I know that SCR replays intentionally don't work with 1.16, but what other notable things that can't be done in v1.16 ?
I don't want to download useless ~8GB for just that, when I don't need/like specific things in the HD.

fazek42 told me by mistake that I can "Zoom out in replay/obs and also the game" in the free scr.
[AS]Rattus gives me wrong advice on how to run the game in fullscreen (which isn't available for paid users), then claim that I'm "someone who wants to complain.no matter what".
You can have the screen following the players screen while observing. You can also see where their screens are located on the minimap. Actually I am not sure if you get these on the free version thought.
Does free SCR has HD? I thought it was only for the paid version.
Can I ask you which are the things you don't like in the remastered version?
I don't like the bonjour app which remastered is asking me to install each time when I log in. I also dislike the launcher.
No portforwarding needed for hosting, turnrate 24 (better latency) and dynamic turnrate (finding the most suitable tr), 1-click matchmaking, and a huge player population that is much bigger than iccup. New obs interface where you can do some nice things (multiselect, follow unit, check vision of each player easily, zoom out, see where they are looking on the minimap). Replay has instant rewind. Quite a few nice things, but it's not perfect yet either.

I think the most important part would be to actually be part of the community and all its endeavors. Aside from that, no ports are quite nice. And the matchmaking, even though it's not perfect. Custom hotkeys, although the purist in me does make me ambivalent about those. And all the others stuff people mention.

CanRep can do similar (watch replay as FPV), I didn't try it while observing. Observing is useless if you can get the replay and watch it as FPV, unless you want to cast/watch the game live.

I just played scr for half an hour 1year ago, while it was 1.17 beta maybe, I wasn't knowing about ICCUP then, so I guessed if I downloaded that NEW/BIG release I could play with my brother who is in another country, I hated Blizzard way to lure the user to download useless ~8GB, then gradually convince him that he already has it.
Graphically: - I don't like the new Heroes portraits (Tassadar, Rynor, etc...), those aren't the heroes we loved. - Drawing Protoss as a race with long pigtail like girls, - A Terran male character is wearing an earring.
Programmatically: - No way to play vs BWAPI AI, or use any kind of UDAI (User Defined AI), please don't tell me scr has scripts that can change the AI behavior, this is useless compared to what BWAPI can do, and I actually consider those scripts related to map editing rather than programming.

Ok, free scr doesn't allow me ladder-like ICCUP, but does it allow playing with someone out of the LAN, or in tournaments like CPL (ASL ) ? ChaosLauncher has plugin that allows observing, with group select, etc... http://www.openbw.com/replay-viewer/ allows zooming the replays, but not the observed game ofc, and allow you to go back in time in the replay, Is scr allows rewind for free ?

Was the issue of needing significantly more FPS to attain the same responsivity in SC:R ever fixed? That alone is enough to convince me to never touch it if I were strictly a melee player.

8 Gigabyte is a complete joke nowadays. Especially for a full game. Both games need to have the same data if they are supposed to work together. Especially when the game is 20 years old

1TB harddrive is like $30. 8GB is nothing. Unless you live in some backwards place where you have to pay for internet bandwidth, downloading it is nothing either.
And yes, you can play online on bnet with the free version, you just don't have the matchmaking option.

This statement is true in a vacuum but developers are never discouraged from lazy designs that contribute to bloated filesize and poorly-optimized games because of the advancements of modern technology. The complaint that 6+ of the 8GB taken up by the remaster is unnecessary for the game to be functional is valid and consumers putting up with it are a big contributor to the situation we have now: 100+GB downloads, 1+GB monthly patches, and horribly-outdated titles that perform worse than larger and more advanced games from years prior on the same hardware (e.g. SC2 and SCR).
