Today at the San Francisco Regency Ballroom Yann Tiersen held a concert to which my girlfriend and I were determined to attend. We had planned to arrive at the Regency Ballroom around 7:30 pm, so we would have time to find parking, walk to the place and get decent spots. Right?
Not so simple... We arrived there around 8 o'clock, the time at which the show was scheduled to start (Thank god another band oppened for them). Before we spotted the place, however, we begun looking for parking because, as anyone from the Bay area knows, finding parking in San Francisco is a nearly impossible task. Parking in the street was certainly not an option and most of the public parking lots/structures were either full, or closed before 11pm. [rant] Why so fucking early? [/endrant]
So after about half an hour of failed attemps and having a very awkward phone conversation with an individual who didn't speak English well enough to tell me that the sign with his phone number at a public lot saying he would be back in 10 min. meant that he had gone home for the night, we ended up parking at some hotel for a very expensive fee. I figured wasting any more time would be wasting the money paid on the tickets so I just went with it.
Throughout the drill of finding the regency hall and a place to park my girlfriend and I, of course, were arguing that she should've look for this on her phone after the first failed attempt, and that she could've given me more precise directions than "you're gonna take a right soon" - "How soon?" -- "we just passed it"
Ok maybe I'm exaggerating, and for the love of god when you read my biased version of the story don't get too mad :3.
That being dealt with already; we fast forward to when the show is actually over. It was an amazing show I must say, and for those who still have the chance/ are in the area you should head to the Rio theater in Santa Cruz as he will be performing there tonight.
But I digress... I decided to stay back and hang out for a few min. While there is a crowd trying to buy things from the little souvenir store. Now I figured most of those things are a rip-off, and I trasnfered most of my money to my savings account to prevent temptation of wanting to spend money unnecessarily. So, of course, I decided to call American Express and activate a card that I had received about 6 months ago.
By reason of me chatting in French with the vendor and my girlfriend reminding me (as we were leaving) that she wanted to buy a poster we ended up being about the last ones left in there. Besides some members of the band who were drinking beer.
As I'm about to pick up my junk and leave Yann Tiersen himself walks by me and I stare at him wondering who the fuck is him? (Dude I'm blind) and he stares back (probably wondering what the fuck is wrong with me)...
Then it hits me, and I got totally starstruck, I don't remember being so nervous in front of a person since the first time I kissed a gir (I liked it).
I managed to move my lips to say: "Ça va si je te demande de signer nos CDs?"
(I think to myself, wow I'm a dumbass this guy is probably twice as old as I am and I'm talking to him informally?)
But he just went along with it, and so I introduced myself and handed him (stupid me) the CD and asked him to sign the silver side. He looked at me and asked: "Do you really want me to sign it here?" (I internally facepalmed) and my gf sneaked the CD case into his hands and voilá!.
+ Show Spoiler +
Of course after that I was ecstatic; so much that we ended up driving through the Golden Gate on our way back to the east bay... And not minding that I have a 15 page final paper (75% of my grade) due in 12 hours, which I am yet to start.
All in all it was an awesome day =]. Now I'm off to write 15 pages on Kant's concept of the good will and it's place in modern society and hope I know my shit well enough to get an A.
Update: After having typed 2 pages I fell asleep last night; shortly after writing this blog...
I woke up at 8:30 panicking about the writing being due at 2pm.
Turned in that paper 1 minute before it was due ^^~
