I was suspecting this last night, now it's been confirmed. China has actually lost interest in keeping the koreas separate, so this may bode well for a united Korea again, controlled by Seoul and in a "benign" alliance with the US.

Back to South Korea though: how many times must an opposing country make acts of war against you (such as shelling your territory or sinking one of your ships) before you retaliate? South Korea has no credibility right now, and its failure to respond will simply embolden North Korea to keep doing what it's doing. War sucks and should always be avoid when possible. However, sometimes it simply isn't possible. I disagree with you. I believe that you could avoid war at all cost. We dont EVER need to have any wars

China's stance was already obvious years ago, and we have already pointed out back then. Yet some people today still think China will actively back North Korea up when war breaks out.... The only thing worth mentioning are the fact that few Chinese official actually spoke out to the western officials. I also don't think this leak is helping the situation at all, these things are often kept private for a reason.

Last week, North Korea shelled a South Korean island, sending the peninsula in to "crisis status." The South fired several test shots in response but, according to the New York Times, the country denied that any hit the North. South Korean defense minister Kim Tae-young was questioned by one politician why the South's retaliation was delayed 13 minutes and not forceful enough, to which Kim replied, "This isn't StarCraft." Kim certainly wasn't making light of the situation. If anything, he was using StarCraft, a national obsession in South Korea, to illustrate a point: the confrontation with the North is very serious and cannot be taken lightly. In the wake of the shelling, which left two South Korean civilians and two marines dead, the BBC reports that Kim was urged to step down due to his handling of the situation. Ultimately, Kim resigned, and in his letter of resignation, he took full responsibility for how the events played out. In South Korea, StarCraft games appear on television and even as a metaphor in at least one soap opera. Be sure to read about the video game echo of this recent crisis. 김태영 국방부장관의 스타크래프트 드립.JPG (동영상) and egalite_twitted [Dr.Bee and Twitter] Send an email to the author of this post at bashcraft@kotaku.com. http://kotaku.com/5700983/south-korean-politician-on-korean-crisis-this-isnt-starcraft

We dont EVER need to have any wars So a guy comes to power in X county and promptly celebrates his election by attacking every country nearby and there doesn't need to be a war? How about if North Korea shells a South Korean island, military installation, or civilian location every Friday night? Is war justified then? How about an attack every day? I'm curious to your response because even serious pacifists will acknowledge that, on very rare occasions, war is the last resort to put an end to an intolerable situation.

We dont EVER need to have any wars I'm not sure any sane person would agree with you. There's a reason why history looks very poorly upon Neville Chamberlain and a reason why people use his name as a slur for weak politicians.

If a person were to become a leader of some country and started bombing another, this could have been easily avoided, in many different ways. F.E. if people's society was different and we didnt have leaders, we were all equal this could be avoided. Now in the real world, I believe would could avoid NK attacking SK by changing our society. In my point of view their is so many faults in our society, that we are kinda screwed as of right now. Personal I think if we dont all change soon, the end is near. IMO I think that war is never justified. I would want to speak to you in real life on this topic but I will try to do my best to explain myself, now and in the future. Hey, maybe I am insane, maybe I am not depends on how one would define "insane" or "sane". We are all one in the end.

A growing group of North Korean dissidents are risking their lives to secretly film inside the repressive regime before smuggling the tapes across the Chinese border to show the outside world what is happening to their countrymen. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newsvideo/8113817/Inside-North-Korea-exclusive-footage.html (I don't quite understand the whole scene with the police officer and the upset woman tho, but that scene with the starving homeless girl really is quite horrid)
