So i was bored and thought i'd write a blog about what is on my mind. And that is exactly what the title says! So some may know that I am tying the knot at the end of January and it has come to the time where i have to choose my wedding ring. At first i was like no big deal, ezpz right! But then my fiancee reminded me that i have to wear the damn thing!

So i started googling stuff, and looking around - i mean her dad's a jeweller so i pretty much can have anything i want, i just have to decide. So i have seen some pretty crazy designs - rings with little diamonds in them, and crazy criss cross designs, but it all just seems a little... too much.

So i really have no idea; it's pretty annoying that it is taking up my brain space over something like this, but i don't want a boring plain band. I was thinking something like this:

But without the ridges, so it is all flat - so shiney on the outside but matte in the middle. I don't know.

Well, this concludes a pointless blog - 10 e-points to whoever actually reads this thing lol

Check out this view :O top left is the sydney harbour bridge etc in the distance

Congratulations on getting married!

It seems like you'll want a little assistance from your fiancee and her father I guess just go with something that you'll be comfortable wearing for the rest of your life, and happy to show off (but not feel it's too gaudy).

damn man, you took that picture? thats sick.

I really like the last picture there, I don't even mind it with the ridges tbh. Do you have a pic of the engagement ring you got her?

I think the ridges are alright, I kind of like that one. If not ridges perhaps a little bit of patterning/etching/whatever you want to call it around the rim. I do like the matte in the middle.

Didn't realise you were getting married, congrats sir =)

Congratulations.

I also think simple rings are good, though I do like the design of the first one, but without the diamonds in it.

Is the last photo where you're going to move into after the wedding? Nice view, I'm quite envious.

Cheers and all the best.

For something you're going to wear all the time keeping it simple is the best otherwise you run into problems with keeping it clean and nice.

In any case, the emotions symbolized by it are more important than the design of it.

A quick note -- a matte finish might not last very long. It depends on the metal, obviously, a titanium finish will last basically forever, but gold is very soft. My wife and I have white gold bands and got them with a brushed/matte finish, and within a couple of months of normal wear and tear they were pretty shiny. But you're right, a man's wedding band should not be terribly flashy. Diamonds = no. If you don't want just a band or a rounded band, then a line across it (or two different metals or something) is your best bet. For your ladyfriend, anything matching that she'd be happy to wear forever is fine. Keep in mind what sort of engagement ring she has, and if she wants to wear the two of them on the same finger then that limits her options a bit.

What a bizarre coincidence; my fiancee and I just picked up our wedding bands yesterday.

Mine's a pretty simple heavy white gold band with a brushed exterior and a little indent in the middle. It's kind of hard to explain; I'll see if I can find a picture similar to it.

Edit: This, but rounder.

That's kind of disappointing, but it's not like my ring'll be ruined or anything.

My father works in the jewellery industry in Australia too. Just out of interest what is the name of her father's business I might know him.

Good luck choosing a ring BTW.

Congrats! My wife and I wear simple red gold bands with a bevel running down the center. Hers has one very small diamond from when we got married and anothe even smaller one that I had added when our daughter was born.

I like Sfydjklm's pic: I think wedding rings should be kept as simple as possible.

The one thing I wanted that I didn't get was "One ring to rule them all" inscribed on the inside in tengwar.

Personally I like a matted ring like the first you showed (without the diamonds!) or something in red gold or copper colored.

Good luck with finding something you'll have to wear for the rest of you life

@OP - I like the plain one (carve names inside?)
Seems a lot simpler and meaningful. Also safer from robbery and theft.

On a more serious note, Congrats! I have a plain ring; it's pretty wide and has a slight angle to the edge. My only recommendation is that you get the comfort fit. I think that's what it's called when the inside edge is rounded.

That traditional Russian wedding band is awesome. I love shit like that. One ring to rule them all, etc.

Personally, for my wedding band, I wanted simple and classy. I don't like the concept of 'bling' on a guy's band and think it just looks tacky. I was going to be for the simple, totally plain, yellow-gold wedding band but ended up picking out something that had a little bit of beveling just to add a little bit of 'flare.'

