So, SC2 is out...Number of people playing BW has decreased... Nope, this is not a blog stating that BW is dying.
I'm very aware it is ALIVE.
I missed those days during day time in my time zone, there are at least 900+ people online, and at night time in my time zone, there are like 1.5k people online.
Now im seeing even a 400 people online nowadays, which is like O.O to me. Some players have move on to the newer SC2. Nope, I'm not hating on it.
So, I'm thinking of bringing new players into BW. So far, i have 3 friends i managed to pull into playing BW and we play 2~3 time a week using campus computers in the midst of overflowing dota players(IM IN SOUTH EAST ASIA after all!). They are very interested, sometimes discussing about the game with me. All of course are just some 50~80apm newbie's, so im teaching them builds and those finer things of the game. What i find very amusing, is that the dota players or just some random dudes/girls go "OMG!" or "WOW!" when they see me play, they go like "damn his fingers move non-stop" or "he's so fast" when in truth I only got 150+APM!(i dont spam as much as possible).
Last friday, since there were quite a group of people watching me play with my friends, i decided to be as fast as possible and give them a show. I was surprised later, checking my APM is about 200+ after that game of 1v2. And yes, they go like as stated before, "OMG!","That's insane!"
Just yesterday, i met some player online and played an offrace game with him. He told me that he just started 2 months ago and is at D- currently. That pretty much made my night coz its cool to see new players coming to play BW.
Actually, i dont even know the point of this blog. I guess i can conclude that starcraft brood war is still attracting people even though its graphics are considered outdated in this era. We all should try to do our part in showing people that BW is a cool game and aint just stuff for nerds. And of course bringing in more new people.

I agree, BW is not going anywhere.

Well, I don't think BW will increase anytime soon, but it will stay as it is. That's my oppinion!
|
I see quite some users on iccup who were dissapointed with sc2 and went to play the original, for their first time, instead.

Haha, quote of the day! Made me LOL.

Well, I play SC2, zerg. But the inspiration of me becoming a SC2 zerg is actually sAviOr and microing mutas in BW. I even changed races to be able to mutamicro, watched "HyungJoon becomes a progamer" show 5 times or so, watched FPVODs of sAviOr (don't say "why sAviOr, everybody knows that he's the boss).
I sometimes go on iccup to play some D- games, but after being unable to find a person to play with, I usually quit and (if I'm on mood) I play against computer, mostly it's ZvZ where I try build orders for all MUs (I sometimes go 9pool speedlings, 12pool, 12 hatch 11pool or 2/3 hatch muta or even 3 hatch spire into 5 hatch hydralurker into defilers OR EVEN CRAZY ZERG IN ZVZ). If I'm not on mood, I say "FU SC2 PLAYERS, EAT SHIT AND DIE", probably shut down computer and play SC2 when I get back on it.
The whole point in this: Add LoboMuzenza @iCCup regardless of RRR (Race-Rank-Region) issues and play whenever i go online I won't say no to a BW game.

This is not suprising. Iccup is horrible to new people. I due like how sc2 has a more enjoyable ladder experiance. I dont understand how people can play sc for that long and still want to play. Even i recall my self going 4-97 when i first played iccup. I didnt quite > but hell i dont see why people would do it for a uhhh not as popular of a game now.

I'm sure there'll be a stream of people getting back into bw as time goes by. I'm not too worried about the small niche bw scene disappearing but if proleague/osl/msl dies off that would be so tragic.

BW will never die as long as there are still fans. NEVER.
|
i heard theres a macro king in malaysia with the name stargamer/ madox
|
All games rise and fall in popularity eventually. BW isn't ever going to die per se. I mean... there are still WC2 players out there amirite?
|
Im still playing Iccup. Enjoy it a lot
|
i have been playing bw only lately and haven't touched sc2 for a long time. bw will forever be there because i think if sc2 were to meet bw's standards, it would take a really long time.

Stargamer/madox....never heard of him... Suddenly when u mention about him, something that iloveoov said once just struck me. And i feel now what he probably feels at that time as well. Haha, i must be sleepy to say that out..

I've been laddering a lot recently. I think we are halfway through the season and I've played the most games that I have ever done in one single season, and I don't intend to stop. I'm barely at C- getting my ass kicked by the Koreans but damn I <3 this game
|
Everyone will agree with the statement "Brood War is Better than SC2" but the thing is right now the popularity outside of korea has swung to SC2 and the amount of money being thrown at it has made people Stop playing the good game and start playing the new game. If money weren't involved everyone would have already switched back to BW.

I LOVE broodwar. Im a lowly 1398 D player with 16-22 winloss in my 4th season. Last season i finished 13-20 (fist season 3-13 Ugghhhh even worse).
Ive never been good or even had a good winloss but i LOVE brood war and will continue to watch Proleague, OSL and MSL as well as try to keep laddering iCCup and I hope a good number of you will too!

No game can ever truly die. Even if Blizzard stopped supporting battle.net for SC:BW, people would still run servers and play. However, it had it's time in the sun, a long time may I add and it's over.
It was a lot of fun while it lasted.
Edit: Not to say I didn't love the game. It's safe to say anyone on here adored the game, obviously.
