Well, after some odd 13 years of war... Protoss won in the end.
Which is why it's a "good" moment to do the switch. If they waited until BW died on it's own, they wouldn't be able to abuse the emotional factor..
Thats great! There's nothing I love more than emotional abuse!
Yeah, that's why it's in quotes. It's "good" from OGN's standpoint since they need the viewers, they feel they have enough of a fanbase/viewer base they can take the initial hit and recover later on when some people start coming back

This. Beleive it or not I still follow DotA2/Starcraft 2/LoL, but just nothing compares. This game was good for the game, nothing gimmicky..just the most balanced and hardest game possible with the most passion involved. R.I.P.

thats like saying "we killed ur grandfather, instead of letting him die naturally because it would be more dramatic"....wtf
Fuck man, it's incredible and saddening to think it's over. I started watching BW in 2008 and it was such an incredible experience to see what had been built and the reverence surrounding it. I witnessed Flash's rise to glory as the Ultimate Weapon from when he was a young chobo and participated in the GomTV Averatec Intel Season 1. I got so engrossed into the StarCraft culture I would watch it all into the night and didn't give a shit about studying for my HSC when there were proleague games on. I was shedding tears at Boxer's autobiography, and trying to make it on iCCup. I barely made it as a C- protoss player and I was so damn proud of my achievement. Bisu and Best were my inspiration as they were dominating at the time, I don't even know where this is going.
I don't have the same connection that some people do, stretching back to the game's humble beginnings as an eSport in 2002/2003, but man I feel just as heartbroken. BW was something else. It saddens me that a lot of die-hard BW fans don't enjoy SC2, as it really can deliver if you're patient and understanding of it, but what are you going to do. For some BW was a way of life, and I can understand that, it had a certain power about it that few games do and the following was incredible and deserving.
Goodbye TL and BW. Thanks to the players, commentators, writers, LR thread authors, etc.

I still have the Starleague 2005 Highlights (HQ) saved in Windows Media format...so epic.
You can find one on youtube but it's low quality, and this was mostly before youtube became a thing . I remember watching it as a teenager to stay inspired.

Yeah.. this is purely from OGN's standpoint, they need the viewers. For fans it's obviously a horrible feeling. Just see how they hookup people with the allkill OSL announcement immediately after the ending. This is carefully planned, it's TV after all.

It was a roller coaster of emotions and cherished memories, and will live on forever in all of our hearts. Just like an old friend, it will not die unless we forget.
Long live Brood War. It's been a wild ride.
Thanks to all those who helped build its great legacy. You've all made history.

Just next Starleague (SC2:Wings of Liberty) sponsor.

It truly is the end of an era. GGs.
I feel you, man. I used to wait until 5 am to watch PL back in the day. As a protoss, I loved Bisu, too. Being inspired by him I started playing exclusively PvZ (my worst matchup) until I finally hit C- (my best ranking ever). Never been so proud of any other gaming achievement

By comparison, shinhan bank's contract for PL was 4 billion krw over 3 years (3.52 million USD) according to kespa site.
get foreigners to pay for shit and that's ESPORTS. koreans and chinese don't pay for anything.
50,000 x 20 = 1 million. Over 3 years, that's 3 million, < 3.52 million.
Someone should make a montage where Jangbi is included in the end.. Long live BW, my first osl was Movie vs Flash, that 2009 ever osl, wish i got earlier in the scene when savior was dominating and before even...
One of the greatest memories in my life is of BW, love you all boys and girls and this game. And will continue to play on Icc...

holy shit sherlock, way to miss the entire point
*edit*- to be a little bit friendlier, the point is that a much smaller dedicated viewerbase can support a pretty much equivalent league rather than ask a company to plop down a million USD to sponsor a video game league.

Man you understand me perfectly, that's exactly what I went through and my best ranking as well. Respect.

Didn't your parents teach you not to get into an argument at a funeral?
