I'l say it right now, there will be spoilers about the Kimbo fight, so don't read on if you don't want that spoiled.

What the fuck is with Kevin Ferguson(Kimbo) and Manny Gamburyan. Are both of these guys hard-headed when it comes to gameplan? or are they being trained this way? By now, anyone who is an MMA fan must have seen Seth Petruzelli's total spanking of Kimbo Slice. Now I am happy as hell the Kimbo Slice hype is put the rest (or at least slowed to a logically degree) because I think as an MMA fan, it was sickening to hear Jared and Gary Shaw talk about Kimbo as if he was anything more then a untested rookie heavyweight with heavy hands.

Now the reason I accuse Kimbo and Manny of being hard-headed or having shitty training is because in both of these two fighters last fights, they have done the same thing and it resulted in a knockout for their opponent in less then fifteen seconds. Let's go over what happened in both fights.

Manny Gamburyan:

Manny's fight is versus TUF5 competitor Rob Emerson. Now if you know anything about Rob Emmerson, it's that he has a decent standup and that's about it. He isn't a whiz at anything and to be completely honest, isn't a difficult opponent. Manny starts the match by running across the ring and throwing a looping hook, Emerson tags him with a shot and Manny goes down. Emerson follows up with four to five seconds of ground and pound and it's over. Now if you know Manny, it's no contest who has better skills. Manny has better hands and is very strong, his skill is Judo which leads to his next skill; his ground and pound. Due to the fact he can out-muscle you to keep you from getting up. Knowing this, is it a smart idea to charge across the cage, leaving yourself wide open with only the slight chance of knocking Emerson out with the crazy looping hook? No. Manny had this fight in the bag and Emerson's only shot was TKO or KO and his only chance to do this was before Manny would take him down.

Kevin Ferguson:

Kimbo starts the fight by bullrushing across the cage and by pressure, forcing Petruzelli's back against the cage. Kimbo gets hit with a front kick from Petruzelli and than as Petruzelli unloads another, Kimbo throws a hard hook that leaves his chin unprotected. During the second front kick, Petruzelli throws a weak jab that catches Kimbo on the button and he stumbles, Petruzelli follows up with looping hooks to:

1) One hit to the back of the head
2) shots to the shoulder
3) Kimbo's right ear
4) top of Kimbo's head
5) cheekbone

Kimbo falls straight to the ground and isn't defending himself at all. He rolls over, but the fight is already done. To show how out of it Kimbo was at this point, he attempted to single-leg takedown the referee, because he was so confused.

So what's my point? In Kimbo's case, hes a heavyweight, he weights in at ~235lbs. Seth Petruzelli is a small, virtually unknown light-heavyweight. Kimbo was the bigger and stronger man, but lost to Petruzelli because he didn't work a gameplan in any way. Same thing with Manny, he is two times the fighter Emerson is, but charging across the cage throwing a looping hook isn't a gameplan. I think that had both these fighters actually had some patience and looked for openings before throwing and worked to their advantages, both of these fights would have gone differently.

Any other MMA fans agree or disagree?

Kimbo was the bigger and stronger man, but lost to Petruzelli because he didn't work a gameplan in any way.

This is completely ignorant... He found out who his opponent would be at 9:00 pm and had a decision to fight or not. The risk was they knew nothing about Seth. Read your facts.

why cant you write up good shit like this in our monthly UFC posts and about good fighters

Anyways , anything can happen in MMA fights , but you can't argue that Kimbo is some great MMA fighter who just got caught. He is still unproven vs real competition, he got caught, if he was smart he would of felt Seth out for a little while. I'm amazed his corner wasn't telling him that.

There is a difference between Manny Gamburyan and Kimbo, weve actually seen Manny have different dimensions to his fighting skills and show he has skill all-around.

All we have seen Kimbo do is punch some extremely B-level fighters.

What everyone just saw was someone with MMA experience vs someone without. As Zeller said, not having any time for making a game plan, Kimbo should have felt him out a little. He will learn from this mistake. Seth, I have no idea who he is, so just congrats to him for his victory. He capitalized a mistake and opening Kimbo left open so obviously.
I do fear if Kimbo's chin is this weak, he will have some rough fights ahead of him.

You have got to be kidding me...

I always knew kimbo would get exposed as soon as he faught anyone even remotely legit, even though he didn't get to make a gameplay this scenario would have been the same wether it was short notice or not.

Kimbo is just a guy who can take a good punch all the time can give them, he's NOT a great MMA fighter.

You took what I said wrong. A lot of people say Chuck is a great fighter but he gets caught sometimes. I'm saying you can't make that argument for Kimbo, he's not a great fighter who just got caught. He got exposed from lack of experience.

Theres a diffrence between being a great fighter and getting caught and being a mediocre fighter and getting caught.

Chuck has been caught yes, but his record is alot more stellar than Kimbos. It's not even comparable.

How does this have to do with working a gameplan? They knew nothing about Seth, so bullrushing across the cage was warranted? That makes no sense. If anything this proves my point even more. If you don't know your opponent, you feel him out and get his timings. Perhaps YOU know nothing about MMA, but one of the first things you learn as a fighter is to time them, you gain knowledge throughout the fight.. I am aware that Kimbo was to fight Ken Shamrock and that he took the Petruzelli fight a couple hours before the main event, so don't tell me to read my facts.

Perhaps you should go back and watch Kimbo's previous fights versus Bo Cantrell, James Thompson, Tank Abbott and even Ray Mercer. He did the same fucking thing versus those men too; he runs across the cage, puts on a load of pressure within seconds and then starts throwing like a maniac. I don't think I've seen the man throw a jab yet, he throws nothing but power hooks.

My point was the same either way, the way both these fighters open and like to fight is absurd. If you serious about winning, you need to work a gameplan and no matter who it is versus (with exceptions) it should involve patience.

Ok I give up for some reason you can't understand that IM NOT PROMOTING KIMBO AS EVEN A MEDIOCRE FIGHTER. HE SUCKS IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH

Watching him fight is actually entertaining , just cuz its fun watching him smash shit fighters and to his credit he does have heavy hands. He's kind of like modern rappers, it's fun to dance to and some of it pumps you up in the gym, but as lyricists(or in kimbos case a mixed martial artist) they are completely garbage.

Kimbo never really seems to have a gameplan, he is an over glorified Heavy weight(kinda like Brock Lesnar) people talk like these guys are contenders .........not at all

Fedor
Nogueira
Josh Barnett
Silva (elite XC)
fedor's brother I cannot spell his name
Anderson silva(smaller but I think He would knock them

I would even put Crop cop before these guys

Don't forget Rocky (Seth Petruzelli). You better believe EliteXC is going to play up that angle.
