On paper, in the safety of your house, yes, I agree you think you would be able to resolve a dispute through words. However, experience shows that when someone is talking huge amounts of shit to you and then suddenly places their hands on you, you may not be able to control the urge to strike back. It's basically just one of those things you need to experience. Sometimes it's just too much and you can't control yourself. Do you really have to come off as the elderly wizard who knows it all in 90% of your posts? Sorry I'll try to cool it down in the future.
Maybe you lose your head easily and goes berserk on people in the middle of a discussion, but I'm sorry, I know plenty of people who can hold themselves pretty well. In fact, that's what the guy in this video did. His mistake was being a douche and wanting to take the discussion further. The moment he was slapped, he should have called security. Period.
And even though it's understandable that some people lose their heads in the heat of an argument, you can't possibly think that this is the _right_ thing to do. I agree with you in this case 100%. I'm just saying some people write "I would never hit anyone" with unbelievable certainty. That was the basis of my post.
I feel like this is becoming more and more accurate:

In a court of law, if someone hits you, you may defend yourself. The older man struck first, so the young man defend himself. Mob rules was saying "he's too old to get hit" clearly, you can hear this from the audience reaction. Legally, nothing will happen to the young man; alternatively, the older couple could face charges for instigating a fight, and causing emotional harm - attacking in front of a body of people.
In law, Chill is completely wrong. "Feelings" aren't welcome in a court house - but I don't think Chill was talking about "law". Everyone can agree a primal feeling takes over once you start fighting, or even when you get hit! Some people have it really bad - check out the interview with Dice and Tom Green lol - but some people can hold that primal feeling back. edit: yeah, chill was just showing the kids here what happens in a real life situation, cool
Fumi, if you saw the video, you wouldn't say the young man was a docuhe taking it further. I think we both know who took it 'further' in this case, all the young man was doing was trying to sit down and watch his game. You can even hear him yelling at one point "I paid my tickets.. fucking this.. fucking that... " It sounds like he got into an argument with the person next to him, and she was immature and took it waaaay too far. To further this, he eventually tried sitting down when the bitch walked away - thus ending the confrontation.... nope! big dumbass was ready to rock, and he got clocked; hopefully a lesson learned - not too many more lessons that man can take lol.
P.S. By law, equal rights means men and woman have equal rights. Would you punish a female for defending herself? Would you punish a male for defending himself? I do not see where sex comes into play here???

Perhaps you didn't read Chill's post either. Does everybody just not read the part in his post about the opposition laying hands on you? That's the whole thing. Nowhere in his post is he advocating violence in a discussion or simply hurting people. His entire point is that playing armchair quarterback to confrontations and always saying "turn the other cheek" or things of that nature is meaningless until you've been in a situation like that yourself.

What I meant was, he was "taking it further" because he continued the discussion after the woman slapped him. But yeah, the oldies were just plain wrong, so I didn't even comment on them. It did seem to me though, although it's just an assumption, that once the two oldies were walking away, the guy said something, and that something actually made the old man charge at him. So assuming that's what happened, it doesn't matter if the guy was sitting down. I say that cause the old man seems to be trying to get the woman out of there and go away during the whole thing. Either way, hitting that guy was wrong. We're talking about losing control in the heat of the moment, I guess that's exactly what happened to the two there. Mostly to the old man, as that slap was really uncalled for in my opinion.

That's so stupid that they throw that guy out for defending himself from that old guy, who attacked him first.

This is like I've entered some sort of fucking Twilight Zone episode.
By your own discussion of the law and self defense, Chill's post isn't wrong because he SPECIFICALLY mentions in his about retaliating to a physical confrontation which was started by the opposition. You need to learn to construct better, more thought out replies if these aren't what you're trying to say. Either that or there's some huge baller analogy wrapped in this thread that I missed.
edit: Maybe this is all just strange by poor quoting skills and mediocre post direction.

His entire point is that playing armchair quarterback to confrontations and always saying "turn the other cheek" or things of that nature is meaningless until you've been in a situation like that yourself. You have poor comprehension.... All I said is , Chill is wrong is law, doubt he is talking about that though. I even edit : after you quoted unfortunately that ya, he was just trying to show kids real life... I edit because chill posted after I was posting. When did I say chill was advocating violence lol.. Sounds like you were though ^^ and btw, when did this discussion turn about chill? :S This is like I've entered some sort of fucking Twilight Zone episode. Or maybe you have really poor comprehension and you're defending your boyfriend, Chill. I didn't even disagree with Chill, I was using what he said as an example and said this wouldn't be true in law. "In law, Chill is completely wrong. "Feelings" aren't welcome in a court house - but I don't think Chill was talking about "law"." Is this not straight forward for you, my dear? Again, why are we discussing Chill? x.x PM if you want, stop ruining this thread with this bickering.

that's how i was raised and that's how i would handle it too. you dont hit women, and people who do get beat. you don't hit ladies. but being a lady means you are acting ladylike. aka not going around slapping strangers for no reason
right, but when its a woman and she slaps you, you're a man, you take it like a man, you dont hit her back.
if a man comes up and hits you that's a different story.

Someone hits me, I hit back. End of story. If you don't hit me, we can talk it out. I never try to escalate anything to physical violence. :/

I probably wouldn't punch her for slapping me, but there's a damn good chance she'd be getting pinned down or at least having her hands pinned behind her back until security came.
Good chance I'd sue.

well she kinda jumped on him so thats reasonable that he would try to push her away. i dont see it as him hitting her.
as far as the video goes i think the guy handled everything remarkably well given the circumstances. and im not surprised the crowd would side with the old people in that just because they had no real way to know exactly what was going on. for all they know he attacked the old man! so its natural they would try to restrain him to be safe. hindsight is 20/20 tho and we can see he clearly wasnt in the wrong in this instance.

Lol for what? To pay an attorney to win nominal damages in a civil suit?
It really depends on whether I would hit a woman. Generally no but I've learned that circumstances tend to dictate rather than some set principle.
