The banning process in the previous BSL tours was that you ban until 1 map is left and then the loser can choose from the complete map pool (no double maps).

a map that is from what i hear, wildly imbalanced. Would be nice to have a DL link to whatever version of it we are supposed to play at least

should practice some sparkle then, still have a week. And you are protoss main, if it's imbalanced it is in your favor. I'm a huge fan of including it - games there are super interesting. ASL today had 5 games, two really cool ones on sparkle and 3 total garbage ones on other maps.

And in regards to sparkle, even if its imbalanced in favor of protoss, id rather win with skill than abusing a shitty map. Im pretty sure the reason the other ASL games sucked is because pros are devoting 90% of their practice time to only sparkle since it requires a totally new meta..something id rather not have happen in BSL.
But, if sparkle is to be played, please add the download link in the OP at least

i would like to bring up the issue that is Daylight Saving Times.
north america already changed into their daylight savings. CET will change on 25th march.
my guess is the times will be like this:

please remove sparkle from the map pool and add a map that is actually balanced
or at the very least change the ban system to an actual veto where loser cant just pick the 1st map I ban

because having one game from each matchup is a reliable sample size lol. Even if you did rely on that sample size, you would have to conclude that it IS imbalanced, each matchup has a 100% win or loss rate with only 1 game played...

I strongly disagree with changing the banning system and/or banning sparkle. Adapting to a new/unique map is a very important skillset in brood war, and one that has been missing from the foreign scene for a very long time. ASL players are forced to play both sparkle and transistor, with no vetos, no dodging and little to no complaining. Listening to one person because he's salty he lost on a map he never practiced on (that's on him, not anyone else) is very counterproductive. Also, the map really isn't that imbalanced, most top players have a larger than 50% win rate in all matchups, meaning any imbalance can be overcome by player skill.

I'm 100% with avi-love. It's not even about sparkle in general (although I love the map), just that I think 'is able to play well on many different types of maps' should be a valued skill-set. Being able to completely veto either one or two (depending on rank) out of a 6 map pool detracts from that.
I also think sparkle has been incredibly refreshing.
As far as balance is concerned, the fact is out of the map pool (sparkle cb blue storm longi tau jade) there are strong imbalances present for most of those matchups. Looking at starlogg % by race for players at 2100+ or 2400+ (proleague cutoff being between those two), zerg is totally fucked on longinus, p is totally fucked pvz tau, (and jade), t struggles tvp jade. But it's always possible to get a balanced map in round 1, and then you both get one pick after..
Basically my point is I really like the system how it is now and I don't understand the need for change.

Honestly i think ban system overall is not good trend. Korean style map order is alot better in my opinion. I prefer practice few interesting tactics on interesting maps more then just mass gaming FS/CB over and over again. I don't think it's a good time for change anything for this stage of the tournament, but for playoff maybe? It will be more interesting to have 4 different maps over 6 maps (few of them you will never play anyway, but maybe you want to use some special tactic on Tau Cross, but your opponent will ban it, so all your effort for map preparetion will gone)

Anyway it's more interesting for me to be with korean pro-players on the same wave. Copy their playstyle on new maps (or maybe even bring something new if you talanted enough!). I feel like dinosaur when i have to play Tau or Longinus tbh :D. This maps is more inbalanced then Sparkle or Transistor for me.

I really agree with this too. With the veto system for first two weeks though, you would always get to play your special strategy (unless you win 2-0), but now you might practice one build on one map and then have that map be banned on the day of the tournament, which is really unfortunate.

I undestand your objections guys, most of them are on point and actually after getting so many comments and PM
s I dont know which way of choosing maps I should choose. Please undestand me that I also would like to test some systems, and in February with BSL I was changing map every week, also now I would like to have some flexibility to make changes.
Now I know that I should make changes like this during thing phases of the Tour. And now we are in the point when everybody hates me for that choice :D
Soon I'll publish one official way of banning map for group stages and bracket.
