Marcus Eklöf displayed enormous amount of skill to claim the victory.
On May 16th, in Teamliquid Starcraft League Season 3 Finals, Sweden's "Thorzain" Marcus Eklöf cameback from behind and defeated his fellow Swede "Naniwa" Johan Lucchesi.
After winning the first games, Marcus Eklöf gave up his next 3 games and was on the verge of losing. However, from the 5th game, he won 3 in a row in a dramatic comeback victory. Especially in game 7 where his opponent consistently pressured his natural mineral line, he was able to focus and hold on to finish his comeback.
Thorzain was able to take the momentum winning the first game by building a starport to make banshees. Naniwa started with 2 gate into an expansion followed by a robotics bay. Thorzain was able to scout with his banshees and produced units from his barracks, factory, and the starport. After gathering his forces, Thorzain attacked Naniwa's natural and built a bunker in front of it. Naniwa was unable to defend his natural and retreated back to his main while his natural was destroyed. After building up a force, Naniwa tried to break out but was met by banshees and vikings. While he was able to destroy the bunker and break the contain, Thorzain already had a natural up. Naniwa then gathered all his forces for a last attack but Thorzain was able to defend and Naniwa was forced to concede.
In game 2, both Thorzain and Naniwa took a fast expansion for mid-late game. For the first 10 minutes, there weren't any significant confrontations. After getting a big ground army, Thorzain struck first trying to contain Naniwa with siege tanks and bunkers, while taking his third base. However Naniwa was able to break the contain with his Collosi and followed up with his third base. Naniwa was able to take advantage of the cliffs and use his collosi to destroy Thorzain's natural. Although Thorzain counter attacked by dropping in Naniwa's natural, it was unable to much damage. With double forge researching, Naniwa was able to annihilate Thorzain's army with his stalkers and collosi, forcing Thorzain to GG.
In game 3 Naniwa was victorious and claim the lead. Naniwas and Thorzain took fast expansions and had no major encounters. After creating collosi, Naniwa took his third base and contained Thorzain's troops. To counter the collosi, Thorzain began building Vikings and also took his third base. However, Naniwa stopped collosus production and made immortal. When the battle ensued, Naniwa able to destroy Thorzain's ground army and his third base. Thorzain tried to comeback by dropping in Naniwa's base but Naniwa simply destroyed Thorzain's 2 expansions and advanced to his main base to take the win.
Naniwa was able to take the 4th game to set up a match point. Thorzain took a fast expansion while Naniwa decided to make 4 gateways and overwhelm Thorzain's base. After finishing his blink upgrade Naniwa began attacking Thorzain's natural. Naniwa avoided thorzain's bunker taking out his harvesters. While Thorzain was able to hold with Siege tanks, he was eventually overwhelmed by Naniwa's stalkers and typed GG.
Thorzain was able to win game 5 and play one more game against Naniwa. Thorzain was building 2 barracks but canceled his second one after Naniwa's scout left. Instead he built a factory followed by a starport. Naniwa went 4 gate and stormed Thorzain's front but was Thorzain was able to hold it off. After the failed attack, Naniwa began building his robotics bay and took his natural. Thorzain was able to destroy Naniwa's expansion with the combination of Marines, tanks, and banshees. He contained Naniwa by building bunkers in Naniwa's natural. Naniwa believing that he could not break the contain attacked Thorzain's main base but was unable to break in and typed GG.
Thorzain was able to take game 6 and tie the series. Thorzain started off with 2 barracks while Naniwa opted to build 1 gate and follow it with a starport and produced phoenix. He was able to slow down Thorzain's expansion with his Phoenix harassment and took his own expansion while totaling his gateway to 6. He then split up Thorzain's forces with his Phoenix and attacked thorzain's expansion. Naniwa continued to send his units to attack Thorzain's natural while force fielding the choke so reinforcements could not defend the natural. However, the medivacs came just in time for thorzain to defend his natural. Thorzain then gathered his units and attacked Naniwa's natural and with successfully EMP'ed the sentries destroying Naniwa's army and his natural and forcing Naniwa to GG.
Thorzain was able to take game 7 and finish his dramatic comeback. Both Thorzain and Naniwa took fast expansions to take the match to a mid-late game. Thorzain built bunkers in his front to defend and Naniwa built stalkers and collosi. Naniwa then went to Thorzain's natural and disrupted his mining with his collosi. Thorzain then added vikings and ghosts to his army and defended Naniwa's attempt to break his natural. After surviving the confrontation, Naniwa was able to stall Thorzain with his sentries. The two players took their third expansion and began to mass their army. Thorzain landed brilliant EMP's and destroyed Naniwa's collosi with his vikings. After that, he destroyed Naniwa's third base and landed more EMPs to convincingly defeat Naniwa's army and force Naniwa to GG.
