And the second one (if I got the description right) could be a result of an accidental splash of chemicals when the film was developed (so it was actually "dipped").

"I have on a number of occassions seen apparitions and raw deformed faces much like what you would see from a typical asian horror flick. ..... Luckily I do not believe in ghosts and therefore concluded that they were manifestations of my own physical/mental state, they were hallucinations." A person who is blind since birth: "I have on a number of occassions "seen" flashes of light at night in my bed much like in a scary dream. ..... Luckily I do not believe in visible light and therefore concluded that they were manifestations of my own physical/mental state, they were hallucinations." I could think of a lot of possibilities for the phenomena in the pictures ranging from likely (picture editing, causes due to chemical reactions during development (see wikipedia)) to very unlikely causes. You said you have done enormous amount of research without a good answer. Perhaps because nobody really knows. All i'm saying is that being open minded is really comforting for your own mind. It causes you to not freak out when you see something you cant explain. "Ghosts" that people are talking about do not necessarily have to be supernatural or going against christianity or anything. They as easily could be undiscovered phenomena in nature, or even glimpses of undetectable lifeforms for all we know. Just be openminded like the blind person who has to accept that others have this misterious fifth sense they call sight. And the original Shutter was so cool btw.

It was obviously someone, maybe a stranger, maybe a friend of theirs they met there. The fact that its features are indistinguishable is not really that unusual: it was a sunny day, and if he was wearing very dark clothes they would appear much darker on film due to the camera exposure setting. You can actually try it yourself if you've got a camera: put something dark on a very light background next to something light. If your camera is set to automatic exposure, it will set the exposure (i.e. the time that the shutter stays open) so that on average the scene is properly lit, but the average of this scene is going to be very light. Because the dark object reflects much less light, it will become underexposed and look almost black, except for the light parts (e.g. the eyes) Or, if you manually put the exposure setting so that the dark object is properly exposed, then the rest of the scene will become too white (overexposed). His face could be black because he was very dark-skinned, he was wearing a baseball hat that cast a shadow on his face, he was wearing face paint, or a million of other reasons. Or, alternatively, the guy who was developing the pictures was a joker and overlaid this figure from another film. It was quite doable even in the 90s.

Of course, that's also my view regarding religion, but let's not start all that. Yea, I realise I'm not really contributing much here other than tossing out more annoying questions and ambiguations, but what I'm trying to do here is to ask you to consider some unknown mundane factor rather than jumping to supernatural conclusions. That beign said, I loved the Fatal Frame game series. <3

Film itself is prone to have defects sometimes - if the weird images look chemically suspect it could be the film has a faulty spot on it or the paper printed on has a faulty spot on it too. Film itself is susceptible to thermal damage in this way. The second photo you mentioned (the one in front of the temple) sounds more like ghosting. The other one could be too; dunno. What you've got to consider when you investigate this phenomenon is how many photos get taken in front of temples/cemeteries/spiritual places which never show up this sort of thing. Thousands - 10's of thousands even. 1 or 2 really weird photos in the middle of tens of thousands means that it's unlikely to be a viewing into some spiritual realm and more likely a fluke of the printing process. It's like this: I routinely walk under lights in the street that blow out just as I walk underneath them. This is a freaky occurrence. But then I walk under 10's of thousands of lights which don't blow out - but I never notice them. Lights which are on all night every night and have a lifetime of a few months should blow out - if I walk under 1000 lamps in one night I should expect 1 to go out, right?

The human brain is trained and developed to recognize the shape of a face or a silhouette even if the matter is vague at best. That way we say faces in clouds for instance. There are many pictures. Trough randomness, weird shapes form on them. Some of those shapes are recognized as a face or silhouette. This is like the thousand-monkeys-type-the-complete-work-of-shakespear: eventually you will see a picture with the shape of a face or silhouette, because you see a lot of pictures in your lifetime.

"for advice about ghosts: either ask TL netizens or ask a christian"? neither of these view points is probably going to get you anywhere. i suggest you go to a daoist temple and speak with some of the monks there. daoist priests/monks/mages are quite intense and their understanding of the supernatural goes deep. i am also in tune with the spirit realm but only slightly. i cannot see the energy (qi) but i can feel it with an extra sense. to be in touch with spiritual energy takes both natural aptitude and conscious honing of the sense. it takes practice. humankind is a mixture of water, carbon, and the memories of lives past and future. some people have stronger connections with their past lives and even future ones (as we know time is not linear, and the future affects the past just as much as the past affects the present). regarding your photos. light is energy, energy flows in currents, currents can be altered by amplifiers such as the touched (viz, people with the sixth sense) or in areas with high concentrations of qi (e.g. near trees, water, intense sunlight). also, psychic energy can either work for or against you. if you close your eyes and see heinous, ghastly images it is because you are harboring woe. if you always notice the frightening it is because you are frightened. this sounds like a tautology and it is.

FATAL FRAME (PS2 Original)) was %#$^#%%% scary, I traded the game in the next day. Once I walked into the hall and a spirit just zooms by down the hall give me nightmares, this was during the day with other people watching too. And I still remember the pause screen is creepy too, bloody handprints appear randomly on the screen.

Yeah I agree, those games were awesome, I remember when I was trying to take photos of that damn ghost that was chasing after me only to find out you have to run away from it because you can't kill it (yet). Number 3 got a little more spooky when things start to cross over into real life.

B) Light has very distinct properties apart from being "energy". Why does energy always flow in currents? How do the touched interact with the currents? I'm curious :/
