Dear HuK, I am writing this letter knowing you will never, ever read it. I am a nobody and I accept that. I know you're one of the worlds best, and I accept that as well. I have but one complaint with you, and it is regarding Dreamhack.
You see, something I've noticed on the lower leagues is that ever since you won Dreamhack, alot of people have been switching to protoss. Now that in and of itself is nothing bad, people want to be just like the professionals, and what better way for us lowly players to achieve that than play the race of our game heroes? My complaint however is:
I HAVE ONLY RAN INTO 2 PEOPLE THE LAST WEEK AND A HALF THAT DOESN'T 4GATE!
Now that your eyes are no longer bleeding from my textual yelling, let me go into detail as to why I blame you.
People like I said like to follow their heroes in whatever they do. Not only do people like you because you are beyond amazing with protoss and you making playing it look easy, but because you took first in a korean dominated game, as well as your popularity because of it. As such, people want to be exactly like you. The problem to that however is that in these lower leagues, people simply can't play like you, and so they get mad and frustrated that they copy your build exactly but it doesn't work like it does when you do it. They don't realize all the stuff going on behind the build that you do in order to make every single action you take a good one.
As such they get angry and frustrated like I said above and resort to builds everybody tells them will get them to masters. That's great in their mind because that means they're getting to be up to your level that much faster, like a dream come true for them. Somebody gives them a golden ticket to Masters, and that golden ticket is 4-Gate. They get there yes, but without the skills learned from months of climbing the ladder, refining builds and playstyles and all the "fun" parts of the game in my opinion, they get their butt handed to them still because all they know is 4-Gate.
I play Zerg, and at first yes it was horrible going against protoss because they ALL 4-gate rushed or 4-Gate all-inned. Eventually however I figured out how to take care of it and I always open fast roach now against Protoss regardless of what he has planned in his head.
I Just wanted to say that although you are not directly responsible for it, I blame you for inspiring ungosu-like people to think they're baller using the 4-Gate in all their match ups. Thank you for a minimum of 2-4% of the players in Masters with no real skill to speak of.

Free win. On higher level, you'll probably face better protosses who don't 4 warp gate.

I would just think of it as "All I have to do is defend the 4-gate and I will be fine." Then defend the 4-gate and win. If you lose, then at least you did not lose to the 4-gate.

because everyone on the starcraft ladder watches dreamhack and that has a direct correlation to the races youve been facing on ladder. riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Let me set the record straight right now. I can deal with a 4-Gate now after figuring out how to. I can win and do win against protoss that 4-Gate. This rant was inspired by the boom in protoss as it appeared to me and how I thought it was sad that none of the ones I laddered against did anything other than 4-Gate but one who went air.
And I am not pointing the finger at HuK personally, more than just at his success, even though it is great he is doing so well and I really am happy for him.
Besides we all know that the kind of stuff where he won dreamhack so more people went protoss happens. I mean if somebody got in a fight with Mohammad Ali and knocked him out fast, that guy would inevitably gain more fans and inspire some people to become a boxer.

4 gate is really easy to stop, especially at lower levels where people don't know how to hide tech at all. You should be glad for all the freewins, although I seriously doubt people have started 4 gating just because huk did it. 4 gate has been around since beta.

a perfectly exectued 4 gate would be looking to get you into diamond, and it only works vs toss. terran and zerg can defend 4 gate so easily if scouted properly.

I don't mean any offense Mr. HuK by this post I apologize if it came off that way. I mean I think it's cool that people aspire to be like you, it's great and I don't try to discourage people from being like that.
I was just simply talking about the boom in protoss population from my observations(I play this game almost all day not being payed to play it haha, I am a loser lol) and how they just try and 4gate themselves to the top, instead of learning the race at these lower tiers which is better in my opinion.
The blame game was intended to be kinda humorous like all my other stuff. Guess I can't express humor all too well with my words heh. Sorry if you took it the wrong way, wasn't what I meant.
EDIT : And just like every single other post I have made, people see my OP, but take what they want from it and don't read my follow up comments. I can defend the 4gate, it's really not that difficult as it used to be anymore. Why does nobody ever read these parts? Bleh!
