I have a firm grasp of both Terran and Zerg, I can play up to my level with them, and everything seems to flow naturally. However, whenever I try to get behind the wheel of the Protoss, I just end up butchering EVERYTHING. My econ sux, my army is never big enough, and I don't understand the timings at all. Having played BW for years this sudden inability to at least UNDERSTAND one of the races is a new and incredibly frustrating experience for me. I played T for most of the time after the release, and Z was my old BW race, and mechanically it's still very similar, but Protoss just feels so...unwieldy.
With that in mind, does anyone else have a race they just CANNOT play? Even if you learn builds, it just doesn't fit at all with how your brain works in relation to this game? Come on TL, I wanna know, which race do you find the hardest to offrace with?
Just so we're clear, I'm talking about SC2 (just realized I never mentioned that, sry!) Poll: Which race do you have the most trouble playing with?Zerg (36) 46% Protoss (25) 32% Terran (18) 23% 79 total votes Your vote: Which race do you have the most trouble playing with? (Vote): Terran (Vote): Protoss (Vote): Zerg

The warpgates are different, that's what I kinda had to get used to. I still use classic set up solely for 0p'ing- just couldn't play without it :/
other than that I find it pretty similar, maybe you just need more time with them idk

i learned bw with zerg so ive always had trouble playing the "normal" races because i'm so used to the way zerg plays. I can play terran a bit better than i can play toss though just because they are so ridiculously easy.

I can't play Terran =D. Actually having to check the progress bar to make units. Seriously.

Shame on me for automatically thinking that you were talking about SC2. Anyway, I used to play zerg in BW, but I still found them to be the hardest.

I cannot play Terran at all, but I feel like there should be an "all of the above" option ;____;

Blame the timings to the chronoboost
The macro to the warpgates lololol

Zerg, I wonder how I even got through the SC and BW campaigns. It´s a nightmare to me. Everything just crumbles the moment I have to build the first drone.
I played a bit of SC2 protoss and I think I might actually do better with it than with Terran if I played a little more. I was a beast with protoss back in the BW days too, storm dropping, reavers, mass expanding, I got it all. But Terran 4 lyfe man, from the fall of 97.

Protoss in SC2 just eludes me. I'm highly uncomfortable with all of the units early on, and the warp-mechanic is something I find hard to stay on top of...which is strange because I never have a problem with larvae injections with Zerg.

I just can't get used to Z. I lose all of my games to one base timing attacks. It's retarded.

hahaa
is this sc2 or bw?
in bw i could not play terran for the life of me. i love terran, but my mechanics are absolutely dreadful with terran
but in sc2, none of the races are really puzzling to me. if i had to choose, i'd say terran though 'cause i usually don't keep my resources very low.

Its so hard to know when to drone and what to make especially considering how hard it is to scout on some maps.

Terran for BW, Protoss for SC2.
I've been Zerg in BW so I feel like Zerg is definitely the easiest for me in SC2.

PvT still makes no sense to me. I've been seeing a lot more gateway centric openers from protoss which feel quite nice but it still seems like Terran is too awesome early and midgame. PvZ seems pretty straightforward and PvP is the reason I don't play protoss as my main
If you struggle with Terran then just attack constantly. If you run into a game where an attack doesn't work, watch the rep, figure out how to refine your attack and gogo again. Expo while you are shoving units down your opponents throat

Honestly the hardest part about just starting out in toss (besides warpgate mechanics) is sentry usage and zealot-stalker relationship.
Protoss aren't joking when they say that a single forcefield can mean the difference between a loss and a win. I'd say they arguably require the fastest reaction time of the 3 races.

The trouble i've had with warpgates and macro in general is that the "warp in anywhere" mechanic encourages all-in attacks.
Z and T units continue stockpiling at your base (unless rallied) while you attack whereas protoss have the urge to warp in right with the push. Then if something goes wrong and your push doesn't work, you realize that you have no defense for the counterattack.

Warp gates are just so confusing to me as a Zerg, when my Protoss friend once dropped out of a 2v2 game... I freaked out, couldn't figure out how to use hotkeys with them lol, Z -> click couple of times lost the Gateway selection for me etc. Ended up putting down 2 robo and chronoing Colossi out and more Hatcheries on my end. We won but lol I ended up complaining to him for ages about how different Protoss was...
With that said, after playing Zerg for so long I can't play P or T that well because well, I don't know when to add extra production buildings as opposed to just throwing up another Hatchery...
I have tried to do 14cc 1 marine -> mass fact Flash style in SC2 before though, pretty much failed at execution.

The way I learn a new race is I just pick 1 fairly general build that you can get away with in any matchup (for bw I did 3-5 hatch mass hydra, for sc2 you might want to try 4 gate). Then you do said build order like 80 times until you get it right. Keep adjusting it to fit your needs, but use it as a basic setup. From there you can branch out.
|
I've lost a lot of games as Zerg because I try to attack off of creep... you don't really realize how badly a few siege tanks can own you off of creep until it happens.
|
I'm so bad at zerg. Either I keep building units and teching up and find myself further or further behind, or I become an economy master and hit S ZZZZZZZZZZZ in panic when I see their blob move towards me and I just die.
