SC2 is BORING to watch/play for most of the BW fans, forcing us to watch it will make us like it even less.
The only thing that might attract BW viewers to SC2 would be Boxer/Nada/July competing again, not the game itself. I'm not sure it's as clearcut as this. I remember when JP McDaniel was interviewing Hwanni, Hwanni basically said that the lack of interest is due in large part to hearsay. I don't know though.

Even though they haven't given a single fuck about the foreign market for years, it looks like that's starting to change.

For me it's always been about the gameplay first.
1080p+ SC2 is nice to watch, but without the unit bars and shit, I couldn't for the life of me tell you how many zerglings are running in on that unprotected expo.
For me it doesn't matter what year it is. If the gameplay is incredible I have a hard time believing people cannot get into it.
I would avoid generalizations. I don't believe it's as significant as you believe it is. One of the reasons BW was so successful was the fact that anyone could play it. You should have seen the PC I started playing SC on. It was the biggest piece of shit and it could run the game smoothly. Likewise, that's how the Korean market felt too. B.Net was free, the game could run on any machine and the gameplay was fun as fuck.
The fact that SC2 has a bit lower skill cap makes it more appealing to a wider audience. In general, people want to watch professional matches of a game that they not only play, but that they can play reasonably competitively. I'm convinced that BW's high skill cap discourages a lot of people from playing the game, and thus watching professional matches. (at least for foriegners) Sure anyone can play it, but it takes a significant investment of time and effort to be able to play it well.
LoL also has a lower skill cap, and since it's free it has an absolutely massive player base. Again, people want to watch professional matches for games they actually play, thus the very rapidly growing professional scene for LoL.
While BW may be the better game in terms of skill cap and viable strategies, those very things reduce it's presence as an Esport outside of Korea. The graphics don't help either.
People also need to remember that SC2 is still a young game, it took years for the community to form BW into an Esport through custom map design and map balance. There's some interesting things going on right now with 6 mineral bases and community maps being added to the ladder. HotS is also a major variable here; if the new units are well designed we may get a very good game. If the new units are exactly the same ones we saw at Blizzcon, we might as well throw the game in the trash.

After such a high from the OSL news, then I get this :<<<<< >ACE match rotations, still rumors but the idea is ZZZZZZZ I hope the organizers see this reaction and not implement this style.

Been a fan and watched pro bw since about 2005 or so and I think it's a cool idea. I guess it's a possibility the level of play might drop in bw but..I'm not gonna lie even if they're not great it'd be awesome/hilarious to see flash/bisu/jaedong playing sc2 matches. That'd be entertaining as hell.

OGN has an English LoL stream. They want foreign viewers.

I have a feeling that if this happens it will be mainly B teamers or something who play sc2 matches. I just don't see jaedong/bisu/flash or any of the top top tier bw players playing sc2 just yet.
I don't think this is as bad as a lot of people in this thread suggests but I am not to surprised at the negative reaction, I am just glad they aren't removing bw or anything and am kind of excited for this

I wonder if this will happen, and if it does, how it will turn out. I do think it's kinda sad, but if it is going to happen, I hope it works out

Ok, they do give a single shit, but that has nothing to do with the reasoning behind this rumored proposition. This is clearly targetted at getting Korean fans to transition and not to pander to foreign fans (BW or SC2).

Makes sense, they like money..... why wouldn't they be interested in a wider audience? Maybe they've just waited until the market was big enough for them to make an entrance. Businesses enter new markets everyday.
People just state emphatically that they don't care about the foreign market..... and don't even give a reason.
They don't care about the foreign BW market, because there isn't one.
Its a business, its runs on numbers and market data, not feelings and subjective BS about which game has a higher skill cap. GOM showed there is a 2.5M market for it right now.

I'm intrigued, but skeptical =/

i'm an optimist here...maybe showing both games will make apparent what sc2 lacks and therefor make it better?
i'm not for mixing two games in a set, but rather i'd like to see sc2 grow up to be a worthy game to replace bw one day.

And I'm pretty sure this annoucement has very little to do with foreign viewers.

This doesn't make much sense. If they had two separate Proleagues and showed them on alternating days with cross advertising and cross-hype, that would make sense.
You could even allow the same players to compete in the two tournaments. But keep them separate. You don't have DOTA and LoL games alternating back and forth for the same tournament nor do you have Counterstrike and Halo games alternating back and forth for the same prize.
I vote there should be a third way to demonstrate their skills for the prize. Break Dancing. We could have judges and everything and all for the same tournament prize. More like a triathlon. Or make it a decathlon and throw in a bunch more RTS, MOBA, and even FPS games. I hope this is just a dumb rumour.

Haha I thought about shit like this before, I thought it'd be cool in a showmatch or something. But seriously, as a regular format? What were they smoking?

Alternating between the two games does not make sense and would confuse a lot of people who only like one game or the other..

Oh, and there might be some SC2 players pilfered from the B-teams of existing SC2 teams, if what Nestea is correct in what he said in an interview several months ago.
The fanboy in me believes that Flash can probably dominate in SC2 or BW Zerg or BW Protoss if he felt like it since he is God, but even Gods have their limits (or do they????).
