I would love to meet with you floor exercise, and openly discuss your personal history. We can talk about your experience free lance coaching or playing games professionally, and discuss your attempts at carving out a living in an new and untested industry, with very little history of success in North America. I would wear a sportscoat and bring an old briefcase I found in my basement, riddled with BB gun pellets from target practice as a child. Our team was awful and we were expelled from the league for starting fights. As coach the failure was entirely mine, I taught virtually nothing and didn't really do that well in the fights either. Though bards often frequented this particular indoor sports dome, none would sing of my heroic deeds in the many battle royals that occurred on that astroturf. I am swayed by your post however, I never once even considered how difficult it could be trying to convince people to give you money in exchange for lessons on how to play a game marginally well. Although usually I find "Please Bitch" irresistible I find it best to publish as little about your personal life as possible and I hope you can respect that. The first girl I asked out was in 7th grade. It seems so long ago now. It was in wood shop, I threw a note at her. She shared it with her friend, along with a giggle. I was crushed, with no one to share that feeling with but all of you which explains why I am such a bitter, angry asshole. I tried once more when I asked her to the school dance. She said she's going with friends but she'd "see me there". She'd certainly see me, it's hard to miss the person you're pointing and laughing at. Since then I'd have my ups and downs with women and most people do as they learn to live and love. We're really straying from the point of this thread though. It's cool that you took an interest in me though :D So we agree, you're not qualified to judge someone like InControl so harshly. Maybe one day, you'll actually put yourself in a position were you stick your neck out there. Try to make a living in an nascent industry. Start your own business. Manage a large and diverse team to complete a large project. Do what you love. Quite frankly, being a securities dealer isn't that ambitious -- it's a pretty linear and safe career path, with many established paths and opportunities to make, at minimum, a reasonable living. InControl's been part of a lot of ambitious, collaborative projects related to e-sports. That sounds about as lucrative and reliable as trying to be a professional skateboarder in the early 80's. Not all these projects have worked out, that's obvious. But there's a lot of reasons why projects like these fail. It can be as simple as someone having a kid, or their mother getting sick. An investor breaks a promise. That kind of shit. In your post, you recognize your own failures and self-interest. Good for you. But it's pretty easy to 'take the high road' now after sinking so low, if avoiding an argument is taking the high road. Go ahead and report my post, if you think it's so hostile. I'm not the one that has been trying to drag someone else's name in the mud needlessly for months. It's just not about sticking your neck out there in a risky business. It's about trashtalking people and businesses left and right then not delivering close to what you hype your own stuff up to be. No one would care if it wasn't for the very harsh critique of other casters/leagues yet when NASL comes out it's pretty horrible with spoilers/shit sound/lag etc.
Now this I can understand. InControl is a very opinionated person, and I can understand how people might relish any opportunity to criticize him.
But man, some of it is out of hand. It's like there's people on this board that are going to forever fault him for trying anything ... forever. People have to get over it.
I don't even know the guy, but I hate being part of a community where someone tries something new, and random strangers just drudge up every mistake they've ever been associated with and try to shit on it before it even has a chance to succeed.
Am I the only person that thinks that's depressing as hell?

That's your opinion, which seems very defensive towards someone you don't really know. If you dish out shit left and right you gotta be ready to take just as much or more back when being a "celebrity". You act like he should get a free pass to say whatever he wants without backlack just cause he is famous.

You reap what you sow on the internet. That's just the way it is. May not be pretty but it probably wont change. If tomorrow we find out that InControl pulled a Chris Brown and there's bruised Anna Prousser images all over the internet, I will join this weird bandwagon. Until then, you crazy fuckers are overreacting. Dang.
Judging by your feverish and incessant defense of a person you don't know against nerds who just have their own opinion... i'd say you might be overreacting too.

The EG manager basically made him choose between casting or pro-gaming because he was doing too much and not excelling greatly in any.
InControl hwaiting.

