I'm doing a research paper, I can do any topic I want. I have selected History of Starcraft, and my teacher says I may do it on Starcraft's History. Does anyone know any good sources?
I need 5 different sources, 1 interview (as someone said, try PMing some old timer, hope someone helps me), 1 book, and 3 internet sources. I think i can pass off a liquipedia+ one regular TL as diff sites, so i really need one MAIN other source.
Source List I'm planning on using: The Starcraft Bible (book) some TLFE some Liquipedia A PM interview (hopefully?)
Please help =)
It is supposed to be a double spaced 5 page essay, and i need to write research journals, 3/source max.
I really don't want to switch to the History of Games in general, but that is my fallback plan.
I obviously need to introduce starcraft, so that may take up some room.
EDIT for the bump: Can someone give me some veterens or old TL posters to PM for an interview?
edit again: I interviewed chobopeon. It is a small interview, and you could probably find alot of info elsewhere but w/e.
1.Why did you decide to write The Starcraft Bible? I want to be a writer and a big project like this seemed to be a great way to give back to the e-sports scene as well as gain recognition writing.
2.How long did it take you to write The Starcraft Bible?
I didn't write it all at one time but probably 4 or 5 weeks of hard writing. If there's one big thing I regret, I wish I had spent much, much more time on it.
3.Where did you find the information to write The Starcraft Bible?
I did a lot of interviews on my own. I've been around SC for 10 years so I knew a lot of this. Liquipedia, Final Edits, old posts on TL as well as numerous other websites helped me put together a good batch of sources.
4.What difficulties did you come across while writing The Starcraft Bible?
My own lack of knowledge in how to put together and then market a book. I know I'm a good writer but that is only a portion of what is needed to make a good book. My priorities weren't right. I found myself lost several times, not sure what to do next.
5.Do you see yourself writing another book on Starcraft in a few years?
Yes. I've learned a lot and when I apply what I've learned, I'm positive that my next project will be many, many times better in every way than this book.
6.How old were you when you first played Starcraft? found the Progaming Scene?
I was 11 or 12 when I first played StarCraft. I found the pro gaming scene around that time, almost immediately I would say. I'm currently 22.
7.Who/what is your favorite player? Team? (BW)
Boxer, SKT1
8.Who do you think will be one of the next "Big" Players? (BW)
Truth is, I've stopped following BW so I can't really comment on this in any credible way.
9.Have you played Starcraft II? What do you think of it?
I play SC2 all the time and my full time job right now is an freelance writer covering SC2. I love SC2. It has a ton of flaws but they're being worked out (new maps, for instance) and it's becoming a better game every day.
10.Do you know any other sources to find information on the history of Starcraft, other than the TL Final Edits, and Liquipedia? I want to stay away from Wikipedia if possible.
Google is your friend. Google specific things that you're looking for and go deep into the results. TL has been around for 7 years, so if you can search well here you'll find links to excellent old articles.
But more than anything, interviewing the people who were actually there is the best thing possible.
Good luck with your project.

I hope you aren't limited to "blah blah sources must be print, blah blah must be online." I'd recommend reading up on liquipedia and looking for old MSL/OSL threads.

another interesting topic would be an expose on the bonjwas. would paralell to the history of sc

Hmm, I'm not really sure where you could get sources. An interview with someone who was a pro back then would be pretty good source though =D.

A research paper?
....
In grade 8?
I'm sorry, this concept is just completely foreign to me. How long does it have to be?

Something like 2-3 pages double spaced I'm guessing.

LOL
just look around liquipedia and TLFE, you can also PM some old-timers or something

Thanks! I need 5 different sources though. I'm going to edit the OP as soon as i finish piano.

Putting the history of Starcraft into an 8th grade essay would be much too vague. I would recommend that you narrow the scope a bit. You could do a report on the very first OSL event or the rise of a certain bonjwa.
The easiest is probably to do a paper on SlayerS_Boxer. There's biographies on him everywhere.

And my favorite player! I may switch to a specific player too, as it will probably easier.

We did research papers in 8th Grade, mostly history. EZPZ
A good main source would be Boxer's biography or was it an autobiography?

Magazine articles are probably the way to go. For example, here is an article from the economist: http://www.economist.com/node/17363780?story_id=17363780
I just did a google news search on "starcraft" and got a ton of hits as well (organized roughly by year).

hey man i did this before last year when i was in 8th grade too, i printed like four pages of the history of RTS games (mostly focusing on starcraft) and how it evolved into one of the hardest and brain healthy games you can ever play.

For the book, I think boxer wrote an autobiography? A few excerpts were translated by someone online. Does anyone know the source?

are you the youngest poster on tl?
