Casters LOOKING for interested casters/streamers for this event. This event should be fairly high level, In past DC lan's we've had great players like Gretorp, Orb, Avilo, LastShadow, Devaztayta in attendance.
Misc. There's always a number of high level players as well as a bunch of well known TL and local community members that attend these events. If you've never been to a lan before this is a great chance to get out and meet members of the local sc2 community! Or to observe some high level sc2 action in person!
Previous event thread: Cyberground #1: thread (September 25th)

Sweet! I expect this thread to not get very active till we're done with MLG DC and have our posters up and whatnot.

Awesome I'll be there again. The owner said he would set up the big screen for people to watch on next time, so that should be really nice.

C'mon Craton, no need to be bringing all that up again. Luckyfool said he'd give him a second chance if he decides to come, no need to say such things

I take it we're going to have to do Bo1 group stages again? D: Given how last LAN ran with the amount of people and time, it's totally understandable, but I wish we could figure another way out.
Also I request that, when writing the rules, consider how tiebreakers to move out of the group stage work. My recommended rule is in the spoiler, but whether you agree with it or not, a rule of some regard is necessary. I'm half-butthurt about the way my/sadistx tiebreaker ended in a bo1, but I'm not suggesting this to be an asshole- rather, in case it happens to someone else, a rule is necessary.
+ Show Spoiler +If you have a 2-man tie, you have 3 options. 1) The person who won in their group match between the two players moves on. (kind of boring. One can argue time restraints, but playing a few extra games wont destroy the schedule) 2) Play a BO3 with the previous winner between the two being 1-0 to start. (my favorite, so long as nobody was bought out of a 3-man tie to do it) 3) Play a new BO3 starting at 0-0
You cant play a new BO1, because of Player A beat Player B in groups and Player B wins the tiebreaker, they are technically 1-1. While the same arguement could be made for option #2 if it goes 1-2 (thus "technically" making it 2-2), a new BO3 will still offer a clean slate that is fair for both.
If you have a 3-man tie, tally the points of a players' beaten opponents to decide who beat the better players. Basically, if I beat 4 people, and those 4 people won a collective 3 games, I have 7 points. Someone else in the tie may have beaten 4 people who collectively won 4 games. They would have 8 points and be ahead of me. If at this point two players are tied, see the 2-man tie above. If at this point 3 players are still tied (which isnt impossible given 6-8 player groups), then I think it would call for a small bo1 round robin until someone goes 2-0. This could potentially go on forever, but unless you buy someone soju, there's really no other way.
|
In many major tournaments, in the event of a 3 way tie for a game like Quake they have all 3 guys round robin it up until someone goes 2-0. Unfortunately last time we just weren't sure of how much time we'd have for group stages, since this LAN had more people than ever before.
I'm guessing that we will think of a way to put this in place, but for example if X>Y>Z>X then we'd either have to go with what we did last time where storr dropped out, and quite frankly the tiebreaker is the tiebreaker, even if your series with sadistx ended 1-1, the plan in place before hand was the tiebreaker, not the season series.
Only problem with round robin for ties is that it could last a really really long time and theres no polite way to put it, but a result needs to come eventually since we only had so many stations for group stages.
I know of one certain rule that will be put in place in the event of a battle.net drop like last time. This is probably one that we'll have to look over also.
default is that in the event of a two man tie, tie goes to the head to head, but thats not really up for argument, thats just how it'll go, but its the case of a three way tie where time gets to be an issue, and playing 3/6/9+ more BO3's is not an option.
|
Will do my best to be there. Sign me up :D

I didn't mean that 3-man round robins should be Bo3's. Those should be Bo1, of course. In the case of a never-ending round robin, a decision would eventually have to be made, obviously, but that's not what I'm concerned about.
If its a 2-man tie, playing additional games adds predictable amount of time time that can be squeezed in to fit the schedule. You can safely assume that a bo3 won't go longer than 45 minutes. Chances are, games from another group will still be going on, anyway. Me/sadistx still had 40 minutes before brackets were supposed to start when our bo1 tiebreaker ended. There's the possibility that it could go longer, but you're much less of a risk than you would running a 3-man round robin of BO1s.
Its not fun to be the player who has to play a bo1 because people are afraid there won't be enough time. If you can fit a 3-man bo1 round robin in to the schedule/rules, you can fit a 2-man Bo3. A bo3 can go between 2-3 games, a 3-man bo1 will go 3+ games. If you can sign off on playing 3-man RR Bo1 then there's no reason to make 2-man be a bo1.
Kind of confusing myself with all these abbreviations and crap but hopefully someone gets what I'm saying. I just don't want to be eliminated on a single bo1 in a 2-man tie, that's all.

There will at least be a minimum of tiebreakers this time around instead of that head to head stuff we used to break ties last time.
If anyone has suggestions or concerns/recommendations on what to change from last time I'm all for hearing everyone out either here or in PM.

I thought we were evil dictators...damn. No my way or the highway stuff? This tournament is lame. Screw you Rob. You ruined my evil plans of SC2 domination. You will never achieve anything in life! You must not give in to the soft and useless cries of pain and suffering from those lesser mortals below us!!!
Mind if I'm in charge of the tournament again?
I promise I won't be an evil dictator.
Maybe. >>

ya u are of course in charge of the tournament torenhire. u did awesome last time.
If you want to be an evil dictator go for it, it's impossible for me, I'm too nice.
|
HAH.
You've known me how long now? Name one time you've seen me be rude or mean to anyone.
We need to find us an evil coordinator. So we can have at least SOME evil on our side. Hooktits, I'm lookin at you, man.
Edit: BTW. Everyone go bother Siraz to cast for us again. :D
