starcraft was designed to work with 12 players
but later they delted 4 - they can be used in UMS mode though

one of the players controlls "dead" players' units - in beta they keep mining and attack you, if someone leaves
one player controlls things like dark swarms (these are units which belong to him) etc

the "?" changes into a really lame face when you press start

the font is different
when you write something you dont see your own id
no sound during countdown, as well as no sound when a message in game comes
the game reminds me of warcraft2 battle.net edition

Btw 8882, I found out the other day that overlords do have a transport upgrade in beta, contrary to what we thought

But their speed upgrade doesn't actually make them any faster, lol

You actually start with 150 minerals, but thats ok

(that might also depend on the map)

Vultures and mines are awesome in this version, with the exception of when your vultures get stuck on each other/mines, which happens a *lot*. Only way to get them off is to attack the ones that are stuck. But, as I said, mines rock. They come out of the vults *running* rather than just sitting still as the vults float off of them. The vults don't actually float off in this version either, rather, the mines run off the vultures. You can also mine things from a distance, along with the fact that mines attack larva. A favorite strategy of mine is to get 12 vultures and tell them to mine a larva (actually clicking on a larva). This will make them "shoot" mines out from like 6 tiles away, and the mines run in and explode on the larva, thereby killing the hatchery

8882, reading all your posts completely amazes me.

Very interesting, very eye opening. Starcraft could have been a complete flop with only a FEW minor differences (such as the mines). TIberian Sun by Westwood was a pretty decent RTS... but the soviets had underground tanks. IF ONLY THEY LET YOU ATTACK THEM when you had detection, the game could have survived. But NO.... you can't! So everyone got underground tanks ALL the time and it was gg allies.

Tiberian sun was horrible, it might have been ok if westwood would have actually made it ( EA bought out westwood, took over development and the game sucked as a result)

Oh, and to explain blood boil: All defiler spells require you to sacrifice a unit. So the use of blood boil would be: say you are attacking a base. you manage to penetrate to his workers, so you run one ling into the middle of them, then sacrifice it using blood boil. Voila, you have a stationary AoE damage cloud right in the middle of his workers.

as far as I know (this doesnt come from tests)
ultralisk road made them run faster - like the broodwar ultralisks

there was also "zealot rage" (?) which made them run and(?) attack faster
