After waiting forever to get the cash to update my ancient PC so that I can actually play it, I now have it, and picked the thing up this morning. Immediately go to multiplayer, pick protoss because I'm a cheesing bastard, let's go with the placement games!
1) 0p0p0p0p0p wait what why am i not making probes WHICH IDIOT CHANGED THE PROBE HOTKEY DAMNIT ok make pylon WHICH IDIOT CHANGED THE PYLON HOTKEY lose in about 6 minutes to marine/marauders 2) work out that I need to use "e" quite a lot, but get confused with how this whole warpgate thing works, lose to mass roaches in about 12 minutes 3) lose pvp due to still obviously sucky mechanics 4) realise that i hadn't tried to cheese in three straight games which is against the laws of protoss, so think about cannon rushing. scout some terran who says he's "not very good" last on metal, has walled off with three depots. oh well, may as well dump a pylon behind his natural line. and a cannon. he's still not moved out and i see no scout in my base at all so pylon block the expansion position, warp in a load of units, add more cannons and just walk up. he's sitting on two rax with just some marines, and win easily. woo, someone is worse than me! 5) just kind of lose initial pvp engagement somehow
so 1-4 and in bronze. oh well. let's try another game. yay, pvp again. let's go for some standard 9 pylon 12 gate thing, first zealot moves to my ramp, what is this? pylons? and wait, you're making a cannon? oh well, best shut that down. take out the incoming cannons and kill his probe, he instantly leaves the game. turns out he only had a forge made, no gateway or anything. lol
i think i suck, but i think some people suck more than i do.
other things:
- was in a shop the other day, some song comes on and i think "who's done that awful cover of dt's on top?" oh wait that's the original - was in queue of traffic and see a number plate of p4gab, think "wow, i'm stuck behind one of wemade's protosses!" then realise that it's the wrong number and i don't actually live in korea
i guess i should stop talking and start playing some more

All I can say is that there is always someone worse than you out there. If you keep playing you will win at a fairly even pace and will eventually improve no matter what.
For some Protoss advice, this is all I can say about Bronze: it is a joke, and every game should be taken lightly. Use these games to learn the basics and experiment as much as possible with the different units available to you. Whenever you get tired of losing, start practicing some more refined play and you'll win a little as well as improve.
Make Probes and Pylons constantly and learn to hotkey your Nexus to 4. (4e4c) Learn the other hotkeys and use them well (wwwwwwwwwww).
Keep playing too. 1v1 games make me so nervous my heart is racing after them. It's a thrill.
ya for my placement matches when i got the game long after release I was placed in silver off the bat. It was fun crushing terrible players during a swift rise to diamond (where i quite and went back to bw).
Don't u just wonder how astonished they are that you can multitask ur scout without queing it around the base?

highly agree on doing the challenges (helps you learn unit abilities and stuff - although some have been changed in patches).

I actually recommend making custom hotkeys - you can actually set probe to be both P or E (etc). (personally, I use a hybrid grid/standard keybind from when I played a lot of team games as random.)
You can change the hotkeys, eh? I know a lot of Brood War protoss players still put their Nexus on 0 and use P for probes/pylons because they're used to it.
