So, there was a good steam sale recently of the popular indie (?) game Magika, about 50% off on this game I've heard so much about. So I decided to drop the 8 bucks for it. Took about 45 minutes to install/load and when I started black screen and then back to desktop.
Upon a little research, I found that Magika absolutely does not play on IGPs (Integrated Graphics Cards). And there is no work around and no fix to this, hopefully there will be on in the near future (It's only been out for about 3 months). But this is absolutely ridiculous. The minimum specs didn't mention anything that it wouldn't run on an IGP or anything.
I've played a ton of indie games/bw/ Starcraft 2/portal on this laptop (albeit on the lower settings) and it's ridiculous that it won't run in an integrated graphics card and even more so that there was no warning anywhere. I don't think this is being unreasonable or asking for much honestly. All I'm asking for is that there be a warning that IGP's aren't supported or they fix this problem.
So this is your warning all you people out there who use a similar set up as I do. If you have an IGP don't buy this game as it won't run. Honestly I feel robbed of my $8. T_T

on their system requirements it says integrated video cards not recommended
that sucks though, 'cause magicka is awesome

Don't get your hopes up, they need to recode the whole engine for intergrated video cards to work.

It pretty much says it doesn't work on integrated video cards. EDIT: apparently they've changed the steam description used to say that it didn't support intel integrated graphics.

It pretty much says integrated cards not recommended. Not that it doesn't work on integrated cards. Not recommended means do it at your own risk it may or may not work.
IGP were absolutely not supported from the very early stages of the game. Like seven dudes got together and were like, "ok we are not going to support people on IGP's because we don't want to spend money on scaling and it'll hurt overall performance" <- True story not kidding

From what I understand, the game was totally not ready for release, and has been plagued by bugs and hasty patches for a while. I also hear it's pretty good, though, if you can get it to run.

Doesn't it still run on most nvidia and ati IG chips? Keep in mind that this is from a startup developer who's first game is magicka. When they first released they probably could not afford to cover IGPs. Btw, why didn't you try the demo first? It's even linked on the steam store page of magicka ...
But since i recognize that you did pay something without receiving anything, you might want to contact steam support an ask if they can deactivate the game for you and you can get your money back. They can even check that you haven't played the game more than 5 minutes. I am pretty sure this is not possible right now, but if enough people with legitimate reasons ask these questions, they might introduce such a policy.

I just got the game yesterday and it's so poorly optimized it's absolutely ridiculous. It aint pretty either. :/

That's a good idea thanks I'll try but I have little hope. I'm kinda cooled down now. I should have tried the demo first but still..there's no reason it shouldn't have worked out of the box T_T

It was a extremly sensible thing.

I've not had any problems with it, I bought it at release.
I haven't even had any of these super crazy bugs people talk about.
Guess I'm just lucky. >_>

Yeah, I found this out when I tried to play the demo and it wouldn't load on my laptop. Kinda sucks for you, try demos first next time if the game offers it.

My boyfriend won it when the IRC channel we frequent had its birthday. I have to lend him my laptop so he can even play it. Neither his laptop nor his family's desktop can run it. I'm not sure if he's had any major problems with it on my laptop other than either the game or my laptop crashing while playing it.

I play a ton of Indie games and this is the first time something like this has happened so of course I expect it to work on my laptop I don't think I'm asking for the moon or anything.
My main quip is not with that though, but that there was no warning anywhere that it does not accept IGP's period.
"IGP's not recommended" when clearly it was in their design choice to not support it in its entirety.
