There were several ICCUP like German only servers back then (FSGS server, DEF team server and others). It was a very fun time indeed. It was only with WGT that the scenes started mingling much more! That's when ToT recruited Ovvi and WiLLet (I think those were the first international recruits), and later Ret, Testie, Sen, etc. I think Mondragon has actually been around for much longer then Sen, so I don't get why people always mention them both in the same sentence in terms of old-school-ness. He was actually unbelievably young back then! I think he was like 12 or 13 when I first met him. That's maybe also why he didn't compete in the first WCGs... But he was already recognized as a very talented player. We used to have these IRL clan meetings (something like 80 people LANs) which he always won although he was only 12 years old He used to be [PL]Mondragon back at the start and was the student of the great [PL]Kalaschni (one of Germany most famous Zergs). He didn't compete in too many tournaments, but he was definitely one of the top 10 players in Germany relatively early. Of course he was overshadowed by the Marquis, DEF, Oger and FA people at the time (Kosh, Korn, Fisheye, Kalaschni, Adu and others). But he surpassed them and used to be the only guy who could compete with Fisheye from 2002/2003 onwards.I would also like to mention that he has a phenomenal record in both clanwars and nation wars. In 2004-2008 times he won like 80% of his games 2-0. He was _by_far_ the most consistant player in both ToT and team Germany. Sometimes I feel like people have a different understanding of the word oldschool now. They seem to have forgotton the 1999-2002 years, because people now haven't been around back then ![]() Edit: Here is his GER-Team record: http://starcraft2.ingame.de/gerteam/old/statsdetails.php?sid=1&name=Ger-Mondragon I was just having this convo with chill how sen isnt as oldschool as people are making it seem edit- comparing mondi to nada is saying mondi is the greatest foreigner of all time . To still be able to compete even out of your prime. I guess he could be compared to him

I actually stopped playing during 2000 (played from late 2008) and Mondragon was already a known player in the scene back then. I never believed it when people said he was like 13. He wasn't the best player at the time, Fisheye was starting tearing things up, Kosh was really good, and Iron beat Grrrr... at a live event in munich (Pretty sure it was called PGL Germany), although it was just a showmatch. But yeah, Mondragon is really really oldschool.

lol this made me rofl. good humor :D mondragon and nada respectively had played their part in their own culture (meaning nada-->korean scene and mondi-->foreign), so comparatively yes, he is almost like nada in the korean scene. plus he's zerg :D fuckin awesome

I think you're missing the point, people are comparing Mondi to Nada because he has been always there since the dawn of time a force to be afraid of, the consistent player. Iloveoov could hardly be considered consistrnt..

This has stupidity written all over it. Ironic. Nada is the most consistent progamer of all time. Go check out how long he's been in the top 30 of pro starcraft; I think the record is longer than almost any other player's entire career. Not to mention he's the only real OLD progamer still playing competitively.
