The Afreecatv people cared enough about the foreign community for 10 seasons. So I'd assume they may listen if we try to communicate. There must be a way around for Tastosis to cast ASL, maybe not live, maybe not on youtube,... We have to explore the options first. Obviously a nobody like me has no ability or credibility to lead such an effort, but I'm sure we have influential people in the TL community, who also have a connection to the Korean community (via Castermuse for example, or Tastosis themselves), to start a crowdfunding project and contact Afreeca. If such a project can be organized, me and I'm sure many others, will be the first to contribute.

Artosis responded to many questions on his stream, mostly clarifying what had happened. We need action asap, I hope our BW community leaders are in intense discussion right now. The people are ready, 40k views on this thread alone, think about other platforms, we are a mature player base with jobs, we will support crowdfunding efforts. We need more responses from forum lurkers, stand behind one-voice guys so that Tastosis and BW community leaders have confidence to make their moves. Lets not let this beautiful thing die in our hands.

It's amazing that the BW proscene is alive and well and that we've been gifted 10 seasons of ASL with Tastosis. Props to Afreeca for supporting BW. Now, where do we go from here to get Tastosis to cast ASL? As I understand, there are several issues involved. Twitch partnership exclusivity Artosis and Tasteless are partners on Twitch. We do not know the specifics of their contract, but it is safe to assume that unless Twitch grants them exemptions, they are forbidden from streaming on AfreecaTV. Brood War (along with CS) is literally the game that gave birth to esports. Twitch, an entire platform based around esports, would be doing a major favor to the father of esports by granting Tastosis an exemption, should they need one. Twitch would not be losing out. Artosis and Tasteless's livelihoods at the moment are firmly rooted on the Twitch platform. Remember that they were already casting professionally as employees of Afreeca for 10 seasons. Not to mention that other streamers have grandfather contracts that allow them to stream elsewhere. To Twitch's benefit, this tournament could also bring viewers back in Twitch's direction - Tastosis has built an extremely loyal following over the years, and their fanbase has followed them onto Twitch. Money for Tastosis Tastosis are the utmost professionals of their craft. We do not expect them to cast professionally for free, and we would gladly directly pay or fundraise for their casting. It's reasonable to assume that BW fans can cover the costs, given our demographic is on the older side. Money for Afreeca Afreeca will only allow English streams on their platform. It's quite safe to say that forcing foreigners onto Afreeca would not help Afreeca in any monetary sense or in viewer numbers. The foreign community is simply unable to navigate Afreeca, let alone use its payment options. Ads on Afreeca are also not relevant. When given the choice of Afreeca or YouTube in the past, foreign viewers chose YouTube for its ease of use, familiarity, and speed. For Afreeca to monetize the English casts effectively, the payments have to take place on a platform outside of Afreeca. Possible solutions 1. Twitch grants partner exemptions - Tastosis streams on Afreeca. - Afreeca and Tastosis needs to be paid. 2. Twitch does not budge, but Afreeca allows streaming elsewhere for compensation - Tastosis streams on the only possible platform, Twitch (non-partner account like Valorant). - Afreeca and Tastosis needs to be paid. How do we pay Afreeca and Tastosis? We could set up a Gofundme, Patreon or something similar. Afreeca would receive a flat fee, flat fee plus a cut, or a cut of the whole funds. This would depend Afreeca and Tastosis's negotiations. Would something like this work?

This is not even something worth complaining about at this point, i hope we all come to an agreement that whatever happens, ASL english returns to Afreeca.

Some thoughts based on my experience (2-3 years with ASL, GSL, and Sonic broadcasting team): 1. Visibility - (Keep in mind that I was broadcasting ASL before the Foreign platform launched) While the AfreecaTV gave enough support for providing the stream in a timely manner, they did nothing to promote the English Stream. It is very hard to grow as an English cast if they don't advertise at all that there is an alternative stream available. Since you have to use their platform exclusively, this also hurts. Please let English casters upload to youtube in the future. I don't believe any English caster should offer their service without negotiating this. 2. Broadcast Time - The time games are played live is brutal for a lot of English Casters. Waking up at 3:30am and then having to sit through down time and commercials and then having to drive into work is just about the most miserable thing ever. See #3 for a better solution. 3. Broadcast feed - I think it would be far more beneficial to provide clean feed vods for casters so they have an opportunity to rebroadcast. Working with GomTV for Classic Season 4, all English vods were recorded and released after the games had been played using a clean feed. This was a great way to ensure that the English cast would be professional and uninterrupted by network or technical issues. I would recommend to any future casters that they request clean feed vods and make a consistent show instead of trying their best to do it live. I am available for contact and can help produce, if anyone would like to get involved in a new community English stream.

As fun and entertaining Arty and Tasteless are I actually liked more Eons casts during ASTL. And to remind before ASL Bisudagger and Sayle (for example) had great fun and analytic casts, and frankly ASL 1-4 had HORRIBLE english commentary with all Sc2 stuff.

I've been trying to find time , but I think the youngest needs another year before I could even start to think about casting. Although, if there was someone out there who could handle all of the streaming and setup and AfreecaTV gave us clean VODs to cast from, then I would be more then happy to guest cast/co-host. But that requires a ton of work from someone else and most the of the reliable English casters are already doing a hundred things for the community.

If Afreeca are able to provide something that casters can work with, that would be the best thing regardless of who does it. Agree with the other points you made re: timing issues. Their live (English) figures are always going to look shit because of the time zone issues. I've probably watched most of ASL through VODs. Live is naturally better but it's not really going to work for huge numbers where it's an awful time zone for either Europe or the US depending on which of the typical timings they use (and arguably, for the east coast of the US, it's awful for either). But I suppose the main issue is that randoms who might join the community and add to the viewing figures aren't going to go to Afreeca, they'll be looking on Twitch, and if they're watching some random RTS streamer and cannot see someone recasting ASL in a list of recommended live channels as they're on another platform, they're out of luck. We know where to watch but random bloke doesn't, and won't find it either.

This is also kind of a problem as well, there's a huge proportion of the community who are hugely resistant to change when it comes to commentary and commentators. I still see lists of people covering SC2 tournaments and it's the same old faces tournament after tournament. It's a case of differentiating what proportion of the audience will watch some form of English cast whoever does it, even if it's someone completely new, and what proportion are "if I can't hear Tasteless making crap jokes I'm not watching"
