The TeamLiquid Legacy Starleague was announced for the first time on December 31, 2012. Our plan was to host three $500 tournaments before culminating in a final event with $2000 up for grabs. Through lots of preparation, hard work and unrivaled passion by BW staff, all three tournaments ran really well and helped provide some much needed rejuvenation for a community that thrived on its unequivocal love for the game.
It's been a year and a half since the last TeamLiquid Legacy Starleague was played and we realize that we have yet to fulfill one more promise for the community; the TLS Championship. We understand that many BW enthusiasts were excited for the opportunity to compete or watch their favourite pros compete. We also understand that our lack of communication has likely saddened a lot of our valuable community members and caused mistrust to develop. For all of this, we would like to apologize profusely. It was never our intention for the delay to be this long.
The TLS Championship was set to start several months after TLS3 has concluded so that players have time to practice. However, we decided to delay the championship until some things fell into place so that we can provide the best experience possible for those playing the game and watching it. Alas, real life had other plans. Before long, time has passed, a promise has been broken and other tournaments have flourished in our absence. We want to make amends for our failure to follow up on our promise and we hope that we will do it well now.
This is why it's our pleasure to announce the TLS Championship, featuring a $2000 prize pool which will take place on January 9, 2016. More details will be provided closer to the aforementioned date. However, that's not all! In order to help foster an active foreign scene and help players prepare and practice for the TLS Championship, we are also hosting a series of smaller tournaments: the Legacy Cup series. The Cup series will feature a $100 prize pool and will be run on a weekly basis. Are you excited yet?
It is our sincere hope that this series of regularly held competitions will bring some sustained excitement to the scene, culminating in TLS Championship which will serve as a test to all the participating players. We've long known that foreign players have plenty of ability and passion, but haven't been able to demonstrate their skills due to lack of opportunities and platform.
All of this would not be possible without our generous sponsor, Rus_Brain. Asked about his inspiration in funding such an endeavor, he remarked,
A simple answer is "because I can". I could have contributed elsewhere, but I used to play BW myself and I find passion of gamers to win very thrilling. I enjoy watching games as well and this was my way to stay connected with the community.
But why now, as opposed to previous years when BW was in a bigger spotlight?
I used to contribute by making numerous local offline tournaments in Moscow. As I am growing up, my limits and heights are growing as well. Unfortunately, it is becoming more expensive for me to host the same tournaments. However, now I can allow myself to contribute in other ways. This tournament is a good example of the grown heights, along with WarCraft 3 and Hearthstone ones held by goodgame.ru. I really hope I can accomplish another mission which is something to be revealed later.
And lastly, do you perhaps have any message to the BW community in regards to their love for this 17 year old game?
If you like the game, the age is only a bright spot. Football or even Chess are best examples. I want to ask all esport fans to do their best to bring the esport to the same level as traditional sport. It is not guaranteed you will stay devoted to esport throughout your life. But what you should always do is to stay professional.
We would like to thank our sponsor very much in providing us this opportunity and we ask all of you to stay tuned as we will provide more details about TLS Championship periodically throughout the next few months. Exciting times are ahead of us!

not true, i saw you stream recently. now get your lazy ass online and grind some games
New ICC ranking system has made it a lot easier to play on higher ranks too, so that fit's with players interest to get activwe again. Big thx to Rus_Brain i hope you find a worthwhile enjoyment in this.
what's unclear right now is: how does one qualifiy for the Championship tournament? IIRC the idea was to seed the players of TLS 1-3 according to their finishes, but with regards to the timespan and the massive amount of players who quit/ don't play active enough, that doesn't seem to be an option.
Will qualifiaction be made by winning a legacy cup or will there be a ladder qualification event?

