So before February, I did not have my license so instead of going to a gym to run, I would always run in my neighborhood. More specifically, a route in my neighborhood. I estimate it to be just over a mile in length (there and back). I would always time myself and see how long it took me to finish it. After months, I could never break 8:30, my goal.
Then I got my license, tada! And I got a gym membership. I stopped running that route in my neighborhood cuz now I could run on treadmills. My goal was somewhat forgotten. However, after every workout, I would always run on the treadmill for atleast a mile, usually a mile and a half if I wasn't too tired.
4 months later (today), I randomly decided to run that route in my neighborhood.
Clocked in at 7:27. Shaved over a minute of my previous time.
:DDDDDD

That's awesome, man. I have a gym membership but they closed the one closest to me a bit back and the nearest is quite far out. I really need to exercise as I'm out of shape, but unable to run due to a gimp knee. I just got my last month and am currently researching used cars; I'll probably buy one within the next 2-3 weeks and the first goal on my agenda is to start hitting up the gym again.

Congrats dude! Seeing huge improvements like that is always so much fun and really helps make the running feel worth your time. If you wanna see some really nice improvements try running for like 20 to 30 minutes at a time. I'll bet you break 6:30 in no time.
Also:
I stopped running that route in my neighborhood cuz now I could run on treadmills.
There is something seriously amiss with this statement. You really prefer to run on a treadmill over running outside?

It was probably because it was more convenient to work out and run right after than split the running + lifting
gj !

How can you prefer to run on a treadmill? Those things were invented by the devil himself to make people hate running. In the winter I have to use the emasculating elliptical because treadmills are so awful. Regardless, congrats on the pr!

okay i'm not being mean here, just speculating.
7:30 is pretty slow if you're only running one mile, which is a better unit for measuring where you are in your athleticism, so you should get your parents to help you measure the distance
just mark your odometer in your car, then drive the route (assuming its car accessible) to see how long it is
i'm guessing its longer than one mile and you actually are faster than you think ^_^

I was stuck with treadmill running recently on a business trip in the middle of ass-nowhere, and I improved my five-mile time by three minutes. Treadmills help you with a consistent stride and force you to run straight (I used to drift laterally much more than I do now), increasing your energy-to-result gains.
also, congrats OP :D

Or if you have a bike, measure it with a bike .

Or you could use a phone with GPS next time when you run the route.
Or even draw the route in googlemaps/earth!