I love simple, classic, yellow bands for dudes. Especially ones that get beat to shit over the years. It's like a black suit - always classic, always timeless and never goes out of style.

And one thing to consider is that we are men and likely inherently lazy about things like rings. White gold is all the style these days but keep in mind that it requires upkeep. You have to get the rhodium plating re-done on those things relatively frequently. Yellow gold, you just wear. Obviously there are harder metals like titanium that people get bands made out of these days, but again I'm more a fan of the classic stuff.

I snapped a picture of my own wedding band (it's already getting pretty beat up which is awesome). Sorry about the shitty picture quality (iPhone hipstaprint), but I guess the point gets across - it's very simple.

Anyways, even though your soon-to-be father in law is a jeweler, it doesn't mean you can't go out to some shops, try some things on, and see what looks good on you. Maybe what you like in photos will look weird on you in reality. You never know.

Happy hunting and congratulations!

Go try a bunch on and find one that you like and that feels good - as you said, you actually have to wear it!!

I personally like the simple ones, my husband and I both have plain platinum bands and they are great.

Wow, I took like 6 months before finding a nice wedding ring. I wanted something sober, without diamonds, but without gold (grayish color ftw) so I aimed for a simple but stylish platinum ring.
Im using my mobile now, but I'll try to post a pic soon.

Hey, I got one. It's awesome. All my friends are super-jelly.

My wife's actual wedding ring is also a Nenya, but she wears a minimalist emerald gem one around, since it's not likely to get snagged on anything.

I liked the plain silver one just because I think that if it's representing something pure and classy the ring should reflect it, where as if you get a super engraved one with a huge diamond it looks vain. No one actually thinks you're any richer if you have a big rock on your finger, save the money and buy a lambo, that'll impress.

Lamborghini is on my list of things to buy but not just yet.. Our wedding rings won't match because hers is going to match her engagement ring as she has to wear them together. We got them made from the same batch of diamonds at the same time so her wedding ring and engagement ring match perfectly. I am at uni now so can't upload a photo but will try find one when i get home. I'm super proud of her rings as me and her dad designed them because i was desperate to propose with the real ring

As for the quality-we were going to just order one in from her dad but he decided it's much better to have it made from scratch to ensure quality etc we were also originally going for 18k but apparently it's to soft so 9k will last longer (interesting fact.) Hopefully it all turns out nice and classic/timeless

Congratulations :3 Can I be invited?

My suggestion is, go for something that suits you. Are you a prideful kind of person, or modest? etc. etc.

Personally, I'd like some diamonds or a jewel in my ring, but others like the more modest way of just a band.

Sfydjklm's pic is pretty much what I have and I really like it. I have a couple friends with a Tungsten ring though that he loves (its pretty much rock solid so one of them opens bottles with it all the time and never has worry about it chipping or scratching it).

That all said, I saw this ring linked somewhere not so long ago and was amazed.

Have you asked your wife what she wants? Usually they are a set, although with your sweet hookup you guys can get anything. We went for a simple platinum twist. My wife's has a few small diamonds on the twist. We both have the wedding day inscribed on the inside, which you will be thankful for in a few years.

It is also really beatup and resembles more of an oval now. It happens after a few years, so unless you are going to polish it, don't expect the matte / shiny aspect to last.

Be careful about the sturdier metals (titanium, tungsten, etc) used in some rings. It can be a problem to remove them if they get stuck or you're in a car crash and your hand is mangled or something.

So someone asked earlier about what my beautiful wife-to-be's engagement/wedding ring looks like i managed to find a picture that looks similar

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

It sort of looks like that - it's quite a thin band because she has tiny fingers. Her wedding ring looks exactly the same but without the big diamond in the middle lol; so it is just small diamonds around it. They look pretty baller when put on together.

And to everyone that has said go try some on, or ask your fiancee - i've definitely done those things already, but it's very much in my court at the moment. I definitely don't want a plain ring - just not my style; but i think i am going with something like this in 9k white gold.