The details of the seeding process for TLS Championship was purposefully left out, because we're not sure what's the state of the current foreign BW scene. This is also the reason why we're announcing it 5 months in advance.
Our main thinking is that we definitely want to provide some kind of a benefit to the more successful players from the earlier TLS seasons. But we also want to allow new people who haven't played in those participate in the TLS Championship. Over the next few months we'll see how the Legacy Cups go and we'll devise our seeding system for the TLS Championship.
One thing I'd like to make clear is that the Legacy Cups are not the qualifiers for the TLS Championship. They may or may not be used to help with the seeding, but we might have completely separate qualifiers just for the TLS Championship.
Finally! Was thinking about tls yesterday and it was not a by coincidince. Strangely that happened with the prevous season too, it got into my head right before it got announced. It might be the Overmind, so i suspect another zerg at the finals :D
This is a bit late though, if these cup tournaments were held at a reasonable time after the last tls, foreign scene might not be so dead. Now its kind of necro. Anyways It will be super amazing to see Dragon, Wands, Draw, Doty, Technics, Sziky, Eonzerg and Cryoc back online.
Thank you Rus_Brain! Speaking to everyone who would consider themselves a lower level player (i.e., not someone who would be a threat to go deep in a tournament like this), I think you should all strongly consider entering and playing in these tournaments. I know a lot of us are excited to watch some foreign broodwar again, but to be honest I think it's wrong to view this as an opportunity only for spectatorship. This is a chance for us to actually play and participate in the competition that we love to watch, and I hope we all take advantage!

You can check out the practice partners thread and see if anyone on it is up for it. Is there something specific that you need in terms of coaching? My advice would be to watch recent SSL vods and the live streams. It'll mostly give you an idea of what to expect in the matchup, what compositions to go for, how things are grouped and what timings are. Reading LP will also help you greatly because once you know the basics, you can start playing more games and getting up to speed mechanically. Then from there, you can start focusing on strategy etc...
If you have any specific questions that you don't feel are answered by any of the above, feel free to make a thread in the BW forum and ask the question. You'll likely to get a lot of good information instead of your question being glossed over. Just make sure to do a quick search first to make sure it hasn't been answered before (or isn't relevant to your case )
Question: The prize pool is awesome, and a big thanks to Rus_Brain, of course. However, since it's already quite large, I feel this could also compel others to donate further. Who knows, in 6 months, the pool could easily be 3-4,000 - making this even greater. Realistically, this may be the last "big" BW tournament ever, so why not open some sort of donation / give others a chance to help?
Who can we contact about this? I may consider donating a decent amount myself.

it's nice of you to offer sponsoring, but pls don't be fatalistic. Perhaps this is the "last hurrah" perhaps it's not. There's still plenty BW to be played and plenty people who try to make something happen. i firmly believe this is only going to be the last big thing if we agree to let it be the last big thing. Me personally, i don't agree.

This will definitely not be the last big BW tournament ever.

I simply said it 'may.' If it's not, I will be just as happy as everyone else.
Anyhow - will there be a potential for others to donate/help sponsor? Or is it closed?

Well, we promised to have $2,000 for TLS Championship and that's what we're doing.
However, we'd like to continue some form of the Legacy Cups long after the TLS, so something could be set up.

Scan, I have read all the topic since the Big Bang. U were banned banned from TSL2 for abuse, right? If yes, I won't be as harsh as TL to ban u 4ever. But a reps.ru ten years ban will fit.
ty rus_brain for this tho, and i think there should be some type of donation button for either these cups of the Championship only to make this even greater.
ALSO more ppl will join the cups AND it will get bigger with viewers and it will spread

If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure I've been helping some reps.ru users who messaged me with replays or something other than that. Hmm..

Doubt it would happen, but since this is going to be pretty big - if some big old school folk like IdrA, NonY, Ret, Brat_OK, etc came back to play. The tournament is still months away and so if any of those guys came back now and practiced, they could easily 'un-rust' and get back into close to prime shape. That's assuming they played all the months from now until then. If they decided to come back just a few weeks before, they'd get smoked by Scan/Sziky/other tops players right now.
I gave away all my gaming stuff, traveled the world, and grew a beard... I don't know if I can come back from all that. You guys took so long to follow up, haven't played since the last event.

You have to realize he plays more with his off races than we do with our main races. Plus Starcraft 2, that too. If this tour would be hosted a year or more ago, when more people played - that wouldn't be an issue. Now, when for a year the foreign scene is asleep, and one korean plays without any life to participate in korean events, I guess everyone knows the outcome.
hm... the last 2 years... my cat died in 2013 (was 15 years old), and i went to japan a few times in 2014/2015. Now im a big Touhou fan and try to go to many events. I'm working now in shifts, even on weekends, so i work at 50% of the TLCs. My 8 year old pc died 1 month ago and just now i managed to set up everything the way i want to. I cant take part in TLC #3 and #4 because i will be in japan (comiket 88 and 4 touhou concerts). After that i need 1-2 weeks to finish everything up and then i should finally be able to practice 4h a day so i can win everything. i just hope that i find enough people to practice with... thats my only concern...... I'm sry but u need to survive Scan a little longer until im back.
