If I was nostalgic, I would say that Command & Conquer is the best, because that's what I grew up with. But I'm not nostalgic, BW is just the best real time strategy game that has ever existed. I got in to it in 2009. Please don't tell yourself that the reason people dislike SC2 is because of nostalgia. It's because we think the game, based on its own timeless merits, is a piece of shit compared to Brood War, and it replaced Brood War.
We can argue forever about shitty games and non-shitty games etc.
But looking at it from your side, isn't there a chance the BW players would help to make the game better with their play?
And who knows what Hots is gonna bring.

To be honest, i don't think arguments and discussions like this are ever gonna do anything. He's made his decision already, and no guy posting counterarguments on the internet is going to sway him from that. I too hope that HotS brings improvement, but i'm already pretty happy with sc2 anyway. I'm excited for the future and what that may bring, but it's kinda sad seeing it's pedigree dying a little bit.

Why would BW players make SC2 better? Flash is just going to play SC2 better than other people, and beat them. He will still be doing it in SC2.
If SC2 becomes as good as SC1 in the future, then I'll be happy. Until then, I won't.

Yeah... it's actually not. Destiny is like 0.01% of the sc2 community so you don't need to worry.
Reading this thread, I see a lot of people practically suicidal over BW "dying", but looking at their join date, it's so obvious they came here after SC2 came out. It's sad to see so many people being so fake.
Anyway, I myself am pretty disappointed that BW seems to be going away, but in a way, it was to be expected. After all, every game gets replaced by another game eventually, whether you like it or not. I used to be an avid q2 player (best FPS ever, by far), only to have it pretty much replaced by horrible FPS games that to this day rule the FPS "eSports scene".
But anyway, I started playing the original SC1 one day after it came out in the US. Living in Croatia, that was actually a big deal because, in those days, we had a pretty big lag for games arriving (probably a month or two at least, depending on the game). I just got lucky and had a family member in NYC leaving for Croatia on the day the game opened. To this day it's probably my favorite game of all time, and I have very fond memories of it... I also made some lifelong friends playing Broodwar. Anyway, I played quite a lot on b.net and customs over modem when b.net was too laggy up to about when WC3 came out. During that period, it wasn't really possible to follow the Korean scene in a meaningful way from Croatia, since Internet connections weren't up to the task of downloading many-megabyte VOD-s. I remember getting a few VOD-s from a friend and rewatching them over and over. I started following the Korean scene probably around 2006 or 2007, but not religiously or anything. I'm a big Zerg fanboy so I'd watch most of the Zerg games, and mostly skip the rest.
When SC2 beta came around, I actually started following BW more than ever... I think I watched pretty much every broadcast game last year. The fact that it's ending really does suck, but all these mindless SC2 bashing is really pathetic, to be honest. In fact, when I started playing the beta, I know right away it had the "it" factor, just like Broodwar did. I'm not going to counter the "arguments" against it that you see in these kinds of threads because that's just a waste of time. But believe me when I tell you, it's a great game, and it's just going to get better. In fact, out of SC1, WC3 and SC2 vanilla, SC2 is by far the best. Expansions have made both SC1 and WC3 so much better, and there's really no reason to expect that the SC2 expansions will make it worse. So my advice to you, if you're a BW fan, give it a chance... watch a big tournament or two. The gameplay we're seeing now is so much better than what you might have seen a year ago. Even though it's a lot easier on many levels than BW, it's also harder in other ways in the sense that you have to do things that are literally impossible to do in BW due to it's mechanics. The skill ceiling is still insanely high and we've been seeing more and more great games played. With the BW pros switching, this will probably be the single most competitive game in history, and the prospect of that seems very exciting.

Looking at it from an almost exclusively BW spectator, no it's not very likely. Unless completely revolutionary micro tricks are discovered (much like mutalisk micro), colossi deathballs, 1a banelings, etc will never come even close to being the spectacle that were reaver drops, lurker spread/spine dodging, vulture moving shots, mine disarming, and countless other micro tricks. Hell, the game engine actually specifically removed or artificially simplified what easily could have been something really cool to watch. You can't stack mutas, the only units that could shoot while moving now do it automatically, and practically nothing's possible to dodge. This has all been brought up before but with the direction that blizzard's been moving with the game (a focus more and more on macro than tight micro tricks) it's not likely that SC2 will come even close to the glory that is brood war.

Sure, check my TL.net join date.. Because obviously I havnt been lurking this site forever, and only joined recently to voice my disspleaser with BW being swept under a rug.. Obviously because I just recently joined TL.net I havnt played Starcraft/BroodWar for 14 years.. good deduction buddy.

I was there for the 56k starcraft1 games.. back before aZn. was a dominate clan on battle.net.. Back when rushing carriers was just awsome and why would you do anything different? O because 200/200 golaith ((before people realized Marines were the shyt against carriers)) back when siege tanks could fire half way across the freakin map ((not literally, but it felt like it alot)).. I played Sc2 in beta also, but unlike you, i wasnt able to find an IF factor.. I still played Sc2 untill recently, and I stopped because I cant stand seeing the Sc2 community snub their noses at Sc:Bw, as if Sc:Bw did nothing for them.. You can say im being asinine and baseless all you want, but lurk threw the pages in the broodwar section that mention Sc2, and you will see Sc2 players trolling like mad..
Im a Sc:Bw fanboy4Life, because I have put 14+ years into this game, and I dont have any room left for something else.. If Sc:Bw does absolutly die, i will still play it from time to time, but I will probley give up competitive gaming all together.. Im at that age were Im going to be quitting regardless, 24 years old I should be doing more with my life, than spending hours playing a game((competitivly or not)).. So why not go out with Sc:Bw.. Best 14+ years of my life..
I will always remember that day I went to my neighbors house and saw his older brother playing the most bad ass game I have ever seen in my life, only to go home to try convincing my dad to get it, and realize he was playing it also..I was hooked from first sight, and fate had my dad already buy it, so when i got home that day, i could start my Sc ((then later Bw)) life..

Don't bring out the HOTS card because it doesn't mean anything. People act like its somehow going to change SC2 so that it becomes an excellent game overnight but the truth is that unless they totally overhaul the game, there is still going to be deathballs, wimpy micro, and uninteresting ingame battles. A mod doesn't fix these things.

If I was nostalgic, I would say that Command & Conquer is the best, because that's what I grew up with. But I'm not nostalgic, BW is just the best real time strategy game that has ever existed. I got in to it in 2009. Please don't tell yourself that the reason people dislike SC2 is because of nostalgia. It's because we think the game, based on its own timeless merits, is a piece of shit compared to Brood War, and it replaced Brood War. We can argue forever about shitty games and non-shitty games etc. But looking at it from your side, isn't there a chance the BW players would help to make the game better with their play? And who knows what Hots is gonna bring. Don't bring out the HOTS card because it doesn't mean anything. People act like its somehow going to change SC2 so that it becomes an excellent game overnight but the truth is that unless they totally overhaul the game, there is still going to be deathballs, wimpy micro, and uninteresting ingame battles. A mod doesn't fix these things.

Broodwar didn't change the mechanics of the game. Unit collision remained the same, the way hold position and patrol still worked the same, ai remained the same, magic boxes remained the same, the only things were new units that patched holes in each race's toolset. Broodwar did not make reavers suddenly require a lot of micro.
