Why do religious christians shake? I mean like, they're just there worshipping and then suddenly they start to shake like crazy. Some of them might drop to the floor and start moving very awkwardly, as if they're having a seizure of some sort.

I was sitting there at the church and a christian man (he's a built-up personal trainer, but somewhat a little feminine) approached me and saw me sitting way back there. He slowly approached me, with his hands shaking, he was walking as if he had just been hit by a car or something, and said that it was better for me to be up there and stuff, not back here. I said no, and that I was alright. Well, I think I pissed him off, he started praying for me, shaking, and suddenly starts screaming real loud that I needed to be set free, and that the demons get out of my body and shit. I didn't know where to dig my face in the soil so I just sat there like nothing was going on. Then he started to demand me that I lift up my hands and that I speak in tongues telling me "repeat after me" I simply told him that I had to go film (I film at that church). He just put a face like I was the fucking devil himself and left back to the front laughing... and shaking like crazy.

I'm starting to think the people that shake at my church are into drugs of some sort, or maybe something else. I don't really know.

Not only that, some people that are in that mood as well go up to the pulpit and start saying "prophecies" and demanding people to do stuff. I've been going to that church for almost 5 years and I've never seen anything they say is going to happen, actually happen.

Don't get me wrong. The church itself is a marvelous place, it's just certain extremist individuals who want to take control of it that spoil it like that. I'm a christian myself and I will always be, but I don't agree with their 500% religious pieces of shit. To me, God is someone real, not just some fucking man-made religion.

Where in the bible does it say that we need to bow our heads and close our eyes to pray? Where does it say that EVERY FUCKING PRAYER has to be a demand from us to God about something? (that's all they do) As far as I know, Jesus didn't do praying campaigns to make something happen, he just spoke it and it was done. No rainbows, no little butterflys, no little bunnies, no fucking ornaments, HE JUST SAID IT AND IT WAS DONE. PERIOD.

I'm getting tired of these bunch of retards that are always wanting to control me and my family, with the most ridiculous shit I've ever heard in my life.

I can actually relate to this. Personally, I am also a Christian, but some "Christians" seem to just destroy the entire image of it. One example would be those preachers in college campuses. They go around yelling "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL!" How does that help anything? It is almost unChristian in itself, yet they do it because they are complete extremists, who I think don't even understand what they preach. There is nothing wrong with trying to share your religion, but the crazy extremists drive me crazy.
In response to the people who only demand things from God, I agree with you as well. What I feel is that some people are being Christian, not for the religion, not for the ideas, but for the happy feeling that they get. They are Christian when they need some help, and want to leech from the Church, or society as a whole, but when everything is going well, then where are they to help other people? Christianity is not just a tool to make your life better, and that is what aggravates me about how some people abuse it.
Just as a side note, I have no problem with people who don't follow this, but for the people who pretend to, that is just worse. It actually makes more sense to have people who actually are Atheists or Agnostics to actually identify themselves with what they really are, not to try and pass off as fake Christians. Then again, this is just a rant. Can't really hold this against them and then excommunicate them, because that, in itself, is hypocritical.

Can I ask you a serious question? Why do you identify yourself as Christian?

You already said yourself that quite a lot of the things the religion is built upon is bullshit. Do you believe that to believe in God you have to be a Christian or something?

This post confuses me.

I'm not a "christian" that's just a mundane term used by men to identify those who believe in what we believe in. I believe God is real and I try my best to follow what he said to us in the bible, and I'm real with it. There are no ornaments, games, made-up ideas, and things like that for me.

I just said I was a Christian to avoid confusion.

Self-induced hysteria. People believe that they're supposed to shake, speak in tongues, etc, believe that God's making them do it, and so they start to do random crazy shit.

I'm attending a Christian school (Anglican I think? idk) and we have this prayers every morning and chapel service every friday fortnightly. I'm not Christian, but I think just praying quietly every morning is pretty nice. But when I see people doing like what the OP mentioned and being too extreme, they're just ruining the image of Christianity. Which is why some of the people around me have negative impressions on the religion, saying they are 1) too extreme or 2) too aggressive (as in, goes around pressuring people in the public to convert religion/join blah blah church/etc).

Yeah. People can worship however they want. I will leave them in piece but nothing gets me madder then when some retard comes up to me and says: "YOUR RELIGION IS FALSE AND YOU'RE GOING TO HELL! QUICK! COME WITH ME IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE THE TRUE FEELINGS OF CHRIST!"

It's like. Dude. Shut the fuck up.

