It is really heart opening to see so many supporters of the BW scene, willing to contribute for the Tastosis casting. I am more into SC2, however I also checked last seasons ASL with Flash going random and I loved the casting.
I would also be one of the willing people to contribute in the continouation of the Tastosis casting (if by Rules Twitch / Afreeca - possible)
We sadly do not know the full story behind it, but if its just the financials, we should be able to do it.
WE CANNOT LET ANYONE TAKE TASTOSIS PURPOSE AWAY ! They love casting ASL and SC Broodwar so much.
It's funny that the only reason twitch.tv exists is because of the starcraft esports scene, yet they feel more than comfortable putting our community members in binding contracts preventing them from keeping the game alive. Now they're more akin to a camgirl website than a platform for esports.
We shouldn't be surprised by this, there's a huge mass of people that gravitate towards particular streamers/personalities that just happen to play a video game.
It's surprising in a way in this context since these two guys also stream on twitch so you can watch them all the time with no restrictions. It's not like they're retiring from casting/streaming altogether.
As far as Broodwar casting goes, I really don't think Artosis and Tasteless elevated the experience of watching ASL too much from the point of just watching the pro-gamers duke it out. Maybe from an entertainment point of view but anything else? I wouldn't sign off on that.

I've been trying to find time , but I think the youngest needs another year before I could even start to think about casting. Although, if there was someone out there who could handle all of the streaming and setup and AfreecaTV gave us clean VODs to cast from, then I would be more then happy to guest cast/co-host. But that requires a ton of work from someone else and most the of the reliable English casters are already doing a hundred things for the community.
This is also kind of a problem as well, there's a huge proportion of the community who are hugely resistant to change when it comes to commentary and commentators. I still see lists of people covering SC2 tournaments and it's the same old faces tournament after tournament. It's a case of differentiating what proportion of the audience will watch some form of English cast whoever does it, even if it's someone completely new, and what proportion are "if I can't hear Tasteless making crap jokes I'm not watching"
Tasteless is pretty funny man and the fact that you saw it fit to throw some trash at his humour for good measure, in a thread that's shows how much they are appreciated by so many, is pretty bad taste imo. Just had to get that a little of that sweet "elitist cred" at the end there, right?
Here is the thing: Everyone makes crappy jokes from time to time. That's part of being a fucking person. Good for you, that it's not your name and face on a screen, taking the risk of having your humour being reduced to "crappy jokes", by people who haven't earned any credentials in the field themselves.
I barely ever post here, mostly a lurker. But I have been following Tastosis since they began casting (and even before in x17) and this is just horrible news. They are the most charismatic and and magnetic personalities in the scene. I would pay a good sum of cash monthly just to support their continued employment with ASL. The people behind the scenes should really reconsider and institute a monthly subscription to pad their bottom line more aggressively.
At any rate, I will be continuing to follow and support Tastosis in whatever they both decide to do in the future. I just really hope this doesn't happen to GSL any time soon.
Nick and Dan: Thanks so much for all of the content over the years. You guys are the best.
People being so melodramatic in this thread. If you stop watching BW if tastosis are not casting it, you aren't BW fans. Tastosis fans are what you actually are.

What if I stop watching because of not being able to understand the commentary and are forced on a platform that half of the time doesn't work and the other half lags every 5th second? Does that fit your gatekeeping of being a "proper" bw fan?
My favourite tournament just got cancelled for me and a lot others, as a viewer. Idk why you would think people shouldn't be a little bit melodramatic about just that. For us this is the end of having BW in our lives.
What do you mean by "gatekeeping"? An odd term. You are completely free to watch BW, it's not my fault if you refuse to watch any other English casters. I am not stopping you watching BW. It's your own decision.
Your favourite tournament didn't get cancelled. ASL 11 is still going to happen. I have full faith TL will feature those English casters who will continue broadcasting as before.

Watch it muted if it bothers you? Throw on some background music? Try to analyze the game yourself, using the information you gained from your dedication to listening to Tastosis? Enjoy the game?
The technical issues are certainly a potential problem but they are also clearly not universal for everyone; I wonder why some people have so many problems with it, as it works just fine for me.

You did have an idea of how some people are proper BW fans and others are not (only Tastosis fans). Show me those other english casters of ASL.
ASL did get cancelled for me. I used to play games on 56kb/s and enjoy it. It doesnt mean that I would enjoy it today. Same way I don't enjoy nor bother with laggy 240p videos with a language I understand nothing of, with no subtitles.
Would you continue watching your favourite TV show if it suddenly were only in Norwegian, without subtitles, and were crazy laggy?

Then I would have no game sound. Commentary is a big part of why I love watching. Doesn't need to be tastosis. However commentary is important for my viewing pleasure. I don't watch streamers. I don't play the game anymore. I haven't done that for 14 years. I do however love watching BW tournaments with an idea of what is going on.
Interesting news. It makes sense to me why they would not support an English cast anymore. Their global website failed and using a competitors' platform to try to make some profit to cover costs ( someone mentioned its possible it was demonetized due to copyrights) isn't feasible in the long run. It was their fault imo for not doing more advertising and fixing up the flaws of the afreeca website, but I'm extremely grateful for Afreeca for giving us official english casts for 10 seasons straight. That's more than anyone could have hoped for.
It's also good that tastosis will be casting valorant with them as someone mentioned earlier so that they can still earn some income rather than being hung out to dry, though letting them know of the decision before the announcement would've been nice. From my perspective, while this is a loss for the BW foreign scene nonetheless, it's a bigger loss to tastosis' fans who followed the scene only due to the casting archon role in ASL. Those who care about following ASL and watching BW will find another english caster to follow or watch the KR casts.
So, imo, the sky is not falling guys. It's not the dark ages. It's an unfortunate decision for sure, but Afreeca has been supporting BW since Sonic gave the scene a big boost with SSL and has not stopped once at trying to keep things going even when they were forced to cancel ATB. They get big props from me and I'll continue to watch ASL as long as I can.
@jealous my guess is most having problems with the site are keeping the quality at source without realizing it or the connection just isn't there. I'm fairly certain that we'll get some english casters who will cast ASL now that tastosis are no longer doing it and some of the fanbase will want english casting for their favourite tournament.
It might make sense from a business point of view, they are losing more money than gaining on the current viewership which is fair.
Real problem is now the rest of the world has less reason to watch ASL. Fewer people will discover Broodwar and the game will go back to being only for hardcore fans and koreans more than it already is.
I can enjoy a korean cast game but I would incline to skip certain matches and skip in the videos. Eventually I will just lose interest, I will miss hearing the history and personalities of the players and the fun banter in between.
