A Congresswoman who actually goes and meets with the voters occasionally for their input, and she gets shot.

Not the average person thinking that this is what is called for. One person can ruin things for everyone else. Things like that map with crosshairs don't incite masses to go on bloody rampages. But they may just help nudge certain people to act instead of talk. I'm not saying Palin incited murder, but to say that a prominent public figure using crosshairs as a metaphor for her targets carries some influence. no. they are irrelevant. Much like reading catcher in the rye made someone kill john lennon. A crosshair on a map of america does not make people go out and kill each other. no. please get some common sense.

I completely agree with this statement. It sounds like she might be alive, which is crazy, though, less impossible things have happened. I hope she is still there though, if the bullet entered the brain whatsoever, then it's most likely she will have a ton of brain damage and never be the same again. There is a reason most people die instantly from a gun shot wound to the head, it's not pretty what a bullet can do. It's crazy that people in public office, trying to serve, and doing things that she thinks is right(props to her for doing this street corner thing, it sounds really cool, going out and hearing the opinions of those that she serves)... and then getting shot... that really turns other politicians away from listening to us don't you think..

I wonder what she did/does that caused enough conflict to trigger a assassination attempt @_@. arguments for/against gun control centers only around self defense, initiation of violence is something everyone hates.

It's part of the grander scheme of turning a political debate into a "war" which must be won for the sake of the future. It becomes a "cosmic" issue of greater importance, good and evil. This is what Palin, Beck and all the other Tea Party idiots have been doing for several years, and manipulating foolish people to secure their own careers.

Then I guess every citizen around the world who has ever supported a mass murdering tyrant was also just a complete bloody wretch because public figures don't have any influence over others with what they say. right? Does no one remember the abortion doctor from kansas, tiller? TILLER THE BABY KILLER! TILLER THE BABY KILLER! o'reilly had something like a dozen shows dedicated to TILLER THE BABY KILLER!!!!! finally someone, who watched o'reilly nightly and owned all of his books, shot the man while in church. Does everyone remember when the california highway patrol stopped a man armed to the teeth on the highway? He was going to go kill everyone at the tides foundation. Guess who his favorite pundit was: glenn beck. Glenn beck had dedicated something like 10 of his shows to tides foundation and how they were destroying america in the span of a few months. Despite being a local left-leaning non-profit charity(local as in not national), glenn beck demonized them as the masterminds behind the downfall of america. Don't even try and tell me that pundits don't have influence over the fringe elements of political groups.

I doubt that. As much as a I loathe Palin and the rest of the far right in the US blaming this on them is extreme. Could be a Nazi, an anarchist, an anti-govt guy etc. Information is sketchy at best, and we should stop speculating. Oh, and press conference coming up according to KOLD.

While obviously everyone on both sides of the gun control issue cares about this congresswoman's life, she was shot with a gun that was probably bought legally. Therefore, it's related to gun control. Whether or not there's a strong correlation between merely having guns and using them in a menacing manner is the controversy, but it is certainly going to flare up when random shootings like this occur, given the circumstances. Expect it to come up. Don't blame them. I hope Giffords recovers

If there are people like you. then there are certianly those who are going to kill over a political poster cause it has a crosshair on it. MYBAD

No doubt they will bring up the crosshair map and how Sarah Palin suspiciously removed it from her website after the incident.

Not just that, but even assuming this woman survives without some kind of permanent disabling injury, who's gonna want to step up to the plate and replace her after this? If "getting shot" is going to be an occupational hazard of being a Democrat in certain states from now on, we're even more in trouble than I imagined.
