The problem solving The creativity The self expression The MAGNIFICENCE

I love it because it's so difficult to master! I admire the dedication and skill korean progamers possess when it comes to BroodWar. Just to be good at the mechanics takes a lot of effort, but on top of that executing elaborate and micro-intensive strategies perfectly while playing mind games with the opponent is just mind-boggling!

I got into broodwar after playing SC2 so sorry if my reasons are noobish. First thing that i loved about bw was "wtf, no deathball vs deathball battle, sweet!". Then i got to see firebathero's first person in-game view and was mesmerized (also dizzy) by how fast these guys are. Suddenly sc2 pros looked like clowns, lol. And then i started watching Sayle's casts and became a Khan fanboy though he doesn't seem to like grape, brave and bisu that much? Sayle quickly became my favorite caster because you can tell he's genuinely excited about the game, no cheap commercial hype and his objective unbiased view on the game balance makes a lot of sense. I think broodwar is the most demanding game skill and practice wise and it shouldn't die out in favor of easier games. Also hope Sayle will keep casting, grapes just wouldn't taste the same

i just love broodwar. Words fail me to explain how i feel. I can agree to everything you guys said here( that i read) and there is still probably more. But certain stuff about the brilliance of broodwar just became clear to me when i started playing it again after playing sc2 for a good deal of time. In BW i always know why i loose or win, in sc2 i sometimes don't. its either the perfect vortex or it isnt. The rest of the game nearly doesnt matter. In sc2 30 minute games are often decided by a split second mistake. I love about BW that it rewards the better play in the course of the whole game much more. I love that the usage of certain units is more fun and challenging. Compare a reaver with a Colossus. Or a Carrier with a tempest. I love that strategy is actually deeper and that the game is less volatile on pro level. The better player just wins more often then in sc2. But thats just striking to me from comparing the games. It's about what i love about BW for me and not about what sc2 falls short off. At least not anymore though it bugged me a long time.

There is nothing much left to say, everyone else has already given their reasons why BW was such a fantastic game. So I will leave this here, for everyone to think about it:
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
