thumb down one of gladiator/sparkle/transistor/third world which means the thumbed down map won't be played twice. then the maps are randomly ordered.

Heart says Shuttle, Mind, Mini, Flash in ro4.

Mind says Shuttle, Hero, Larva, Flash (with a small lead, though. Snow is a monster as far as I've followed him.)

Thats funny, because Movie is known for having extraordinary low APM for a pro. So how does a guy with barely 200 apm become one of the best protoss in professional bw in 2009-2011? Let me tell you, by outsmarting and outthinking his opponents. You use one example of some fault he did in one game vs jaedong last round and use that as your basis to claim that he is a dumb individual. Guess what, jokes on you.

Movie has not been practicing much lately and from what i have seen of him in these recent interviews, it doesn't seem like he feels that great about himself either. Which is sad (if its the case).

Snow is really good on these maps. Flash might almost be an underdog. I think Flash will down vote Sparkle.

Happy to see 2 protoss players made it. Sad for Action but I don't think he's ready just yet if that last game was any indication. He certainly has the potential to be a top 5 zerg imo so hopefully he'll keep pushing forward in the next ASL. Movie losing wasn't surprising. He was such a force to be reckoned with, probably top 3 protosses then but being rusty doesn't help.

I'm extremely pleased with the Ro8 groups. More so the second half. We get Snow vs Flash, a chance to see if Flash can still tangle with protoss offline on the new maps. If Flash beats Snow and sadly, I think he will, he'll have to contend with either Mini or Larva. Mini's style gives Flash trouble and Larva vs Flash would be a fantastic watch so whoever advances, it'd be great regardless! If Flash loses, well, great! I'm just highly doubtful this will happen.

First half is ok. PvP can go either way imo, depends on preparation. Mind vs hero is likely in hero's favour seeing as Mind's vZ during the wildcard matches looked terrible :/ We are guaranteed at least 1 protoss in the semis, potentially 2-3 depending on Larva and Flash. Likely a zerg guarantee too with hero. Imagine if both Mind and Flash are eliminated then we ended up with 3 Ps and hero haha.

Has anybody brought up that action is the one that killed his hydra den in the final game? The zealots didnt do a single point of damage to it. He attacked it with two different control groups of hydras. Thats a pretty huge blunder... he double mis-clicked 2 control groups of hydras and didnt even realize it until after he put 850 pts of damage into it while he was being attacked by zealots.
What the fuck.

Snow v Flash should be good, I hope the maps help give snow a fighting chance.

I can't help but think flash will just do fast Goliaths every game vs snow and win though.

Movie vs Mini wtf? Movie was up 35 supply, then he went full chobo against a control group of zealots in his main and lost all his probes. Then lost more vs 1 freaking DT while getting completely out-microed in the front battle. What the hell was that. Even if you don't put an observer in place to scout the top place (don't really get why you wouldn't but ok...) but his reaction was so freaking bad. Holy hell.

Really surprised by how well Action played. Not sure why he would go for a off hatch in Minis base in the winner's match. With his macro and general play in all three games he would have won a macro game against Mini imho. Mini played very sloppy. Not sure about the last game though. If I had to put my finger on something it was the mutas. They did nothing and probably delayed his lurkers by too much. The game spiraled out of control after he lost too many hydras to zealots and gave Rain the opportunity to massacre all the overlords.

Rain is not as consistent as I would like. Hard to give predictions for such a player. He obviously has the talent and produces more than an occasional glimpse of brilliance, but still, we don't know much about his current form. Which could very well be explained by looking at cleavages.

And looking at cleavages is actually great.

Is this were played on ASL1 to ASL4 maps I'm pretty sure Flash would win, but alot of ASL5 maps are just TvP graveyards. Combined with the unpredictability of TvP I think Snow has a really good chance.

Not trolling but I seriously don’t get how people think flash is going to win against snow. I feel they might be overestimating flash a bit, plus snow has extremely good PVT. These maps are tough for Terran. Snow is going to tear flash a new one.

i had to read this like 3 times to make sure I had read it correctly

the map could literally be called 'flash does not start with any SCVs' and I would probably still take Flash to win

What the fuck.

Sooo true xD
Meaning he wasn't attacking zealots which he would of probably killed and kept his den

Holy hell.

PvP has always been Movie's weakest matchup. To make matters worse he hasn't been practicing that much, and it showed. Had he simply practiced more he probably would have made it out of the group.

Against Movie who lost against a speed zealot runby in the late game earlier... Yes he played better but how much pressure you get from your opponent and how well he defends your harass always impacts how good your play is looking.

Aside from Sparkle, they are just TvP graveyards because most terrans suck balls compared to top players of the other races atm. In a tournament format that is. They just don't play intelligently.

My comment was (supposed to be) a joke, given that Shuttle didn't play any vP matches in the Ro16.

