Hi everyone!
I just figure I throw another blog up with my little free time I have. Between preparing for my calculus exam, writing a philosophy paper, general living and Starcraft of course, there isn't much time for anything else. I figured for this installment though, it would be entirely Starcraft related, not a philosophical argument like my last post XD
Lately I've been playing protoss (not terran like I said, protoss is my race), namely messing around with protoss air. I think phoenix, void rays and carriers have a lot of potential if they are controlled right. I think protoss air play has the most potential against zerg, with harassing zerg with phoenix extremely easy to do.
Now I'm not talking your food consisting entirely of air units and probes (this would be suicide and a waste of resources) but supplementing a solid gateway force with air units to be an excellent combination. I've found void rays do well with most any force and I usually have more void rays than other air units. Phoenix do well to protect the void rays and carriers, are good for harassing and counterharassing (haven't found too much use for the lift though). I have found carriers are only good when you have an advantage in the game already (like there was some sick harass done by the phoenix, defended an early push, up by an expo for example). When you are behind, you are gonna kill yourself by trying to get out carriers, even with chronoboost, but if you make 2-3, with +attack, they are a great way to break your enemy decisively and win the game.
I haven't tried my air skillzzzz on the ladder yet, I'm still getting used to this build/composition, but I've been practicing with my diamond friends, and even though they usually roflstomp my ass, I learn something valuable from the loss.
If anyone has any good advice when using protoss air, or have any good builds for protoss air, please, comment. I would be grateful for any and all advice (refrain from the 'dont use toss air it blows' comments, kthnx).
Until next time, Mike

you are right, protoss air is sick, but its so hard to get to, maybe a 3 gate sentry expand into voids and phoenix and once 3rd base is secured with a nice gateway army + voids and phoenix then you can start making carriers from 2-3 stargates. idk tho, i hate protoss

1 Base Phonix vs Terran is a really strong build. Perhaps the only AirBuild that isn't All-In.

how have you not found much use for lift? You should be lifting anything you can kill... be it queens, drones, roaches, lings, hydras.. whatever. Lift is part of the reason phoenix's are so good. Most standard phoenix openings rely on suprising the zerg with 3-4 phoenix then lifting and killing all his queens.. following up with a void ray can sometimes win you the game.. that's what makes the opening so good. You really should be using lift..

I suppose I should have clarified, I mean except for harass (the things you listed above), there isn't much use for the lift. I mean lift wouldn't be very useful against a standard army of roaches and hydras and the like, since lifting a few roaches or hydras wouldn't make much of a difference (and the phoenix would most likely be killed in the process). Thinking about it actively though, it would be a good way to eliminate infestors, which are becoming more popular in PvZ with the patch.
Harassing workers/queens is an excellent use of lift, I know that, I was just saying, for a mid/late game army, I would want mostly void rays instead of phoenix for my air units...well because they can shoot things on the ground, haha.

Yeah, I have heard good things about it too, would you be able to point me in the direction of an example build and explanation? The search function isn't turning up anything useful.

In smaller numbers phoenixes beat hydralisks handily because of lift.
