As a lot of you know the starcraft 2 ladder isn't always the best place to be on.
Normal games mostly just end up with me and my opponent typing glhf, and then the loser just leaves the game once he sees the game as lost.
Then the other games, well those are just downright silly, by this time I have seen everything, offensive gg'en, people telling me to kill myself, people that lash out at things for almost no appearant reason.
But I had my first actually fun game.
What you should know is that I used to play zerg, but I have switched to terran since I started playing again, but I'm still using the hydralisk portrait just because I like it.
Anyway, I play a TvZ on metalopolis, and the guy asks if I had switched to terran.
I say yes, and I explain why, and we talk a bit about the state of TvZ, just some friendly banter.
He scouts my base with his overlord and he sees no 2 rax, and tells me that he is happy about it.
I tell him that I am gonna bunker him tough, because I have to pressure him a bit.
At noteworthy points in the game we give comments, in the end I won, he gg'ed and said he made some major mistakes wich cost him the game, I say gg and he leaves.
In the end, I couldn't care less if I actually won that game or not, because it was a fun game, and in the end isn't this what this game is about, to have fun?
If you end up reading this, and you are one of those guys who never says a word, you might wanna try being a bit more talkative, it can be fun.
I know that I'm gonna do it from now on.
Anyway, nothing major, but I did wanna make a small blog about it.

In my experience, whenever someone tries to have a conversation with you at the start of the game, it's because they're cheesing you and trying to throw you off. This is why I never say anything besides "gl hf" and "gg".

cool story, really. if only it was more common

OK but in the early opening stages of your build (I mean less than 30 food), do you actually not have enough time/APM to do everything you need to do *plus* type a few things to opponent??
I don't rly see how typing a couple of chat messages would throw you off unless you are pretty unpracticed at executing your basic opener and/or type with 1 finger at a time lol

I have macro's setup on my keyboard for gl hf, u2, gg and a few other things. I used to play fps games and had similar macro's along with ones that said things like "boom, head shot" that i would hit right before sniping someone between the eyes, would throw people off in 1v1 games ;p
I try not to talk to my opponent because they are the enemy, I dont want to like them while we are in battle, once the game is won/lost i will converse with them sometimes about the game, but before that... its war.

Cool. I wish that was more common.
I had a PvZ on Desert Oasisjust after release that was full of action, and there were lots of battles with us going back and forth. Eventually we're down to two bases each, and my opponent tells me something to the effect of, "Whoever wins, this is an awesome game." I agreed, and eventually I ended up losing and I have to say, I didn't mind in the slightest that I'd lost. Having an opponent be so mannered and cool even when they won is nice.

I've never had an experience like the OP where we talk about the game itself, but I think that laddering kind of promotes the gl hf OP -> gg ending, as people are trying to A) Get better B) Get promoted In which both you might want a good amount of concentration so you don't slip up on anything big

Yeah, I would like to have more banter, but in RTS games, you simply don't have much opportunity to, given the need for constant macro and micro.
In a FPS perhaps, you can just camp somewhere and type away.

Good story, but I don't understand why you told him what you were going to do.

I've had some good experiences like in the OP, wish I could have them more.
