he gets that. he is talking about the general sc2 viewer. we bw people love the 2d of beedub, but the general sc2 viewer is gonna say, "wtf".

As BW folks are fond of saying, everyone who was going to switch to SC2 already has. I'm not sure if that's true since SC2 has slowly improved, but there are still a LOT more SC2 fans with the potential to be interested in BW than the reverse. This is going to pretty significantly increase BW viewership, and a good chunk of those SC2 fans watching are going to like BW, and be more interested in the idea of paying to see an OSL.
It's cheesy and silly because it's a massive ad campaign for BW. SC2 -> BW is a far more difficult transition than the other way around. Like it or not the graphics are extremely dated and that alone is enough to put off most SC2 fans. I don't see this bringing many new fans to BW at all.
I disagree. Most SC2 fans are of drinking age, in prime hipster condition :D
There's enough potential gain to make it worth a half-season experiment. If the merger is permanent, now, that's just kind of stupid, but I could see this working.

Most of the people who follow BW like the graphics(As do it) Do to the fact they are simple, clean and easy to follow whats going on.

I'd like to ask why you guys think this is being done to increase BW viewership?

I agree its personal preference. But if the graphics are so bad, you might as well be watching chess. 1080p starcraft is a sight to behold..... and its like chess from a strategic level.
Chess is just as intricate as starcraft.... with even less visuals.
The point is.... its 2012 man.... why settle for less? We have the technology... enjoy it
So, while I agree, it can merely be considered a preference, the MARKET has shown it to be a significant one for acquiring new viewers.
Simply put..... your preference is in the minority I'm sorry <3

This is a horrible idea. Don't mix two different games with two different sets of fans.

Really, we couldn't care a shred less.

I like both games actually. I prefer BroodWar but I like SC2 as well, just not nearly as much. The main reason I watch Proleague is so I can watch the players I like playing BroodWar. I just don't want SC2 mixed in there.

I think you underestimate them. Hang out on the SC2 forums long enough, and you'll notice how much "more like BW" is used to mean "good"
Like this thread here, which argues that bases should have fewer mineral patches to bring the mining rates closer to BW. This is a really popular thread that even been received warmly by Blizzard employees, and you'll note the argument is "BW did it, and BW > SC2, so SC2 should do it to". It's a good argument.
SC2 fans don't really think SC2 > BW. They think it's slowly closing the gap, and that HotS will close the gap a lot, and then by LotV, the gap will be mostly closed. "Give it time" isn't just a lame argument used in SC2 vs BW fights, it's the actual SC2 fan mindset. We feel SC2 is slowly but notably moving in the direction of BW. If the two games stop being rivals and fighting all the time, I think a lot of SC2 fans would give BW a second (or a first! A lot of SC2 fans never watched BW!) look.

It could be both. SC2 is hurting in Korea, and BW could use dem foreign monies. Bundling the two games helps dispel the 'SC2 IS TRYING TO KILL BW" idea. But SC2 isn't likely to gain much, while BW has more potential to win.

I guess the format could be improved if the 3rd set of the bo7 was soccer and the ace match was decided on Poweball.

I don't understand the motivations behind Kespa's switch to SC2. All indications are that BW is a bigger money generator in Korea, more fans and more sponsors. Korean BW teams pay salaries while SC2 teams just provide a practice environment. Hopefully someone with knowledge of the Korean scene can enlighten me.

Foreign money + the idea that SC2 could get big if KeSPA gave it a push.

I think it's more or less what media and society as a whole tells us. Better, more realistic graphics --> omfg we're in Heaven!
For me it's always been about the gameplay first.
1080p+ SC2 is nice to watch, but without the unit bars and shit, I couldn't for the life of me tell you how many zerglings are running in on that unprotected expo.
For me it doesn't matter what year it is. If the gameplay is incredible I have a hard time believing people cannot get into it.
I would avoid generalizations. I don't believe it's as significant as you believe it is. One of the reasons BW was so successful was the fact that anyone could play it. You should have seen the PC I started playing SC on. It was the biggest piece of shit and it could run the game smoothly. Likewise, that's how the Korean market felt too. B.Net was free, the game could run on any machine and the gameplay was fun as fuck.
Back on graphics and the social norm it has become in the industry whether it be the media or the developers telling you what you want.
I should make a test where I take screenshots of pivotal moments in SC2 and BW games a like and ask each community to identify who played who. Then again, the results might vary because the hardcore BW fans really know their shit. We've done this once before with them and they got a lot right.
I wonder if the SC2 community could match them with a high success rate. The samples would definitely be a little bit off. I could select the big guns in the SC2 community to try and counter it though to see if they could up it.

Only acceptable method to make this work is if Tasteless and Artosis are hired to cast this. Otherwise, no way this will take off to attract foreign audience.

I think you highly overestimate the possibility of foreign money flowing into Korean Broodwar.

Newsflash. OGN and KeSPA don't really give a shit about the foreign audience. Its about getting the Korean audience (largely BW fans) to transition into watching SC2. We're not really a part of the equation.

I was about to say the same thing.

This looks like a desperate move from Blizzard to save SC2 from certain death in Korea, and I don't think it is smart.
SC2 is BORING to watch/play for most of the BW fans, forcing us to watch it will make us like it even less.
The only thing that might attract BW viewers to SC2 would be Boxer/Nada/July competing again, not the game itself.
