To this date, nothing makes me more excited and happy than seeing Jaedong's 5 hatch hydra busts, or old VoD's of oOv v Julyzerg, or even watching semi-pro iCCup ladder games. I love everything about this game. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

+ Show Spoiler + Today, I noticed there were 20 something ppl in the Op Teamliquid channel. Naturally, one thing led to another, and voila, we had some Race Wars. For those of you who don't know what Race Wars is, it's basically, everyone goes random, and then you ally people of the same race. It's mad wicked fun, here is a battle report (from my perspective) of one of the games. The Contenders ![]() NyM)Pack (Brown) cobaltblu (White) elev3n (Orange) ![]() + Show Spoiler + ![]() blau_grana (Teal) herro_korea (Red) isuckatlife (Purple) ![]() Nazza131 (Blue) (Me) Garreeet (Yellow) The game starts off. Killing Fields is an imbalanced map made by Blizzard, and is 256 x 256 big. In other words, it's FRICKING HUGE. I'm already off to a great start. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Killing_Fields I meet my one and only Zerg ally. I also scout around and see some T's around. I love Brood War for the hilarious Battle Reports made by gamers across the world. I love Brood War just for the sole reason that it has gamers across the world. American foot ball? That's nothing. Brood war is where it's at!

I Love it for the skill involved. For the game. For the meta game. For trends, mistakes, overloading pressure, overloading tasks. I Love the buggy AI, the mastery over it. I Love high ground miss chance. I Love the Reaver. I Love storm drops. I Love seeing the loss on 1 drone in a ZvZ. I Love the amount of energy, time, and passion put into something that I think is ranked up there as ONE of the things with the highest skill ceiling possible where a human can still improve. I Love OSL Highlight Videos. I've watched ![]() I've watched ![]() I've watched ![]() ![]() I've felt the dread from watching certain builds. I've felt the nerd chills from watching impeccable timings. I've felt the passion of GG. I Love BroodWar.

Sadly, my older bro did not like it when I was in his room and to persuade him, I gave him my Halloween candy, Christmas candy, and Easter candy just to watch him play. In fact, all I would think about when getting candy during Trick or Treat was how long would the bag of candy last me? Go into the future 4 years, I finally bought the game and played it for the first time of my life. Oh my God was I a happy man. Then one year later, I saw the National Geographic documentary and I made my decision there. StarCraft is going to be the game I will play and never ditch. btw, I thought StarCraft had great graphics because my parents hated TV with a passion so we could not afford a console. When everyone was playing Halo 2, our family was still playing Crono Trigger and Seiken Densetsu and thought those were the coolest games ever made.

As a spectator, it's relatively easy to understand the brilliance of the progamers.

I personally look back most fondly upon the 2001-2006 era, where there werent hundreds of able gamers, there were, really, only a dozen or so pioneering names, each with their own special strengths and weaknesses. From this cluster of elite players, each player brought their own brand of play. For a teenaged-me, it was the coolest thing ever and I was enchanted by it all, the rivalries, the stories, the drama... I hated each of these guys with a passion for all the times they let me down and loved them in turn for all the times they rose to the occasion against the odds: Boxer's status as the undisputed revered icon of progaming Yellow, every romantic's favourite who was as brilliant as he was flawed Reach playing the lone Protoss hope one Z/T infested Starleague after another Nada's perfect execution of Terran macro-play Kingdom winning games with his first zealot and scouting probe Nal_rA and his endless catalogue of radical strategies Rainbow, whose games hinged entirely around the success of his reaver harassment July taking Zerg to a new level with his mutalisk and lurkerling micro Xellos and his scary ability to beat anyone on his day, the badass leader of SUMA G.O. iloveoov's meteoric rise from nowhere and playing like he was 5 years ahead of everyone Anytime's glorious "legend of the fall" royal road beating all the household names as a rookie Pusan's hilariously blunt macro play Savior's uncanny invincibility as a complete player I'll never forget all the times I sat in front of my computer and got shivers down my spine from watching a bunch of people, who no one knew but me, playing a game, which no one played but me.. It's fucking special and I'll always be so proud to have followed it from beginning to end even though it's something I could never explain to my family or my closest friends- in fact, it's all the more special for it.

While none of us are strangers to controlling animated characters or wandering through virtual worlds, we do know that for a game to be truly great, it must capture a generation. Indeed, for a game to be great it must enthral and entertain, drawing you in and shutting the world out. The best games you play not because you can, but because you must. Starcraft was one of those games, a title that transcended bytes and packets and moved into a sphere that was hitherto out of reach. From ICCUP to the OSL, this is a game that bridges languages, continents and prejudices. Starcraft, a game that could have been just another rts, showed us one thing. Something good can beget something better. The game, make no mistake, is a legend. Its true power however lies not in its finely tuned balance or the skill it requires at the highest level. No, Broodwar's strength is the sum of its players. You. Me. Us. We made this game. With ladder play and forum posts and guides and VODs and uploads and downloads and hundreds of thousands of man hours that will never be measured, we forged it. For more than seven years, Team Liquid brought us together, giving us the best of Professional Starcraft and in the process creating the most far reaching, vibrant and influential ESPORTS community on the planet. Warcraft 3 came and went. CNC3, Dawn of War, RA3 - all games, but indeed, not games. They entertained for a while, they created competition for a while, but when all was said and done, they were not Starcraft. Not Starcraft: Broodwar.

![]() He was the first true brotoss, the one that created the style of manly tossness that now resides in all brotosses (Esp. Reach). Man, I loved to see him burst out with those units and destroy zergs left and right.
