Not saying I like when my waiter behave like my dog...

Did you know that velcro is the only material with a friction coefficient higher than 1? Hmm. I'm pretty pessimistic about England. As a whole I think the best thing we have is the premiership football league. We might not have the very best team, but I think we have the most high level teams, which means there are a lot of good games on. The other great thing is London (its probably the first thing I should have listed). I don't really like England as a whole, but I love London. Its so rich in culture and there is something for everyone. If you come to London you should stay away from all the patriotic, royal family shit, that's what English culture would probably be. London is way better because our culture is a mixture of so many other cultures. There are great art galleries to visit, great music to see whatever you like, and we may not have our own food, but you can get food from any country you can think of. I'll shout out Ireland here. The country I feel to spiritually be my culture. If you like the countryside (I don't know how many liquidians do, I mean internet isn't that good in the countryside), its beautiful. There is also Guinness, which is different to most of the other European beers and is so much better in Ireland. Irelands produce is delicious too. While its probably most famous for potatoes, some of the best steaks I've ever had were Irish beef.

I have lived in and visited a shit ton of countries including the US, Australia, Spain, Switzerland, Morocco, Italy, Greece, Qatar, Bali, Singapore, and more and I can honestly say that NOWHERE in the world is restaurant food and just simply the ingredients and food you can buy in the shops a better quality. Hence why the French have the best food. Even though everyone who says something like that looks like a prick let me help you out, France has the most Michelin starred restaurants (3 stars, very rare) than anywhere else. There was something about Japan having very high quality that rivaled or beat the French but I can't find any references to it anymore so I'll leave that one to debate. [Looking it up later, I did find that Tokyo is the winner, not Japan as a whole. So Tokyo beats out Paris it seems] First few pages of this thread were so Anti-American that it made me wonder if we are not the most polarizing nation on the planet. I've been all over Europe, backpacking, rarely have I had to frown upon the people I've met for me being an American. This thread had me frowning constantly... You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I suppose you'll also tell me there's no such thing as Brazilian or Chilean or Mexican culture, it should all be credited to Spain and Portugal. Or is this rule only applicable to Americans for some reason? Well the US is one of the most multicultural nations in the world, if not the most multicultural. For example, I am part English, Irish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, and something like 1/256th Cherokee. This is normal here. Also we were also the home of John Browning, the father of modern small arms design. Among his most well known designs are the Colt M1911: As its name suggests the weapon released in 1911 defines modern pistols. It was the standard US sidearm until the barrette replaced it in the 1980s, and some version of the pistol is still in use by most law enforcement agencies in the US today. It defined the modern pistol and what a pistol looks like. BAR(Browning Automatic Rifle): The BAR was one of the first active weapons to use the gas operated recoil mechanism, also of browning design. It's much lighter and more reliable than the old recoil mechanisms and It's safe to say that modern assault rifles wouldn't be possible without it. The weapon was so successful that the US refused to use it in WWI because of the fear that the central powers would reverse engineer the weapon for use it against them. Instead troops were given a French automatic rifle that is known as possibly the worst weapon ever issued to US troops. The BAR saw use through to the early years of the Vietnam war. M1917 Water cooled Machine Gun: An improvement over the old Maxim machine gun. If you see a US soldier carrying a water cooled machine gun, noted by the huge jacket around the barrel, chances are it's a M1917. Browning M2 Machine gun: The M2 is essentially the perfect machine gun. 90 years after its creation the weapon is still the standard machine gun of NATO. If you see a machine gun mounted on a NATO vehicle or a tank it's probably a M2. It's known for its great reliability, long range, and ability to pierce a meter of concrete. The US too.

[B]I've been all over Europe, backpacking, rarely have I had to frown upon the people I've met for me being an American. This thread had me frowning constantly... You should be ashamed of yourselves. And I find it funny that when we mention that an American invented the paperclip, it's instantly rebuked by many, while at least four countries have claimed credit for penicillin, which I consider to be somewhat more influential, and there's little/no argument. I read the entire thread yesterday, and can't remember exactly which countries claim credit, but iirc Canada, the UK, Switzerland, and Sweden/Norway were on the list, somehow peacefully coexisting while we figure out why the US hasn't invented the paper clip or the lightbulb. I accept that we didn't invent everything. I accept that people from the US may be a bit confused about some things (as are many people from other countries it would seem). I accept that as time goes on, contributions for almost every product can be claimed by many countries. That doesn't mean that every contribution that the US has made should be ignored or played down. I'm not usually overly patriotic or oversensitive when it comes to complaints/comments about the US, but I really enjoyed the concept of this thread, and I enjoyed learning about the unique aspects of other countries. I don't like being considered a typical arrogant and ignorant American because it says "United States" next to my name, so I see learning as much as I can about other countries, no matter the content, to be really useful and interesting. I just think that the response to many of the US posts has been off-putting for many of us. Sorry for the rant. I'll think hard of something undoubtedly awesome about the US and post later :D

The Michelin Guide, with the exception of Japan, never ventures beyond the Western world, so it's hardly an indicator of which country has the best food.

Was rated as the best country to live in on the planet earth a year ago or so, probably still is. Also one of, if not the county with the most extreme nature/climate.

Not entirely true, it does Hong Kong and Macau as well. But, yeah, Michelin stars as best indicator of food is kind of an odd measurement. It's a little unfair to compare it by countries considering that Michelin started in France, so naturally it's going to scour the entire French countryside for good restaurants. Compare to China (or even the US) where Michelin only visits certain cities. And I think Tokyo is the city with the most Michelin stars.
