So me and my brothers are huge Castlevania fans and have played basically every game in the series. We saw this game received really bad review scores (~70%) for being a Castlevania game but heard it was the hardest game so far, so we decided to buy it for 1200 MS points.
We gathered up and were ready to play, turned it on and discovered that it didn't even have offline co-op... WTF? It's a co-op game, but you are forced to go online and play with people you don't know? Brilliant.
Whatever, we decided to join a game with five other players. There's no level system in the game, equipment is everything. So basically everyone are just boss rushing and hoping for the best items, it's ridiculous. Everything is taken from past Castlevania games and the graphics look really pixelated on a big monitor even when it's in HD.
The game so reminds me of Diablo II, except that you just let other players kill monsters and open chests and you'll automatically receive items without doing shit. There's Normal and Hard, so you can have really bad items on Hard but still be able to play there once you finish Normal and in 20 minutes you'll have some of the best gear there is.
This is a big piece of trash, don't bother buying it. What's the point anyway? There are five stages and when you have collected good gear there really is no point in playing...

There are various level systems for upgrading weapons, spells, (infact each of the 5 characters have their own system) ect... Lots of rare items and such. Its more about loot now like in diablo but its a fun game for sure. I recommend buying. There will be more downloadable characters and levels in the future.

hmmm, an online multiplayer rpg which relies on the "opening a present" gratification in gamers? doesnt seem like anything new.

My roommate has played this for about a week straight. Apparently it must be decent. It looks like a fun game if it was only on the PS3. We have 3 PS3s only 1 360.
So when I watch them play all they do is rush to the boss and kill it as fast as they can and repeat. Kinda killed it for me.

T_T Sorry to hear you did not like that game. I never played it but something tells me that Lords of Shadow will be epic and mind blowing.

In fact they are sized down, if you play Aria of Sorrow there are way more souls to collect with Soma than there is in this game. The levels are horrible, they just threw in random rooms that have completely different tilesets. The bosses are from previous games.

I mean in Diablo II I did the same, but at least there you were rewarded with XP plus there were more rare items to find. In Castlevania: HD I've already seen people with the best weapon there is.

Mind going a little more in depth about the game and what you like/dislike?? I've had an itch for some 8bit gaming and I was gonna choose either this or Mega Man.

I asked him doesn't he get bored, and he pretty much replied I have no clue why this game is so fun but I can't help it. He was one of those MMO grinders so probably in his nature. He was trying to max out all the characters. All I hear all night is...heal heal heal and some guy slashing his blade 400x a second. It's getting god awful lol.
Is the one on the PS1 as good as this one? I'm thinking about getting it from the PSN.

The thing is I think it could be fun and addictive to players who never played the Castlevania 'RPGs', or at least didn't play many of them.
But as I said, everything is recycled from the DS games. This is basically a very toned down version. There's no exploration, which is one of the most appealing things with Castlevania. There are few enemies and they're totally random, a Zombie takes as much damage as a Knight... and it's not like you meet the easiest monsters first, instead they throw every monster they have out there as soon as you walk your first few steps. That thing alone totally kills any feeling of advancement.
But it's pretty cheap anyway so if you haven't played the GBA/DS games before and got friends to play with from the beginning, sure it's probably a good game. But as a Castlevania fan I would pick Mega Man any day over this

Cool cool, thanks for the input!

I doubt HD will come to PS3 anyway, it would only if the Xbox 360 version sold well, but I have a feeling it won't...