The sad thing is, my church has a few people who are exactly like that sometimes. My feelings now are, all Churches have fucking messed up people. Don't judge how one Church is based on how 1 person acts towards you. (Unless everybody in that Church acts the same way. Then you can judge accordingly.)
So wait? I'm bad? =(

I used to look at it as people just really getting into it, which seemed harmless to me, and probably strengthened their faith I guess. However, the way you described it it seems like they have ulterior motives, or at the very least are sometimes kinda being a dick about it.

There's a band that's taken "church" to the hardcore scene recently called Sleeping Giant; to all the kids who are really burned out on stuff like this. Read their lyrics

Back when I was a practicing and rather devout catholic, I saw this kind of thing happen as well.

In some youth conference thing (that was actually pretty fun, even despite my cynicism and growing disillusionment at the time), there was a point where there was some prayer session thing that was pretty interesting. Anyway, it got pretty intense (not in like the Jesus camp way, but like just in the atmosphere and your level of emotional involvement), and weird shit started happening. The whole shaking thing happened to various people, as well as LEGIT speaking in tongues, including several people whom I knew very well at the time. NONE of them were the types that would bullshit. I really can't and won't say whether it was truly God or if it were a product of the intensity of the stadium at that moment, but in any case, this kind of thing very definitely happens. It's also BS'd a lot, and I've seen that quite commonly as well.

At one point (I think two years ago?) I was at some retreat (I was at a low point in my spiritual/religious life)...I hadn't even signed up for this. Basically as soon as I came back home from college for the summer, my mom said she'd signed me up for a retreat and had already paid the registration/expenses fee...so I had no choice but to go.

They had a session thing where they would try to get you to speak in tongues or whatever...it was reeaaally interesting. Once again, the people in the room with were mostly people I either knew from before, or had gotten to know reasonably well over the course of the retreat...and none were the types that would BS this kind of thing; they were the types I could talk to and share stories about partying, drinking, drugs, rock music (lol jk), whatever other vices...blah blah blah. One girl started singing...like just notes (no words), but it was very fucking eerie...for the rest of the night, after that, she would randomly start singing without restraint, and unable to control that shit. It was weird.

Dudes who were in similar situations as me (forced to come, or guilt tripped by the nuns (the Korean nuns in my area are the nicest and most generous people you will meet...you just can't ever say not to them)), and who had the "too cool" state of mind started doing the whole tongues thing. One thing I noticed was that no two people really sound alike when they do that. It's generally considered to be abstract prayer...worshiping without words, in a sense. Once again, whether it's brought about by God, or whether it's a consequence of intense emotional involvement at that moment is something I'm not sure about myself.

As for me, the retreat had been quite a refresher, in religious terms. I was excited about being a Catholic for the first time in a while, and I was looking forward to that. I really tried my very hardest in that prayer session thing, and nothing ended up happening...apparently I collapsed or something: I had been sitting at one point, then found myself on the ground with someone placing a pillow underneath my head. I don't know to this day what happened.

Anyway, these are only two of several experiences I've had with such things. I don't consider myself a Catholic, or even a Christian now, but those and like experiences aren't something I can just forget and sweep under the rug.

I've been witness to many situations where such occurrences were obviously fake and/or bullshitted, but I assure you, those two I wrote about above were fucking real.

I consider myself an agnostic, right now (I don't think you can either prove or disprove a god entity), but still...those are trippy experiences to look back on.

EDIT
WOW, that's a long post...I hope it doesn't come across as preachy. I just don't want this type of shit to be immediately brushed off as fake shit that only super-hardcore jesus freaks do.

Thank you for that PH.

And I agree with you, sometimes it is real. But I'm thinking that the shaking and shit is something else.

My faith in God increased one day when I was very young, and ironically, it wasn't from an act of God himself.

I had a set of stolen by me Yu-Gi-Oh cards stacked and stored on top of my closet. I was the only person in the house throughout the 5 years I lived in it that could get up there. One day I started noticing that the cards were exactly as I left them, except for the fact that they were shuffled. Everyday.

I even once took a specific card and placed it on top of the stack, by the next day that same exact card it was in the middle.

I took that shit and threw it away in my neighbor's trashcan. Since then, I believe that Satan exists, and if he does, so must God.

This is a true story.

I remember reading a really interesting article about the body basically "losing control" in certain situations. Another scenario described in the article was about how religious folks cause people to pass out with hand touches or things of that sort. It seemed to boil down to self-induced hypnosis. I can't seem to find the article but if you're really curious search something like "religious hypnosis"

Yeah, that's probably the best explanation. I still think there's something beyond the purely natural that is responsible for it. It would take a powerful amount of mental energy to be able to do that, after all.