I don't think you're diabolical or a bad person or that you look for ways to scam people left and right. I just think you put your name to so many bad things that I can only reasonably come to conclusion that the next thing with your name affixed to it will be tainted as well. I'm sorry it upsets you to be questioned on things and asked for clarification and to dig up that long list of disappointing projects, but I appreciate that you responded.
I would love to meet with you floor exercise, and openly discuss your personal history. We can talk about your experience free lance coaching or playing games professionally, and discuss your attempts at carving out a living in an new and untested industry, with very little history of success in North America. Oh wait, you have ZERO experience? Have you ever worked for yourself or started a business? Have you ever taught a class? Have you ever successfully asked out a girl? Please, bitch. Every entrepreneur has been involved in a long string of success and failures. I'm willing to be InControl's CV/resume is a lot more impressive than yours. Your overtly hostile tone had me torn between reporting your post or responding with equal malice, but I will try to take the higher road. My experience in coaching is admittedly lacking, I once ironically pretended to coach an indoor soccer team comprised of high school friends. On professional video gaming, I was a Big Deal in the 2v2v2v2 BGH scene on US east. My friends and I were incredibly good at Team Micro Arena as well, and to this day I believe we influenced the meta game with our infested terran usage. You're right, I don't exactly know the struggle of coaching games in North America. I am swayed by your post however, I never once even considered how difficult it could be trying to convince people to give you money in exchange for lessons on how to play a game marginally well. Somewhere in some unmarked grave lies the corpse of an immigrant whose sole pliable trade when he landed on Ellis Island was his impeccable Ball and Cup skills. I can only imagine the scorn he likely had to endure as he struggled to make a living doing what he loved. Somewhere below my shriveled heart a knot tightens in my stomach just thinking of him. On the subject of my professional career I am a licensed securities dealer and agent in Canada (but not Quebec) I have worked for myself, others and no one. I have written business plans but I have never started my own business. Unless you consider the time in 5th grade we would steal from the convenience store my schoolmate's parents ran and sold their candy at a reduced rate in the schoolyard. Hey, I wouldn't disagree with you. At all. I am absolutely overreacting.
It's partly because I know why guys like Day9, Artosis, Tasteless, HD, Husky and almost every other public figure in Starcraft barely posts on the TL boards anymore.
It's because of assholes like us.
To InControl's credit, he still participates in the forums. Which is kind of suicidal.
So some reason, I just feel obligated to defend the guy. It would be a shame if all the pro's on this board just disappeared. It's basically been the foundation of TL's success.

I think too much pricepool money, not enough money spend into production value of the show.

I don't understand this.. Was it his decision or the owners of the leagues ? Because he was by far the best commentator, and I found him to be the huge star of what has been kind of a bleak tournament
|
Good luck to incontrol now that he has way more time to dedicate to gaming, hope to see him shoot up to be one of the top foreigner protoss players!
|
less of his casting... yet what sounds like more of his top class playing its bittersweet, loved his casting yet also love his playing just gl hf to geoff and whatever he decides is best to do
|
In my eyes he never was a good caster so good for him and us ^^. I hope he can show some good games in the future. Best of luck Geoff.

i think he should leave the hamburgers instead of casting then again he sucks at that too

I don't think any of the people mentioned above ever participated in gossip threads anyways.

Uh oh. This won't be good for NASL. He was the #1 proponent of it, and now... I just don't know. Hopefully the insane player pool will be enough to keep it popular in season 2.

But I get the feeling that it'll last 2 seasons and then stop. It's just not really doing so hot and I feel as if it NEEDS a dramatic change in direction. someone to save NASL and bring it to the top. first...get rid of the looooooooooong season schedule. it really isn't helping in the quality of games; it also has led to many walkovers. i c... is there any official source that actually can tell us the internal structure of the NASL? it seems almost silly as there is no one that we can hold responsible other than the "NASL" as a whole (i think that's probably why incontoll is taking some much flack). someone is making the big decisions and they should be held responsible.
