Hi.
I installed BW a couple days ago and have been playing on iCCup. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find games with other people.
I read that servers such as Brainclan and Fish are much more active. I know that these servers have much better players than iccup, but I also read they have a good amount of people who are bad.
It's hard for me to know my actual skill level at the moment because I haven't found many games. I don't see myself being better than D+ on iccup.
I'd like to play more games. Which server is the most active at the moment with the greatest variation in skill level? Language barrier doesn't matter to me- I'll just learn basic Korean if need be.
Thanks!

Fish has far more people and its easy to find lower level games at any time of the day. If you're D+, I'd recommend sticking to hosting melee games instead of ladder. Ladder pretty much requires around a C/C+ just to not fall into failure range and then its hard to find games on ladder. Melee users are usually around the D/D+/C- range.

QFT.
Look up the guide on how to connect to the korean gateways and get going. You'll need 30 melee games before you can ladder on fish if you want to try it.

Fish. Ladder requires like a C rank to play, sometimes a C-. Mellee games as mentioned above has a lower ranking of about D/D+. But they'll know builds and stuff so don't expect easy wins.
ICCup is practically dead nowadays, and you'll only really find UMS games now :/

I seem to find games quite easily on ICCUP whenever I log on, granted I don't play very much

Iccup is far from dead. Cheers!

i host on iccup, hit me up at buffnuggler

If someone made a "hands on" map pack that would be the same map files that people most commonly use on fish, that would be great(so as to not get kicked instantly when joining games) And perhaps after that - a full instantly playable fish starcraft client, kind of like the iccup one, that could be spread around on message boards as propaganda to gather more players.

are you having problems to play in iccup? can you host a game or just join? if you can create a game you should find a game before 1-3min, iccup it's not that dead

As others have mentioned, if you have your ports forwarded and can host on iCCup, at the D levels you'll have someone join in at most a few minutes. When I was watching my friend Nagisama practice, people would be joining his games within 10 seconds.

Yeah I've never had any problems getting a game on iCCup, although I generally host rather than join other people's games.

Iccup you never have a problem trying to find D/D+/C- level games during the day on weekends, don't know about weekdays or nights. Fish is the best place to get into SC:BW. Like everyone said, melee is where the D level is at, C is where ladder actually starts.

There are several posts on TL that link to the maps used by Fish players and you can get the official maps from here

It's easy to find games at D level on iCCup, and after you make your way up to C/-C, then you can consider Fish. There are definitely more players there, but the learning curve is even steeper than iCCup.

Agreed. If you can host, most people join within a couple of seconds. Though I guess it depends on the time of day...

I've never not had any problems getting a game on iCCup...and I can host. It can easily take 20+ minutes if you're not at D'ish levels. Post C most games are found through channel messages, and if you have a good record a lot of people dodge, too. Finally, if you lag with koreans and chinese, you're pretty much screwed at B'ish ranks, playing same people over and over.

Fish server is the only server, if you're a noob just play about 350 melee games before trying to ladder. Then after you start laddering, ask for aid and watch all your replays to see what they are doing vs what you are.

If you only started playing BW a couple days ago, then D+ is almost certainly not going to happen. If you're just starting, expect D-/E. Unless you play Protoss. You could get B- then.