I would disagree that they suck balls. Sure, if you compare to Flash perhaps, but these are the best TvP players in the world we're talking about. I think Mind would have been knocked out early if he also had to face protoss on these maps.

It's easy to call every other terran bad when comparing to Flash.

The layouts on all ASL 5 maps makes TvP much harder than usual.
According to Reach, he is the fastest learner he has ever seen. He start bw only like 2/3 years ago. Infact, his bw history knowledge is so limited, he didn't even know what the map Guillotine was.

Erm, no, I specifically said compared to top players of the other races, not Flash. I mean come on, Sea lost to Movie on Gladiator... He chose a subpar build order after doing decent damage in the early game, somehow got 60 supply down entering the late game, pushed out without 2-1 through the middle of the map. That are so many chobo mistakes... And Movie is, allegedly, not even practicing full-time. Rush scouted a proxy robo and started his engineering bay 1 minute later and tanked the first drop with marines instead of scvs... Light rambo rushed Shuttle with Marines off of Rax-CC into 3 Rax and Shuttle saw the marines coming... The only legitimate TvP losses without the terran messing up terribly were Mong vs Snow and Last vs Snow. The first one was on Sparkle and Mong did well with his strategy. I would put that loss on the map considering current knowledge and elaborateness of strategies on island maps. Last vs Snow was a toss-up because it was a complete all-in by Snow. So yeah, 1 loss in TvP in the entire ASL was due to maps. Not what I would call a map pool that is a terran graveyard. What we have seen throughout this ASL is terrans digging their own graves.

Generally I would say, and people have discussed that at length before, some of these maps such as Sparkle and Third World haven't seen enough play time to really say anything about balance. Hell, it took prodigy players months and months to figure out a counter strategy to certain builds on standard maps. That doesn't mean we can't make statements like "the map pool is a terran graveyard this ASL" because that might be true regardless of the balance that could be achieved over time. However, as I explained in my previous paragraph I don't think that's true at all.

^ Sea lost to Movie on Gladiator, not Transistor. His first game was against Pusan on Sparkle which he won (we saw valks vs corsairs!). I agree otherwise. The skill level of terran players feels really subpar this ASL for some reason. Part of me wants to say that they are having a hard time adapting to the map pool but part of it might also be that some of them weren't preparing as hard as say Action was.

I mean, Light's play has felt lacking for ages now and Sea barely practices BW (he did the night before from what I hear). Mong played well but lost to an inform Snow and TvT to Last. Last made his new usual exit and Rush was outplayed by Mind on Sparkle then lost to Best after he went for a hidden third on Transistor lol. As for Sharp, I don't even remember anymore. His vZ has always been lacking and he got no TvTs to help him out.

As an example, light vs Shine on Sparkle. Light gets into a fantastic position with his drops then sits back and let's Shine take all over the map or what about last vs miso? Last might not have had a commending lead but he left Miso to just expand all over the bottom of the map and could've done something. He just sat back and let Miso build-up till he got crushed.

Ah true, Gladiator. Doesn't really invalidate my point though. I didn't address Pusan vs Sea because the terran won.

It was Light vs Shine with the drops. Light just never expanded. Killing a base or two while the zerg is constantly 3 bases ahead just doesn't work... I think I said it in the LR thread back then but iirc it was the game where Light got the wrong read on Shine's opener (4 hatch before pool).

I don't really know what I should say about ZvT on Sparkle. At least the ASL games looked like Terran playing to uneconomically, as in expanding way too late. It looked the exact same way in ZvP in the beginning, with the zerg teching fast and losing because the protoss was way ahead in the economic game. Zergs certainly adapted the fast mass expansion style in ZvT on Sparkle.

ya, that was my point. Light and Last both sat back and barely expanded imo, in comparison to their zerg opponent.

And yeah, I'm 99,9 % certain that terrans have better ways to deal with zergs on Sparkle than they have showed us so far.

I don't really think of it as an upset tbh. I also predicted Jaedong to get out of the group (alongside Effort, how wrong I was^^) but in Bo1 ZvZs a lot can happen and JvZ doesn't exist anymore. There was a time when Jaedong nullified all the discussion about BO wins in ZvZ by winning like 78 % of ZvZs regardless of openings. However, that was back in 2009/2010 or so iirc. JvZ wasn't a thing anymore in the end of the Kespa-era. In fact, Hydra was probably the last dominant ZvZer before the switch happened. Larva and Effort are both no walk-overs so yeah, I knew there was a good chance for JD to not advance.

Maybe this is true on the whole, but that JvZ game from an ASL or two ago where Jaedong played brilliantly to overcome a huge deficit was just beautiful.

Who you guys think will win Shuttle against Rain? I'm thinking Shuttle because he supposedly practices all day and has an amazing work ethic. Even though Rain might have more talent.

Depends on whether Rain is going to practice hard or not. If he does he will probably win. If not, Shuttle will probably take it.
