Now, the night itself was fun and plenty of mildly funny stories came to, but the highlight of all my family get togethers is when our fathers/mothers also begin to tip them back and share stories from years past. The stories that I can remember are: My father's first time being drunk, my uncle's drunken adventures in Canada, an uncle and an aunt driving up for my parent's wedding a week early, my father's first time seeing Led Zeppelin in concert, an uncle's first week at bootcamp after being drafted, and an aunts first evening spent with my grandma. There were a bunch of others that escape me at the moment but they were all fantastic.
The younger generation of course had our fair share that we regaled our own parents and relatives with without fear of repercussion. And that's why I love my family so much. Anytime we can an excuse to get together and celebrate, even the smallest thing, everybody has a great time (even without booze).
So, what do you love about get togethers with your family? Do you have a crazy Uncle Larry who gets drunk and always busts a move on the dance floor? Have a black sheep who keeps getting caught doing coke in the bathroom? Perhaps a cousin who works for the CIA and can teach all the kiddies how to kill somebody with their thumb?
