First, credit to the original discoverer(s) of the hotkey customization functionality in the blizzard code: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=154298
I posted this in a few other threads after being PM'd today I thought I'd just create a thread to share this information.
Q: How can I more efficiently inject my larva? A: Rebind grave (~) key to towncamera and use one-hand instead of some goofy backspace 2-handed combo.
Help, I don't understand what the hell you're talking about. So here's the idea: You use the towncamera (default backspace) method to switch hatches and click the middle of your screen, then inject (V by default, X by grid). Instead of the cumbersome and hotkey-consuming method of 1queen, 1hatch for 5-9, or any other goofy way involving your hand actually coming OFF the mouse. I developed this method, which I believe to be the most efficient way (thus far) for most players to inject larva.
1) Hotkey all queens to 3 (e.g.). Rebind Towncamera to grave (~) 2) Press 3 to select queen control group. 3) ~3v(click) <--- repeat ad nauseum. If you have 3 hatches, repeat 3 times.
Using this method, all queens will simultaneously inject all hatches within something like .25 seconds.
PROS: -you didn't have to use your right hand or take your eyes off the monitor to hit the backspace button -you didn't have to take up 4-5 hotkeys for hatches -all queens being on one hotkey allows for easier control against AA harass. -feels natural with ring finger, middle finger, thumb being able to hit the 3 buttons quickly. -it's so easy a caveman could do it.
CONS: -if you expanded into bumfuck nowhere and you're down 1 queen, you may find 30 seconds later, one of your queens is migrating across the map. - Since each call of 'inject' calls the nearest queen with 25 energy, you can get a situation where two hatcheries label the 'closest queen' as the same one, and you replace its order, meaning it only injects one. fdsdfg
Q: Okay, I buy into it enough to want to try it out myself. How do I do it?
Here are five super simple steps to follow:
1) Create a new folder at (default) Documents/Starcraft II/Hotkeys
2) open notepad.
3) Paste the following: + Show Spoiler +[Settings]
[Commands] TownCamera=Grave grid users use this:+ Show Spoiler + [Settings]
[Commands] TownCamera=Grave CommandButton00=Q CommandButton01=W CommandButton02=E CommandButton03=R CommandButton04=T CommandButton05=A CommandButton06=S CommandButton07=D CommandButton08=F CommandButton09=G CommandButton10=Z CommandButton11=X CommandButton12=C CommandButton13=V CommandButton14=B WarpIn=Y
4) Save the file as "yourcustomname.sc2hotkeys" in the created Hotkeys folder.
5) Run Starcraft II, go to Menu > options > hotkeys and select "yourcustomname" from the dropdown menu.
Congratulations, you have grave (~) bound to towncamera and can now more efficiently inject your larva.
Any questions, comments and criticisms are welcome. Thanks for reading and I hope you find this as helpful as I have. May all your injections be timely!

This sounds pretty neat, I'll have to try it. I would usually have all hatches on 4 and queens 5/6/7 etc, so i could switch between bases fast and still just spam ZZZZZZZDDDDDTTTTT once to get all my hatching done.
Kudos for this method, sounds way more efficient than anything I've heard beforehand!

I use the same hotkey configuration as uberdeluxe. I also find this method to be quite interesting.
As for queens moving from base to base, maybe a simple Stop command after each Inject command would work. Ex: ( ~3v(click)s )
Thanks for this, I'll definitely be experimenting around with it later.

I love my method, I hotkey all my queens in the same hotkey and use minimap, but instead of having to super accurately hit the hatch I spam click like crazy and hope it hits the hatch and after it does, spam click the next hatch etc. The missed clicks don't hurt at all and it actually is really fast with decent accuracy.
I like that more, although I guess this system can work, too. I just feel a lot more comfortable, for instance, looking at my army moving while quickly injecting the hatches and going back to micro without missing any action.

why don't you put all your queens on one key and v-klick the hatcheries on the minimap... I play T so i don't know...
|
you didn't have to use your right hand to hit the backspace button as per the traditional way
I'm confused now. The traditional shift-backspace method doesn't involve the hand off the mouse, you're just supposed to left-hand the shift and backspace for minimum wasted actions, so which way are you describing here?

I never really used the backspace key at all. I usually bind all my hatches to 4 then my main to 5 nat to 6 3rd to 7 etc etc.If I inject I just double click 5 then box the screen and hit X and click the hatch. Then I do thesame for all my other bases
|
I always used: 4: main hatch(late game i put units here, as I dont feel the need for separate main hatch anymore as well as feeling the need for an extra control group. 5: all hatches 6-8: queenies 9-0: overseers, suiciding overlords and whatnot
The peoblem I have with this is once you get 5-6 hatches producing larva, it forces me to move my left hand across the keyboard to access all queens, so I might try the method describes in the OP.
I do not however understand the huge fuzz people cause about the whole shift v backspace method being that much faster. I only double tap 6 and then hit v, double tap 7 and inject etc. You describe the procedure as hitting ~ then 3 then v which is the same number of keys but three different ones, the strenght of the backspace method was that you would select all your queens hold shift and then just backspace + V your way trought all hatches. This makes larva inject 'remain active' as a skill so you would only have to cycle and click. Maybe this is what you meant, but I understood yout OP as separate clicks.
Chma
Edit: @mini map inject suggestions: Try it, it's kinda in-accurate once you are in fast paced action packed games. I never liked it(it doesnt automatically inejct the hatch closest to the click, you have to be kinda spot on the hatch)

I've been wanting to do this for a while but didn't see any concise explanation so I was going to wait for blizz to implement the custom keys.
Thanks for the strait-forward tutorial.

the grave on my keyboard is § (swiss keyboard) and i would like to change the whole thing to work for me... but i can't
help me please everytime i press § the chat opens

What do the pros use for this?
Surely they can't change the game folders on the computer.
|
aren't they allowed to use custom hotkeys?
however gonna ask again can anybody tell me the correct name of the § key

It's called a "section sign", but I don't know how it's referred to in terms of key name. Try "section".

I actually do that as zerg.. and I find it the easiest way. When you get the queen at the expo, put it on the same hotkey with the other queen, then wait for the larva inject to be on the same cd.. and.. bam.. "5, v click , v cilck"on minimap

This doesn't work for me atleast. The key doesn't change and I can't find the "mycustomname" sc2 hotkeys in the drop down menu. Edit:Fixd.
|
i found the backspace method the quickest and most effecient, can. not. wait. to not have to look down at the keyboard to find backspace every 40 seconds. thanks!
|
I have a the Razor Lycosa and Deathadder so I just changed my top left button (same one you said) to backspace using driver settings. I made a custom SC2 profile first that automatically overrides the default settings when I start the game. So if you have keyboard drivers, use those!
You can also bind letters or number to your mouse buttons!!! I have 0 and 9 as my mouse buttons so I can put my queens on 0 and not actually press zero, and I usually put my queens not attached to a hatch or casters or mutas to 9 so I can quickly jump to them and still have my 1-2-3 free. It's great honestly.
EDIT: Just wanted to make sure nobody understood wrong, I bind ONLY ONE THING to my mouse button. If you put a macro (like 0+v to spawn larva or something), you'll get banned. One command only!
