Drops in particular can do a LOT of damage if the Z reacts incorrectly. A dropship full of bio with +1, stim, and decent positioning can kill a large number of lings, and tons of drones if Z is slow to bail. By the time the 2base/drops get going Zerg already has the eco lead, assuming he plays it smart and puts spines up front, doesn't foolishly take a third, and gets his upgrades at a correct time.

Usually the toss will forge fast expand and the zerg will take a fast 3rd hatch. Then depending if the protoss goes for 2 base or take a quick 3rd, the zerg plays defensive or aggressive.

TBH you can play a defensive 3 base TvZ with a big 2-2 timing pre-hive with just a little early harass and pressure. But flash set up for a defensive 3 base TvZ with a really marine/medivac heavy composition, and rightfully got rolled because he couldn't handle the banelings. Faster second factory and a few bunkers in front and he'd have been pretty secure before he was ready for a big push out on the map.

Often Zerg maxes out very fast on roaches and goes for non-stop aggresion. Protos has been experimenting with one get expand as well. (Protoss can go for robo, stargate or blink from the two bases, there are many possible techpathes) Lategame the Zerg goes for broodlord infestor and the Protos goes collosy, archon, stalker, mothership. He tries to get a vortex of on the broodlords, so they get clumped up and can be destroyed by archons splash damage.

Simply look at all top sc2 players currently ? If you talk about current BW players then you proberly are correct, just seemed like you were talking about all in general.

Pretty much, fast 3base into a 12 minute full-out roach max with burrow, speed, and sometimes +1 is still a common strat. Forcefields have to be perfect, etc..

I would say for those staying the same race, T sc1 to sc2 has to adapt and change the most. I'd imagine it's probably the most switched from race (someone who knows where can verify? I can think of only FBH that switched right now). I know a lot of zerg wanted to switch, but thats more so because they feel zerg is weak than not likeing their race.

It's a pretty weird metagame right now, honestly. Both sides feel uncomfortable for large parts of the game. Generally, see the SPL guide for a better explanation, but standard would be Protoss Forge FE being countered by Zerg taking a super-fast third. Air play as a follow up is falling out of style, because Zergs like to pressure with mass roach. Tosses have been experimenting with Carriers in this matchup, but it's never really worked.

Effort got to 3 bases without making a single zergling. You can't do that.
