Well, July 26th in finally here. I know a healthy portion of the TL community already has SC2 preordered, myself included, but I'm curious who will be camping outside the doors of one of their local Future Shops, Best Buys, Gamestop etc to get that coveted special edition they weren't able to get their paws on through preorder.
Tell me your story. Has the preorder process been a nightmare because yours got mistakenly cancelled? As Husky said on his Facebook page, are you prepared to be in the obituary, or possibly featured on Dr. Phil because you played the game for several days on end? Finally, out of curiosity, who else is going to be camping the doors of the Medicine Hat, Alberta Future Shop with me? I'd like to know if there are any other TL junkies(or newcomers!) hangin' out tonight.
Glhf gg no re. It's almost here.

I didn't really think I would have to do hardcore door camping. Usually something like 2-3 hours feels like enough (living in alaska so pretty low population leads to less people waiting for this kind of stuff).
However I noticed some people standing around for like an hour at the wal-mart I was going to buy sc2 from. I'm starting to get a little worried that I'll have to do a lot more door camping than I would have liked to do.
I am going back today to pick up a couple things and if it looks like I have to.. I will wait all day to make sure I get my game.

I was going to go to the midnight release (which is 43 minutes away from right now) but I have freaking class tomorrow at 10am and an important function to attend.
RAGE!!!!!

I didn't plan on preordering SC2, but then did it on impulse a month ago. I'm currently living in Connecticut and in two weeks will drive 900 miles back home to Chicago. Then, spend half the week there and half the week in Michigan with friends/girlfriend. After the week is up drive another 900 miles to Baton Rouge to start grad school. I figured I didn't have the time.
When I look at it compared to my priorities I don't have enough time to get competitive in the SC2 ladder. I will, however, play the campaign to death and ladder enough to learn a few strategies and start to form my own. I'm D+ in iccup (zerg), so it's not like I'll be starting completely from RTS scratch. Hopefully I can ladder a few hours a day after school kicks into gear.
I won't be camping out for the midnight release. This is partly because I have work at 7:30am, and partly becasue I don't own a car. The nearest gamestop is five miles away, but when I impulsively preordered I did it at a mall that's almost 8 miles away. Southeast Connecticut is a giant valley; the trip there is mostly uphill (takes me about an hour) while the trip back has the two steepest hills to climb (takes about 45 minutes). I'll be doing this rain or shine - come hell or high water I'm getting this game on Tuesday!
On a funny note, this particular mall has three gamestops. It's not a very big mall, so you're never more than a two minute walk from a gamestop. Since there are so many gamestops they aren't offering a midnight release since not one of the stores got enough preorders to qualify (though altogether they did).
My story ends on a bit of a somber note. I finally got around to checking my computer specs and realized I can't even play the game yet. I'm gaining computer literacy, but instead of learning to build my own PC last summer I bought one from a small computer store. I highly recommend this since the prices are really cheap, but it makes upgrading your system a nightmare. I had no knowledge of motherboards and video cards until Friday. I needed to learn how to reasearch the specs of the motherboard, find the owners manual, determine where to put the video card, which kind of slot I have, what it's compatible with, the difference between good and bad video cards, where to buy them, how to safely install them, and then finding a good price. On top of all I also need a RAM upgrade, so I needed to research the slots, venues, and prices. It took about 5 stressful hours, opening my computer up three times, and winning an ebay auction to square everything away. The RAM arrives Wednesday. I might get the video card before that, but it's going standard mail and shipped Saturday. Nevertheless, I'm spending the weekend playing SC2!
TL;DR - I preordered SC2 on impulse a month ago, even though I can't play it seriously until September (at least). I have to bike a very hilly 8 mile trip to the local mall to pick up the game. I also found out Friday I needed to upgrade my system to play the game. After many stressful hours I ordered some RAM and a video card from the internet, but they won't arrive until Wednesday.

I've got my pre-order. I'm going to gamestop tonight at 8, and I shall wait.
|
I am really fucking scared something will go wrong and ill get my copy too late :p
|
I could go to the midnight release, but ehhhh I've got school and work. And I don't think any of my friends preorderd from the same gamestop I did.
|
Ill be showing up around 10 P.M to wait for mine.
|
Going at around 10 PM because that is when the line officially starts at my GameStop. Apparently, this GameStop is going to hand out tickets after you buy your game so that when it hits midnight you can just give your ticket for a copy. Haven't heard about any goodies they will be giving out though.

Il be waiting outside my local EB Games for an 30-60 minutes. Not that dedicated, but i want to get to the campaign asap

I've never been to one of these "wait in line late at night or early in the morning for something" events and can't convince anyone to take me since I myself don't necessarily need to go but would love to see pictures of people waiting in line for this game. Could anyone going maybe bring a camera with them please?? =D

So, new development lol. I was moseying around the mall, and went into EB Games, like usual. This girl's working that's had a thing for me for, oh, probably 5 years(When we got out of high school). I talked to her for a bit, and told her I'd be going to camp the doors at Future Shop, and she said they sold out from their preorder... I am like o.O "What?!" And she explains that they sold all their special edition WoL games through preorder and had zero left, but she could save the day and hold one for me at 8am when the mall(And EB) opens. I had to think about it, because I'd have to call in sick to work just to get there to get it. Pissed off at my twin brother's girlfriend, who works the midnight launch at Future Shop, I decide to go have a chat with her and find out wtf was going on, and it's a good thing that girl is at EB to be a superhero. Why would they sell all of them at preorder? Why would my brother's girlfriend tell me they would have them, just to make me camp in line all night for nothing?
They didn't. In fact, they have a pallet of them available at 12:01, as was expected. The girl at EB literally just told me a bold faced lie. Now I'm not saying that she did it just to try to look like the amazing person, but the friend I am with is fairly confident that she did it just so she can sit on my weiner. Yup. Classy. So I'll be there, outside Future Shop in 1 1/2 hours time to wait for 6 hours. Given how many copies they have, I know it's not necessary, but I wanna be first in line.

Sorry for the bump, but this story just took an epic turn for the worse...
Monday - the new gfx card came in! I'm excited, so I put it in right away, boot up the computer, see that it's all working ok, go to login and find my keyboard isn't working. After an entire night of trying to figure wtf happened, a solution turned itself up - either the power supply is bad, or I killed the motherboard. My powersupply, though rated at 450W, only produces 264W (12V * 22A), making it a better 300W supply (translation - not enough power = weird shit happening, like my keyboard not working). So now I'm replacing the power supply to what it's supposed to be, and the motherboard since I most likely fried it. Fortunately the old board was an obsolete piece of crap to begin with, so I got a good deal on a motherboard/cpu combo off newegg (cpu is slightly better and WAY more energy efficient than the old one).
Sorry for the technical rant...but yesterday I did the bike trip and bought the game. And now it's sitting in the corner of my house...waiting. I'm also avoiding TL and youtube like the plague to avoid campaign spoilers...
