They did let them know about the decision before announcing but Artosis wanted to know when they were announcing which they didn't give a heads up to. Artosis was worried about people mistaking this on stream right after the announcement.

I totally agree. I couldn't sleep at night and was thinking about it. We can (and SHOULD) look at this situation as a possible great oppurtunity to make (foreign) Starcraft bigger.
1. Persuade afreeca to let "us" (foreigners, most likely Artosis+Tasteless with the appropiate "others") cast ASL. in exchange for money of course. (not on afreeca!) 2. Set a crowdfunding goal with this amount of money, and reach it. 3. Start casting 4. Expand and gather sponsors, make the show bigger, get someone like redbull and we will reach more viewers than in Korea. (starcraft has the potential for that)
I know there are a lot of "ifs" here (and a lot of work to be done), but I truly believe this can be achieved.
(need to be very careful with the contract with afreeca because if the english restream will be big/bigger we can't let them take it away from us, of course if that happens we could create our own tournament probably at that time from sponsors+crowdfunding would be enough)
Unfortunately I can only help with my part of the crowdfunding. I'm very excited what our community can do with this situation!
Many ppl say they would pay to view this in English, but probably only a fraction would end up doing it. That fraction could still be enough though. I hope that someone who is in touch with Tastosis is already working on this, trying to figure out at least whether there is an option like this on the table. There is still time, and if able, they could come out with a proposal. Live would be a lot better, but even VODs would be ok.
Most of us here relate Korean Broodwar scene to Tastosis, hell Tasteless casting GOM inspired me to move to Korea for a few years back in 2011 (which was the best time of my life), so it is hard to let go. And we probably could have something again, though far from what it was before most likely.
As for the decision made by AfreecaTV, well, they are a business after all, and I am grateful for what they provided so far...

On his stream, Artosis said that they had been begging Afreeca to keep them on as casters, and that they had considered crowdfunding options, but the result is as you see...

I didn't follow his stream in the past few days. That obviously removes and official cast, but perhaps there is still a way to have either casting over the games (even without a clean stream), or simply doing the VODs. The VODs are always available and free, and while far from optimal, it could work.
I hope they are going to come up with some sort of solution, anything really for this season.

Afreeca are ACTIVELY ENCOURAGING English casting. They're just not providing it themselves, presumably because it doesn't make sense for them from a business point of view. Now I've not clicked the link, but feel free to correct me if the link appends "English casters are allowed and encouraged to broadcast ASL" with "for a considerable fee which you won't be able to recoup via balloons". If so, I apologise, but if not, why would we ever need to crowdfund? There's enough moaning here that it'll surely be a case of if you build it, they will come, someone just needs to get off their arse and do it. Restreaming is not difficult.

Well the overarching goal is to make bw accessible to foreigners. The fact they restrict restreams to Afreeca is the largest detriment to that goal.
oh god thats terrible news. Well Im certainly not gonna watch it in korean, I dont NEED tastosis as streamers tho, necessarily, as long as theres something thats not korean. If anything could be done, Id support it. lol@the clowns that call people casuals that watched broodwar for over 15 years. Thats definitely the dumbest thing Ive heard all day.
Mostly been following SC2 as a main game lately but I did watch regularly important tours like ASL and this news legit made me sad, like properly sad - such a piece of important gaming/eSports history came to the end. Sucks, sucks so much, this had to happen at one point and it happened now. :/
So what's next? Will we have "official" community casters? Are Tastosis willing to do community-style cast from home(s) if community decides to crowdfund it? Is that something we can hope for?
And btw guys boycotting Afreeca/ASL/etc is counterproductive, don't do that imho. Personally I'd watch ASL even with no casters whatsoever, it's my "time of a day" to chill with things I love - casters, production and stuff like that is just a nice bonus. It's about the game, hype, what it stands for and those priceless moments with snacks and drinks watching what you are passionate about!
of course there will be community casters. I am sure there are lots of people willing to cast on afreeca and provide an english cast. The main problem is that tastosis is a big draw for the game and accesibility will be so limited with it only being on afreecatv and not youtube or twitch. Only the most hardcore non korean viewers and fans of the game will tune in to afreeca.
We'll lose all those people who were watching ASL through youtube and are long term fans of the game but have stopped playing ages ago, but still watch through easy acces.
Don't have time to go through the thread right now, but will Tasteless and Artosis be commentating separately on another platform? I'm fine with not watching live, I haven't even played the game in about a decade, but these two commentators still keep my interest in Broodwar, especially with ASL.

They probably don't know/don't care. Only a few of them know about Tastosis anyway.
Imagine the official Spanish cast (lets pretend there's one) is cancelled for example, we wouldn't pay much attention because we've still got Tastosis.
Sad news. The biggest blow is the limiting of all restreams to Afreeca which i think will hinder the growth of foreign BW. I always have problems watching games there.
The scene have a lot of talented casters apart from tastosis to help cast future ASL's. And maybe this will give some of them a larger audience. For example the casters from StarcastTV.
