Personally not a massive fan of attack/move/hold/patrol being rebindable but as long as F-keys and 1-0 aren't touched I'm alright with it overall.

I'm on the fence about Patrol being rebindable but i share the same sentiment as r.Evo, i'll be happy as long as they dont touch f keys or control groups.

jeez why would they allow patrol to be reassigned?

Maybe they should not touch basic unit commands such as attack move, hold position and patrol, but instead allow to rebind 'macro' rebinding.

Not sure if I'm a fan of patrol/hold rebinding. It will actually impact gameplay, as opposed to the macro keybinds.

Rebindable unit commands directly affect unit control, which is micro, which can affect the outcome of certain engagements. I can definitely see a stronger argument for leaving these unrebindable as opposed to "macro" keys. I feel in the end blizzard will be seeing how the Korean community and what the pros think about this. They said they were willing to discuss these settings further.

How is changing the making of Probes to X, and pylons to X OK,
but changing patrol to X is not ok?

I can imagine blizzard will get frustrated.. It's such a small difference.
All of those changes affect gameplay... patrol maybe slightly more, but I'm advocate of keeping it simple: either 'free the hotkeys', or f*cking don't change anything.

I don't really care that much about this whole debate whether they allow rebinding of everything or only shortcuts or nothing at all. But I bet the main reason they don't implement the rebinding for everything is probably only because it is much more work to program custom location keys and control groups. In the first implementation of the custom shortcuts, they apparently just made an already existing list of game commands modifiable (judging from the commands in there that don't exist in final game).
So I wouldn't buy into the explanation that they did it to "preserve competitive balance", as they already changed it with the introduction of custom shortcuts.

Think of the difference between having access to patrol/hold right next to unit hotkeys for muta micro and having your key for building a probe somewhere else.

Is this really a more significant difference though? Imagine you can rebind Probe to E then you can micro around as well and then quickly hit 4e during engages rather than doing 4p or 0p.

Either way the argument stems from manual dexterity and not having to fly over the keyboard with your fingers as much.

I am curious to see what the ex-pros think about this issue as they've already built up the dexterity and precision to let their fingers roam the keyboard regardless of where the hotkeys are.

Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

There are more than enough players in SC2 who won tournaments with BW hotkeys. I really don't think it's as big of a deal as people make it out to be. If you have 300+ apm it won't really matter which key you have to press. It will change balance for lower levels, but that balance doesn't really matter anyway.

I finally installed 1.18 and I can't get the same mouse behavior as I have on iccup. Not sure what to change.

edit: nvm, it's different, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Now we need BWChart :D

I'm not playing the latest patch as my client is not updating but I thought I would mention a pretty major hidden change. In the PTR the pylon radius is smaller than in BW 1.16.1.. you used to be able to build 4 gateways underneath a pylon in a square now you can't. I don't know if it's fixed, to be honest i'm just waiting for remastered but its notable for sure, it makes base building different for P.

That is actually a bigger change for PvZ and fast forge openings (or even gateway openings at the nat seeking to make a wall). This definitely should not be and I hope this is either untrue or they are fixing this.

I will have to check myself... and you mean PTR 1.18.7 correct?
