I have just sent my payment to incontrol and will soon be enjoying his tutelage I have got 2 months worth of lessons so far and depending on how it goes willing to get more. Also I will most likely get a lesson or 2 from LZ sometime in the future because I sent a email to him and it never got sent and in my blog I wrote that I sent it to him and never heard back. This will be sometime in the future though but for now I am happy to have incontrol beat up on me for a while.
Other news I went 4-1 in my placement matches my only loss was a dumb one where for some dumb reason I decided to do a forge fast expand against random before scouting and found out it was protoss. Thus he saw what I was doing fast teched and had 3 void rays in my base before my 2 were getting ready to pop and once my popped he was right over my stargates and was fully charged. But o well I haven't played that much due to me not feeling so well but I am starting to feel better now and am logging in right after I finish this up.
PS. No I wont tell you what I paid, You can see the pricing options at gosucoaching.com.

What League are you in? What do you mean 2 months worth of lessons? Why do you feel you need a coach?
|
Right now Im in gold, before the beta phase one ended I was in platinum. And have been in diamond before. I would see myself as a platinum player right now and I think I need a coach to improve my game to a upper tier and reach my potential in the game. When I say 2 months I bought lessons for 2hrs a week for 10 weeks.

InControl is pretty good, so I hope he's worth the investment and gets you well into Diamond ^^

If you want a practice partner, I play zerg in diamond. Dance.685
Maybe I can learn something from your private coachings. :D

niceeee hope to hear your progress! update your blog or something. maybe even post some advice that you thought was helpful xDD

Iwas thinking about getting InControl as a coach. Update your blog telling us how it is going. Good luck
|
glhf, don't get lazy practicing on your own cause you have a coach and you'll be kickin ass in no time~

It's good you don't mention specifics about pricing ... or else I foresee a flood of flaming/complaints.
Can you tell us more details on how you've specifically improved?

From someone who's paid for Counter-Strike lessons years ago, and from someone who's been in the SC:BW for over a decade I think SC2 lessons are a waste of money. Thats what practice partners are for and the massive amounts of online resources available to you. There are hundreds of videos commentated by fairly knowledgeable people as well as replays where you can learn builds. Constructive thinking on your part and friends made through practice partners will teach you everything you need to know and nothing incontrol wouldnt teach you.
I'm not bashing incontrol or any of those people who 'sell' their services, but you have to think about it from the global perspective. They arent even good? From a SC:BW point of view they might be considered good to you or other people, but from a global perspective? They were ranked like 10,000th place. As soon as the global community gets ahold of SC2 he will still be the guy who was good for a white guy once and was in a reality show b/c of it.
I hope you enjoy your lessons, I'd recommend recording your vent/skype conversations for studying and going back over again the lessons (for your own personal use ofc, as only you paid for it). Go in with an open mind and try to understand WHY he's having you do specific things, understanding the why's and the flow of the game will greatly enhance your overall performance. gl to you

oh wow i only recall incontrol providing lessons for bw, and that was awhile back update us on how it goes

Hmm well I hope it goes well for you. I think it may seem strange to many people to pay for lessons on how to play your hobby, but people do it for sports all the time. If it decreases your learning curve, why not? Incontrol may not be a pro-gamer, but as long as he's better than you are, and a good teacher, he can help you a lot. Whether it's worth it really just depends on how much money you have and how 'teachable' you are. If you have a good job and plenty of money and are a naturally teachable person and you get more enjoyment out of playing at a higher level then I think coaching is a perfectly fine investment of your money.
I train in MMA mostly as a hobby and it would be ridiculous of me to say 'What do I need a coach for? I can watch UFC and Strikeforce and train on my own and with my friends for free all I want so why should I 'waste' money on coaches?'
Same thing with rich people who pay for golf lessons or tennis lessons... sure you might be able to learn on your own or with your friends but if you enjoy playing at a higher level more and you make a lot of money, then you probably have more money to burn than time, so it's not a question of 'why waste money on a coach?' and it's more a question of 'why waste time learning slowly by myself?'.

I couldn't have put it better myself, anyways I will keep all of you updated on my progress and how I end up doing, and hopefully one day I can put myself in the same league as incontrol and the gosu people and even all of the other great players out there.

I think the problem people have with the gosucoaching, is the fact that everyone blogs about it all the time. No offense, but these thread always turn into a debate and its rather old.

I am enthused to work with you as well
And as Charlie said, these threads do usually turn into a debate. You of course didn't instigate this but you'd be better off keeping your experience to 1 blog and updating so as to consolidate the amount of content on this subject.. people get touchy when you "advertise" too much for the coaching.
That said it is nice to see some voices of support in here as well. Frankly the same debate happens each time. Someone says "they aren't pro and you can get that info for free" and then someone says "people pay for golf lessons with non pros.. it's their money who cares if they want to spend it on a hobby?"
Bottom line is I think it is not for everyone, but clearly it is for some. By now it should be obvious I am not scamming people.. please support our community and something EVERYONE (who has worked with the coaches) has enjoyed thus far. You don't HAVE to pay me for coaching.. so don't hate plz

Didn't want or mean to start a debate, just wanted to update the people who have read and enjoyed reading about me and my SC2 career up to date and that I actually purchased a coach. I will be more careful in the future.
