The buttons only get greyed out when you have ridiculously high ping(more than 500 i think), but if that happens, you're probably going to be the one who's lagging the game for everyone.

That's not what I meant, nor what chris said. The problem for Europeans will be to get on the server with a normal ping if the server is indeed going to be hosted in NZ or AU. That doesn't mean Europeans couldn't play decent games with anyone else, but to play you need to be able to actually press buttons...

Since Birdie's team has some trouble during completing their server, we have started together with mca64 setting up our own one, and placing automatching feature into mca64 launcher. After first weekend we have currently set up PvPGN beta server with added match making server host utility (deals with problem about 'can't make games cause i have no public ip TT') and early-stage ladder system. There is also beta version of website, based on old good PGTour design. We are currently working on integration with facebook, google+ and twitter, not only on website, but also (!) in battlenet and starcraft chat (this will be similar to and based on twitch chat feature, already present in mca64 launcher.

Open beta test should start near the end of week.

Stay calm, but be ready.

Well no one has even confirmed that the server will be hosted in NZ or AU. Our development server is in North America, and the only geographically strategical place to host a server is on the east coast of US or somewhere around central/eastern EU. Additional locations may be in South America, Australia, and Korea but I doubt that we will expand.

Also, it's possible for us to just disable the code that tells the clients that they can't play due to lag(grey buttons).

so, not trying to bother you guys but do you have an update or an estimated release date? Or really anything to satisfy our curiosity? I realize this takes time, I guess I'm just wondering because I'm so hyped for this. <3

Great with all you hard working people who try to make another&better server. But i dont think there is room for so much competition. iccup/birdie/mca . Have birdie&mca crew tried to work together to make 1 great server, instead of this rivalery this will turn in too ?

Dont get me wrong, im happy that there is people who are willing/capable to do this, i just dont think its good for the comunity to not split in 2 but now 3 diffrent servers. Though ( with all respect ) Birdie`s crew used really long time, much longer then they first said.

Anyways, im excited about the will to do this work and im looking forward to see the result

Well I was talking with Birdie about collaboration, but he told me that C# (my web language) and delphi (mca main language) are crap. It was about one year ago. His server was 'near' launch time even then. We are working with mca about 2 hours per day since 6 days. There isn't really much coding for such easy modules like these. Much work was already made thanks to mca64 launcher. We are currently working on next great improvement, something very awaited and revolutionasing in sc:bw scene - > recovering game from replay. There will be no tournaments disconnect issues any more! As soon as replay won't be broken, of course.

Oh, and sorry for 'hijacking' this topic. I don't really meant to do it and won't write anymore about next improvements. I wish good luck to Birdie's crew. Would be nice to have some co-partners in future, to share experience with each other.

That's a cool add, but it shouldn't be used in tournaments. otherwise someone could just disconnect by purpose and see the rep or bwchart map view, and the latter one can be done fairly quickly.

This isn't new tho. It was possible with obsmode-program in earlier version of broodwar years and years ago (you could save the game from a replay and continue playing from there), and there was even possibility to switch to player's fpview during replay (screen moved from players perspective, and you could see whathe was clicking on and what he had selected, only the cursor was not visible).
It was never upgraded to the current broodwar version tho.

I'm sure some of the older players remember the obsmode program I'm talking about, and maybe with a little luck someone might even have the source code for you two to check it out.
