It starts at around 3:20. You can see how Jaedong places his hand on the keyboard. I would just like to ask you guys on how do you do this. For me, I used to use 5-0 for hatcheries and I hit them with my left index finger.

I saw Jaedong's hand placement on that video and I was like "dang, new hotkeys babeh"

This is how like every Zerg plays hand position wise
|
they show his Lhand on one of the shows and it's totally standard, if he's based on 4 he's got his ring on S and works and if he's based on 1 he's got unit stuff going
he also has his pinkie bent very far (like pretty much every top korean zerg) so that he can keep his ring and pinkie locked into position, his index and middle are hooked at medium tension and he moves his arm not his wrist
he also mashes the hell out of his mouse and keyboard and never doubleissues

Uh thats pretty much all standard I think.
I use that but use pinky for not only ctrl but also a, s and other keys located there.
Well actually I don't even use pinky for ctrl anymore but the part of my hand that is under the pinky.

for mine, this is how it goes:

4-middle finger
s-pinkie finger
d-ring finger
5~0-index finger

h-index finger
6~0-index finger

4-middle finger
5~6-index finger

I usually hotkey 1-3 for lings/hydras, 4-9 for hatcheries, 0 for lurkers (cos i can afford to reach for U and Ctrl and Shift buttons)
My F2 is towards main to upgrade/research/building, F3 for rallied area, F4 is anywhere if i wanted to do a flank, so i use F3 and F4 for that..

I really don't have anything to add on Jaedong's handposition except that it seems pretty standard for Zerg players with regards to their hotkeys (unless you're me and do 1sh2s3sh4sh5sh6sh7sh :p)

Lol! Pardon me.. But i guess that's kinda standard for all zergs, probably a little in the way pinkie finger may not be used rather than ring finger..

I don't know how he hotkeys but his hands just looked rly wierdly placed / crooked (sort of) when i saw him live

Yeah I hotkey the same way as the OP. It's the type of hand-positionning you have to unlearn from playing FPSs (or any other game that requires that type of navigation):

I'm still doing it this way because i'm more comfortable, but i may be switching some time soon since i'm back to SC for the long run

Yeah, I used to play CS before playing DotA then SC.
I think I have to study how to do en masse hydras using 5~0 with one hand because I used the style of Day[9], I think. I take my right hand from my mouse to press 5~0. But, atm, I use F2 for my main filled with hatcheries and 6~0 are my expos.

JD hotkeys his first hatchery to 4 and 0, first Overlord to 2. Eventually he'll override grp 4 with units and just use 0 to macro from his main. As for what fingers he uses, I have no idea. :D

it would be great to be a zerg player with really short pinky/ring/middle fingers to maneuver easily around those close-together keys, and then have a freakishly long index/thumb for reaching across your hatchery keys

its easy to cycle though my hatches with my ring mid and index finger already on numbers.
I couldn't imagine moving my hand all the way down ....

Use your feet together with your hand, you can cover more keys.

Yep I barely stretch that far and I'm 2m tall and have the biggest hands of anyone I know. There is no way to do that comfortably or fast.

I still don't know how to use the F2 thru F8... do u do Ctrl + F2 to assign location?

You can only just F2, F3 and F4. Shift+F2~F4 saves the location. Press F2~4 to go back to that location or "screen".

After trying to practice using this hand positioning real fast, I've realized it kinda looks like the shocker.
But you know what ever wins an osl shouldn't really be made fun of. Go Jaedong.

We weren't making fun of it, I would really like to copy how he places his hands so to increase efficiency and get faster. When I think of it, ring on s and thumb on m is faster than index on m.

I believe he means accidentally making scourges when spawning units from hatcheries, for ex:
When you have your hatchery hotkeyed to 5 and you want to make some hydras it would be 5sh, but a common mistake to make is to press 5ss and make scourge instead.

hm I use middle finger for pressing hotkey, ringfinger for s and index for everything cept ling and muta, where I use pinky and thumb respectively
